Physical Attributes
Chryssalids, commonly dubbed “Squids,” are a four armed, four legged species residing in the outer rim of the galaxy. They are vaguely humanoid with an extra pair of arms and legs, as well as four eyes. One of their most distinguishing features is the fact that they have no skeletal system and their extremities are more tentacle-like. The toughest part of their body is the cartelege forming the skull. It is less strong than bone, but flexable, alowing it to take about as much hits as a normal skull would. Their body is almost entirely muscle, like a tongue, and they are hunched up almost perpetually because of this. For them it is just as easy to have bad posture as not, seeing as they have no bones to rely on either way. Their arms have suckers, but the amount lessens the closer they get to the body. Their whole body is covered in a fire-retardant slime; unfortunately for them it will not last long under continued flame, but it prevents instant vaporization. Their arms and leg tentacles split into three “fingers” each, all are dexterous and just as nimble as a human’s, if not more. Around the mouth area, Chryssalids have many smaller tentacles, hanging like a beard. Chryssalids have little color variation, mostly in various and blotch shades of green, although some strains have evolved into a grayish pattern. (More on this later)
Most Chryssalids are sterile, but a select few (later) have stingers on the ends of their facial tentacles, used for infesting/laying eggs. the eggs spend their larva stage outside of the parent’s body, instead residing in a large quantity of biomass, be it a sludge pool created for this purpose, a corpse, or, preferably, a live creature. While in this stage the larva emit an anesthetic so that their host has no warning of the creature eating them from the inside. Once in the body, the larvae will be very hard to extricate, and will kill it’s host if an attempt to remove it is made. When they receive a signal from a Queen (see Government) they immediately begin developing, and in two months will kill their host and a fully capable Chryssalid, if not full sized, will burst out a few days later. Occasionally, it is the case that the host dies prematurely, but it is with great peace, and no hint of the interior turmoil.
There are four classes of Chryssalids, the workers, the warriors, the spies, and the queens. Like ants, the workers rarely fight, and when they do, are not very good at it. They differ only slightly fro the warriors in that they have, instead of mouth tentacles, grinding teeth. There teeth are used for digging and excavating tunnels. As well as this important function, they can spit a fluid that hardens into the strength of ceramic tile. (ex: toilet seats) used in half inch layers, this coats the walls of their numerous tunnel. The workers rarely use their grinding teeth anymore, however, as their technology has surpassed their biological adaptations. They are the technicians and engineers of the Chryssalids, building ships and buildings.
The warriors are as descibed above, and they are by far the most numerous of all the castes. They are the fighting class, obviously, but even that they are not too good at. As the Chryssalis are all tentacle, aiming guns is eceptionally difficult for them. However, they can all sucker to celings and walls. Also, along with this prodegious skill, there absence of a skeletal structure enables them to squish into very small spaces, like air ducts. Standing 5 feet tall they can compress into a ball roiughly 1.5 feet in diameter. They can also stretch to heights exceding 6 feet, but then are slimmed down. Their arms and legs go rapidly from long and skinny to short and stubby. Very versitile, these creatures come by the thousands and still are equipped to go alone.
The Queens serve only one purpose in life. While the solders are born on rich sludge pools or bodies, and workers are born in biomatter not so rich, queens are only spawned in pools exeptionally full of nutrients. they take a very long time to hatch, and there are, on avererage, one per capital ship or squadren of frigates. Each army is led by one, and they are one of the few classes of Chryssalids that have intelligence. Using natural telepathis they control the lesser "Squids," usually heedless of the death toll. They are larger than the norm, have no mouths, and their head is abnormally large. they are not, in any respect, physically retarded, and are very capable of making a swift getaway in case of a failed battle. THey are the only real intelligent Chryssalids, with the ability to think creativly. (contrary to workers who have vast technical memory but are helpless when faced with an unforseen problem.)
The last section of the Chryssalid's race is the spy caste. They are very similar to warriors, but with a greyish hued skin. They are the ones with the stinger-tentacles, and their skills surpass that of the brute soldiers. They are also used as breeders, ejecting spores into weapons or sludge to grow into more Chryssalids. Along with Queens, they have intelligence, which could be described as "cunning," but not actual brain power. They are more concerned with their lives than workers or warriors are, and go in forces much less than either of those. they are the Chryssalid's special forces, and are very adept at raids and stealth missions.
Altogether, the Chryssalids pose a very formidable fighting force, and are a menence to the galaxy as we know it.

Chryssalids exel in ship boarding because of their natural advantages, (sucker tentacles, vent transportation...) and so they rarely use the stargates that they have. However, they have been know to use them, usually to devastating effect, as it is completely unexpected.

The Chryssalids are favored by their host God Tarnak in the form of stealth. Their power that is given to them is that they are undetectable. This is the only gift given to them, but it has many consequences. They do not show up on any form of detection except for old-fashioned vision. Cameras and other such apparatus can still detect them, but not through any other means. Their belongings, such as starships and weapons, are also provided for, within a reasonable radius, of course. More useful than this appears, hosts of ships cannot be spotted until close distances are reached. (unless blind luck or ultra-tight security kicks in)

(mod: You're going to have to explain this more for it to be approved. -DC)

Hive queens also have facial tentacles, although slightly larger and longer than those of the spy class. As the Chryssalid race doesn't evolve very well, (only having one parent each) the queens are the only way they evolve. The tentacles of the queen are each unique, and each requires another, or more than one other, to fertilize. The queens mix and match the various tentacles to produce slightly different strain of Chryssalids, which in turn spread that particular strain throughout their sphere of influence. This allows the queen to practice a form of selective breeding over the myriad of different combinations, selecting various types of Chryssalids, for combating plagues or physical inabilities.
For instance, if an opposing race is employing a bacterium that destroys the Chryssalid species, the queen implants a strain of new Chryssalids, who might be immune to this disease. As there are nearly countless possibilities for combining different tentacles, over time one breed will be found with resistance to the given threat.

Emotions

The Chryssalid race is not devoid of emotions, contrary to popular belief. The belief that they are emotionless was started by impartial observers and by Chryssalid diplomatic efforts. The Chryssalids that are seen the most are the ambassadors, and they, as most diplomats, try to conceal their feelings. The other main reason is that the common folk do not understand the emotions that they do see, and therefore forget and ignore whatever they saw.
The other reason is that the Chryssalids, being alien, have very different emotions then other humanoid species do.
• They could be said to “love” the queen, but not in the way humans think of it, more mixed with undying loyalty, and with a love more of a type you would give your deity.
• They have a Frenzy emotion, that turns from the standard rage or hate into a adrenaline fueled Spree, similar to the berserker rage of the Norse, but more erratic.
• They do have a type of hate/anger, but it is not the type that comes and goes. It is more of a racial prejudice than an individual hatred, and it is not easily forgotten. Their “Hate” applies not just to the individual, but to any related, regardless of how. This also does not apply to other Chryssalids.
• They do not feel fear. They can be stressed, but that is not really considered an emotion for them.
• Because of their “Greater Good” attitude, jealousy id rarely seen in the Chryssalids. Jealousy for other races doesn’t occur either, because they consider all others as scum of the earth.
• Pity is also not seen in Chryssalids. They cannot be compassionate, unless there is a valid reason. That does not mean they don’t help those in need, but usually only other Chryssalids, and even that is rarely. They do it in an act of self interest, not for themselves, but for their race as a whole. Diplomats, however, try to show pity, as it is very good for public relations.
• Sadness is more of a remorse for them. It is not as potent, and does not last as long. They have less to be sad for, as friendships are rare, and parents are nonexistent. What usually is the case is when they hear of an accident in which a queen has died. That triggers an emotional response, but if the queen is murdered, sometimes that response goes straight to hate.
• They do have Elation, but it is like the elation you get from winning, not really anything else.
