As Rex lead Gus back towards the building he'd gotten him from the were man fervently hoped his child could make it through the up coming meeting without getting attached to anything. Coming face to face with a biological parent was probably going to be an emotional thing for Gus and that usually lead to him associating something nearby with that moment and desperately needing to have it.
Other than that though Rex had to admit that Gus has been a good kid and despite earlier reservation he hadn't regretted adopting him at all.
"Do you think Miss Apoxi will notice I'm taller?" the toddler asked. It was only an inch but he was very proud of that inch.

"Of course she will." Came the calm voice of Kayen Miyo as they entered the building. "Welcome back, young one."
Her voice was gentle, both because she was addressing a child and because she was rather fond of him as well. He'd been one of the ones she and Apoxi had gotten a tad attached to before they were sent to a home. "You've come for your appointment then?"

Gus grinned and waves both his hands and finned tail at the visor wearing woman. "Miss Kayen!" The boy stood on the tips of his clawed feet quivering with excitement, it was so good to see her again and now when had a room outside to go back to later.
Rex nodded " Yes, as you can see Gus is very happy about it for multiple reasons." Rex himself was unsure of how it would all go but he understood the reasoning behind it.

Kayen pat his head lightly before smiling. "Miss Blighto is awaiting you with Hazij and Imai in another room." she told them with a nod. "Shall I show you the way?"

Gus nodded " Yes please Miss Kayen." The boy's dark eyes filled with excitement both from the pat and the chance to go and meet the other dragons and see Miss Apoxi again.

The meeting room was very very large with a look like a huge stony cave. The minute Apoxi, with her huge hair and glasses, was dwarfed even more by the pair of huge dragons behind her.
One was black as night, with dark eyes and a cold demeanor, looking anywhere but the child. The second was large and her scales had turned gray almost all over, but she had bright, soft blue eyes and seemed so much more warm and friendly. Leaning down, the female - you could tell for she had three horns instead of the two he had - smiled and rested her head near the doorway - which it was easily bigger than.
Kayen presented Gus and Rex to them. "This is Ahazijaar and his mother, the Great Lady Imai. And you know Miss Blighto."

Gus waved a little to Miss Apoxi while staring wide eyed at at the huge figures occupying most of the room. "Why do you have more horns?" He asked of the great lady. Not that he needed or had room for another but the boy was curious, it was perhaps one of the greatest parts of Gus's nature.
Rex on the other hand was more focused on the grumpy looking male, he didn't look pleasant to speak with but did little to intimidate the werewolf. After all Rex assumed the staff here could prevent him from being harmed by the various beings they used. "Do you get emotionally attached to objects?" he asked trying to catch the dragon's dark eyes.

Imai laughed in her fashion before smiling down at Gus. "Because, little one, I am female. And females of our kind grow more horns." she said, as if that were the most obvious reasoning for anything ever.
Hazij turned one eye on him slowly. "What?" he hissed, not entirely getting Rex's meaning but trying to seem intimidating even when he asked.

Gus nodded slowly as he absorbed the information. The boy wrapped his tail around his legs and rested the fin on his feet before he spoke again. " Do you have any girls?" The toddler imagined it would be very sad to not have anyone like you and had decided that if he ever grew up he would have boys becuase he was one.
Even as he spoke to the great lady though Gus kept sneaking glances at the other dragon in the room. He'd had question for him and then he;d gotten here and forgotten them all.
Rex frowned though stood his ground, there was no need for hostility over a simple question. "When you collect items do they all have special meanings to you?" he clarified his earlier question than gestures towards Gus. "Gus gets emotionally attached to his things and then I can't even pry spoons away from him becuase they remind him of his first pudding." Rex sighed having assumed that dragon or not the behavior was unhealthy.

Imai shook her head sadly, "No, no daughters. Just one very grouchy son." she said, looking affectionately over at Hazij, which was strange to see on a big scaly dragon. "But I have grandchildren now so that's okay."
Hazij looked at him oddly. "No? I keep things because they are mine. There are no memories attached."
Apoxi snickered a little behind her hand at the comment about the first pudding. "He's got one of my earrings because of that." she told Rex in a half laughing whisper, "and I know which parent he gets that trait from."

Gus smiled before turning to look at the large black dragon Rex had been talking too. Wiggling his toes Gus tapped his nails against the floor of them room and fidgeted a it uncertainly before saying his piece. " But why do you want stuff then?" Oh certainly Gus wanted things all the time had a deep need to collect even the most obscure objects but the toddler also had a need to make certain each item had a connection. Everything had to hold a special memory or emotion for him and this each was treasured and displayed in his room as if it were the worlds most important artifact. The concept of having things 'just becuase' was very odd.
"Perhaps we should see that one later then," Rex replied softly. Hopefully they could reason with Gus before he became attached to something he simply couldn't have.

"Because I like things." Hazij groused awkwardly, feeling hedged in because of these questions and backing away a bit to curl up. Imai snorted and shook her head. "It is a status symbol among our kind, having a larger treasure hoard than one's neighbors means you are richer and more powerful than they are. The older you and your collection are, and particularly the more vast they are, the more respected and feared you are by others of your kind."
"It also makes you subject to more thieves." Hazij grumped at his mother.
"Yes, but the more thieves you catch and kill the more cunning you are believed. Status is very important among our kind. There are other ways to gain status and respect, of course - I am a broodmother and gain much more respect for that than for any treasure hoarding or collecting. I am given gifts rather than having to pillage and steal." She explained proudly, puffing up in the chest a bit as she spoke.

Gus looked thoughtful for a moment, ignoring Hazij's annoyance and turning his attention back to Imai. "You get stuff for being a mother?" It seemed like being female was far more interesting, more horns and you got stuff if you had a baby.
Still something the other dragon had said stuck in his head and Gus's gaze shifted nervously to look at him again. "How do you stop thieves?" Gus didn't care about status or power but he did care about his things very much.
Rex wanted to reassure the boy that their home was safe, that nothing could be stolen from it. The words were lodged in the cop's throat though, his own daughter had been stolen and while it was unlikely such a thing would happen again he could not bring himself to lie to Gus even to ease the boy's fears.

Imai nodded. "A broodmother to be exact. Regular dragon mothers have a clutch of eggs, raise their young and return to their lives. A broodmother does not have one mate but many, and lays many eggs in her lifetime, that hatch into dragons that are raised to do great things. You must come from a very important bloodline to become a broodmother. Some more noble blooded males are considered to be very great and get gifts as well, but a broodmother is considered quite an honorable position." she answered.
Hazij rolled his eyes. "You smash them - kill them! You are a drago-!" he was cut off by a look from his mother and settled down again.
"You keep your treasure in very secure places, lock it up and keep spells around to keep others out. If they do get in, then you are allowed to defend yourself, though now and then they do make off with something and then you have to go and get it back from them." Imai explained, her voice strong as she told him these things, "There's a reason for keeping spells that identify thieves. Though, unless you have been boasting of having treasure or let unsavory characters into your hoarde, young dragons are not often thieved unless their whole home cave is raided."

Gus shifted noticeably closer to Imai, he didn't think Hazij liked him very much. " I don't have any spells" he whispered very softly hoping the big black dragon wouldn't here. Whatever brave dragon blood might flow through Gus' veins it clearly wasn't enough to keep him from feeling insecure around Hazij. Gus had always liked being liked and he didn't understand why the other had to be mad just becuase he didn't know something. His shoulders slumped and tail dragged in the floor as he waited for a response from the more patient dragon.
