History: We know that Saionji was friends with Touga early on. They rode bikes together, practiced Kendo, and explored their neighborhood as children. It was during this time that they first met Utena, though they were unsure later if it was the same girl. It was meeting this hopeless child that stirred part of Saionji's desire from something perfect and eternal.
Beyond this, we know only a little cannon about his past. Obviously, he continued to best Touga (and mostly fell to second place) over the years. He became captain of the Kendo team and beat "someone" in a duel for Anthy, whom he possessed for some time from the feel of when the series starts.
non-canon: Saionji's father was a very strict man. He insisted on perfection from himself... and from his family. Saionji worked hard to meet his father's expectations in school and kendo. Saionji also took traditional classes in calligraphy and ikebana (Flower arranging), the elder keeping his son versed in traditional Japanese traditions. The consequences for falling sort in the Kyiouchi household were severe.
Saionji's mother was quite the perfect, demure housewife and maternal figure. She was quiet, slight of frame, and bent to her husbands will.
When his mother died, Saionji requested that he attend a boarding school with high reputation. Touga was going to attend and had told Saionji all about it. Both boys were eager to leave home mostly for their own reasons, and their parents being of good standing and money, found themselves in classs together once again. Touga stayed in a family home near campus while Saionji was set up in a fine town home dorm.
Saionji surpassed his classmates with his will, determination, and self discipline. It wasn't long before he was heading up projects, making top (or near top) marks, and it was only natural for him to make Vice President and Kendo Captain. He continued to struggle for perfection and to surpass Touga. But, even as he prepared to finish school, he receive reprimanding letters from his father.
Personality: Based on his history, its no surprise that Saionji is a perfectionist. He also has a short temper, especially when things don't go as planned. But, he is very self disciplined and, when set with a project, is determined and thorough. While he might be labeled a "pretty boy," he is far from the playboy that Touga is, prefering the traditional roles and long courtships. Though, he has the urge now and then.
Saionji spends his days in a few classes, having completed almost all his course work early. He is not the genius Miki is, just hard working and overly ambitious. He trained often in the dojo for Kendo competitions. After loosing his position as Vice President, he's been working on a new plan of action.
