As a gentleman who enjoys storytelling in a creative fashion, I have recently been playing around with the idea of creating a playlist with a theme based around the life and adventures of an airship captain/pirate. I came up with this idea after buying a nice(if not extremely simple) little leatherbound journal from my local Wal-Mart with the intention of writing in it from the perspective of an airship pirate.

I have just recently created another personal playlist on playlist.com and begun filling it up with music based on this concept(which I plan on either posting in my profile for others to hear or right here in this post. Whichever strikes my fancy later on).

Now, on to why I am writing this: I need suggestions. The theme I'm looking for is something along the lines of a pirate or other sea-fairing person. It does not specifically have to be about steampunk, which should widen the list of possible songs/bands a great deal. It just has to have the feel of old-fashioned ocean travel. Things like popular sea shanties and such.

I do hope I'm making sense, and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Look to British folk music. I suggest Show of Hands or Seth Lakeman. They have some nice pirate ditties.

Brandy, You're A Fine Girl

If it's not on your list, you're a loon.

Wow, thank you very much for all three of those suggestions! They are indeed very wonderful and precisely what I was looking for!

I have also been searching through old folk songs and such as you suggested Behatzlacha. It was my first thought when I decided to start making this playlist actually. I love folk music more than most people of my age normally would.

I love this idea. Try War Dogs by Juno Reactor. It has a bit of a modern feel, but it never fails to get my imagination going. ^_^

My good sir, if I might suggest a musical piece? I believe that a good song that describes the hardiness of a sailor of air and sea would be the traditional shanty known as "Spanish Ladies".

A little less noteworthy than some of the other suggestions, but I always loved the Airship theme from Final Fantasy VII.
