Territory
The Cryssalid race resides almost exclusively on their one home planet, even though they have had many more under their control for a long time. Currently, they control 12 planets, 3 of which remain unknown to the other races. As stated, the only truly habited planet is their home world, the rest devoted to agriculture/military production. Their landscapes are covered in farms, which are shipped off for food, or deposited into pits which then are used to spawn more “Squids.” As Chryssalids are mostly carnivorous, (although they can eat flora) livestock is a big part of the colony planet’s production.

Their home world is another matter entirely. Very unique in the galaxy, it is one of the largest planets around. Originally a gas giant, it was struck by a large asteroid, sending up clouds. The once dense atmosphere shot up far into space, leaving the core bare. Over time, it gathered back around the planet, but the density is so much reduced that it tripled the apparent size of the giant. Also before it could regroup, a race was born. Now the atmosphere is a little denser, not permitting much outdoor living. Winds are violent and unpredictable, and so almost all of the living organisms, including Chryssalids, choose to live under the ground. Also, the meteorite broke off a large portion of the planet’s surface, creating a huge asteroid field inside the swirling clouds of dust above. There are great fissures in the surface of the planet, again caused by the fatal asteroid, reducing the gravitational field, and allowing living far beneath the crust. This is the only way to escape the crushing gravity, but even so, it has higher gravity than the Earth standard, leading to the development of multiple limbed creatures. (to spread out the weight.)

Several of the colony planets have stargates on them, of both types, and the Chryssalids believe that they have found all of them, although that may not be the case. Searches have been conducted, but that is never a high priority, as Chryssalids prefer space invasions. The stargates are well protected, and those who investigate through them are not shot, but are warned off nicely.
