That was then: The year was 2012, and industry was booming. Technology was at a all time high, and war seemed to subside for a moment. Everything was happy. Everyone was happy. Success was attained with the cloning of animals, and now they even could clone crops! Food was abundant, and once poverty area's where fed and made wholesome once more.
Crime was at a all time low, and bridges between countries where made. In a sense it was world peace...
By 2018
A corrupt government won the trust of the biggest global leader of the world, funding was provided for what they thought was safe engineering. But what was below the surface was... things unheard of, experiments not fit for human or animal testing, hybrids created between both human and animal. Other words... Post apocalypse was brought upon the Earth.
Just when everything seemed perfect, it was released, a bio weapon created by the refinery company, the most trusted company in the world. We trusted them with our water, with our electricity, they where a capital name in our world. But it wasn't enough, world dominance wasn't enough. They wanted more. They wanted enslavement. They wanted all the other industries to be... obsolete. So they released RN-400, and it seemed to work. Companies where signing over left and right. But then the weapon stopped responding. And before we knew it, released a toxic radiation upon the earth. Then it exploded in a violent ray of light.. Causing all our satellites to stop working..
It wiped out most of civilization as we knew it. Technology was no more. Everything we knew, was gone... So what do we do?
This is now:
We have started over, a bio dome was put over a few major cities, keeping most of the radiation out. Keeping a few chosen people safe from the harmful toxins. It is now April 2028, the domes have been in place for a little over 10 years. According the science back then, it took 10 years for the radiation to settle so it wasn't harmful to us.
In 2 months, the domes will be removed, and we will be let free.. One thing. We have no resources anymore. We have to start over from the beginning of time.
Sure we have a few things here and there, things that where able to be salvaged, such as stoves, and appliances of the sort. But these items are antique now. And seldom work. Now we wait, wait for the domes timers to be lifted. No technicians anymore. But what waits on the outside? What creature was released from the Refineries walls when the building was destroyed? And how many civilizations where saved? Sure the population has decreased about 50% of what it use to be, but now what awaits beyond our protective glass?

Tess sighed as she looked at the domed sky. She could see the sun, but not feel it's warming heat, she could watch the clouds, but not feel the breeze on her skin. She was born here, she should love it, it being home.. But what teenager really did like their home place?
She sighed, moving her eyes from the domed ceiling to the vented air unit. It looked like small black dots, but from the constant meetings the town had, she knew what it was for. It filtered the air from outside, removed any radiation from it, made it pure once more, then released it inside the dome, for the perfect climate control community. But time was running out, and the domes timer would stop, making the ceiling blocking her world from the real world disappear.. Forever.
The thought excited the teenager, made her smile. The idea of being free from this dictation, caused her heart to flutter. She began to wave her hand in the air, imagining what it would feel like to lay on real grass, to feel the sun on her face, to feel the breeze through her finger tips. But as of now, all that action did was remind her of the time. She quickly jumped up from her spot on the ground, and began to make her way home. It was time for her to check on her mother. She would have to force feed her, bath her, and even dress her. It was a saddening job, but they couldn't afford the prices of doctors and nurses now. So when her mother did see a doctor it was rare. Only when needed.

Caleb walked around the plaza solemnly, his eyes never leaving the cracks in the manufactured tile of the pathway. It was odd to him to think that they would soon be lifting the large dome that surrounded his sheltered home; it would be...different. Yes, different was the word for it. He had never been given the opportunity to venture into the wilderness of the real world. He had no idea of what his real home was like..."Soon." Caleb reassured himself, nodding at the empty space beside him, before continuing his path down the plaza.

Tess sighed as she slowed her pace. What would it hurt if she slowed down? Her mother wasn't getting any better, nor was she getting worse. Her little mind began to wonder as she walked, wondering about what would be done when the dome would be lifted. How would she react, what would she do, what foreign lands would she find. All the basic questions for a girl her age.
She began to cut through the plaza, still being lost in thoughts, her head in the clouds. The teenager took a seat on the bench, watching the fowls of the air fly over head of the dome. To be honest, it was often she saw birds flying over the dome, most the time they stayed away from here. She even wondered about the other cities she heard about, just like hers.. Trapped under the domes.

Caleb walked further down the path, his eyes still entranced in the marking along the tiles, leading him to an all too familiar circular platform: the center of the plaza. There was a fountain, made and chisled from a smooth, concrete-like stone. Almost pretty. Further down the cicrcle was a row of benches, each empty, but one. Who could that be? Interested, Caleb made his way over slowly, studying the dark haired girl from afar.

Tess let out a sigh as she watched the sunset through the glass, her brown eyes longing to be able to feel it's heat, to know what it felt like to be too hot. Too cold, she never knew the outside world. All she knew was the domes. She was brought here when she was a little girl, so little her first memories where made here. It was a little frightening to think the world she knew was soon to change.
Her fingers idly played with her candy cane striped sweater. She released another sigh, she didn't want to go home, she couldn't stand the job she had to do. Having to take care of her mother like some sort of infant, it usually didn't get to her, but here lately, she had been regretting being the only child.
The fourteen year old quickly pulled a sketch book out of the bag slung over her shoulder, smiling as she began to sketch the birds over the dome, only she left the shimmering glass of the dome out of the picture, giving her the illusion of what it would of looked like without the glass. She sighed, looking at her drawing, then the crystal sky once more.
"less then two months too go... And everything changes.. The thing is, are we ready for it?" she asked to herself, barely even noticing the boy that walked her way.

.:Caleb Kardashian:.
Caleb sighed in contentment; He was really going to be Free. It was a dream come true. Although, his original home was lost in rubble and settling radiation. But he could find somewhere else. I wonder what mom and dad would think... but he quickly shoved the thought from his mind, as memories began to flood his head, making hime feel anxious. But, just his luck, he didn't have any way of releasing that tension; his skates were at home.
Instead, he continued down the short plaza toward the lone girl on the bench; Why does she look so alone? He felt bad for her. He felt bad for himself. But, alas, he still couldn't do anything to help. Only hope for the future...
Caleb came up to the bench now, the younger girl - she looked to be at least two or three years younger than himself - had her nose in a beautiful drawing. Dark etched lines outlined graceful birds, and brilliant blue sky, without a large confining dome keeping them out. Pretty... Caleb shook his head a moment, clearing his throat to get her attention. "I like your drawing." he nodded toward the sketchbook, his hands finding his pockets as he spoke; he didn't want to freak her out by sitting down just yet. So he smiled.
"I take it you're looking forward to 'They Day' as well, then?" People were calling it 'The Day' for many reasons. the most simple, was because they didn't know what to call 'It'. Many individuals had no idea what lay ahead past their protective barriers; what civilizations survived, what animals still existed, what kinds of effects the radiation had on the Earth...or on living organisms. In truth, they didn't yet know if it were a good event or bad event. All they knew was that they wanted out... [[ Sorry for the flimsy responses the other night. I was on the phone, and not able to think properly. But from now on, my posts should be pretty and lengthy. ]]

Tess smiled as she made each stroke, even though she had never had the opportunity at a decent art class, she taught herself fairly well. Or at least that is what the girl thought.
She was lost in her own work, she didn't even notice when the boy stood near or, that only caused her to jump when he spoke. Quickly she looked up at the boy, shocked to see someone who was actually remotely close to her age. He did look a few years older, but he didn't look too old not to talk to. Her mother always told her not to speak to strange men, did it count if it was a strange boy? Quickly she erased the thought from her head.
"Thank you.. And yes.. I do look forward to the day, when the dome is gone. But it is a little scary, not knowing what waits out there, and what if the radiation didn't go away? Do we go back in the dome, from my history lessons, once you breath that stuff in... You might as well count your days." realizing she was babbling, her face quickly faded to crimson she hated when she got into a conversation, she found it hard to shut up.. "I'm sorry.." she muttered "Would you like to sit down?" Tess offered to the seat next to her with her gloved hand, a smile shown in her eyes but not her mouth.
Time is short, mother will be needing me soon.. she thought grimly for a second, but right now.. She had to focus on Tess. Her mother would live to see the dome lifted, so Tess had to make friends, or risk going out into the world all alone. (That is completely understandable. While long ones are more fun to read, short ones help as well... by the way.. I recognize your name before, would you perhaps be in Gems? I know I've read some of your posts before..)

Caleb smiled in return, her 'babbling' fairly cute for someone of her size, and physical looks. "I really don't mind." he admitted, moving toward the bench, where her hand patted an empty seat. He admired her drawing from beside her, despite the obvious spots where it lacked real knowledge. He wasn't experienced in art to say the least, but he knew what to look for. Something just as good, and with her attributes only meant that she must not have been properly taught at a school. But regardless, the drawing still sparked hope in his eyes with it's simplistic beauty. If only everything were so simple... his thoughts jarred in his mind, his concentration altered when he was brought back to reality by the soft murmuring of the spouting fountain.
He looked back at the girl. Her eyes were full of friendly excitement; she must have wanted this as much as himself. "It is okay to be curious, you know." he smiled, looking back at the fountain before continuing. "About what's out there. Will we survive. Is this all a waste..."? his eyes traveled to the top of the dome, and it's feign warmth. He looked back at the younger girl then, "So don't think that it's just some fickle rant of yours; we all have the same questions." he smiled then, one that touched his eyes, making them twinkle in the dimming light.[[ Thanks for the support then. And yes, I just joined Gems, shortly before your guild. Trying to find some active RolePlays. That's the only reason I stay with Gaia. ]]

The small girl smiled as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. it was hard to believe a boy was actually talking to her, and he wasn't sounding dumb. She then gave him her attention, respectfully as he spoke. Her big brown eyes shining from happiness, which was a little strange most would think. Because she didn't really have alot to be happy about, her father is dead, her mother soon to be in the ground as well, and she was only fourteen after all..
"I was sorry for rambling on. I do that when I am nervous. I don't know why.. I guess it's a stupid attempt to impress someone new." she sighed as she looked back up at the domed ceiling. It was scary to think on what waited on the outside. So many things could happen, so many things where possible. Plus, the books they had back then, about strange creatures. What if they where real? What if, like many other things, they just turned into fable because of time? Way to keep your mind on track, Tess..
Realizing that she was being rude, and not introduced herself. The girl quickly put her sketch book away, offering her hand to the blond boy who now sat beside her. "I'm Tess.. By the way. " a giggle came pass her lips as her brown eyes met his, matching the smile that rested on her face.
