"The Unearthly Child" was so much fun! It was weird for me, as a fan of the new series, to see the Doctor so...anti-social, protesting going back to help a wounded man like that. Forget no second chances, William Hartnell barley gave first! Not to mention being the one who needs to stop running to catch his breath. It was weird!
Also, is it just me, or does anyone else think that the Doctor's later personalities were, at least to some degree, influenced by Ian? He had a bunch of monolouges about hope and loyalty ect. that were very similar to things we've been hearing 10 say for the last 4 years. And that was just in the first story. I remember when Ian first said that thing about not giving up hope...I remembered River Song's monolouge about the Doctor...how nobody knows that everybody dies like he did but he'll never accept it. ...anybody else see this influence maybe?
I don't really like Barbra much yet...she's just a bit cliche'. Dunno yet how I feel about Susan, but her screams are a little bit annoying sometimes.
Next I get to watch the first story ever with Daliks! yay for super-old episodes!

For me, the most interesting parts wern't the black and white...they were all the weird character stuff...it was such a different show back then.

I think Ian, Barbara, Susan, and really all of his early companions made him more compassionate and began forming him into the Doctor as we know him today.
But from a real-world perspective, he became that way as he turned into the hero of the show. Early on, Ian was the hero more than the Doctor was, or was meant to be.

I really did like An Unearthly Child a lot! I like the first version more, though. I like a callous Doctor more than a funny Doctor and a Strange Susan more than a normal Susan...but that's just me.

I LOVE U.C! There was so many things going on in that episode. And...I have a little crush on Jack.
