Deirdre gave a discontented grunt as she made her way through the bare trees of the winter. The snow was cold under her paws, but her fur had filled out at the first signs of winter, so it barely affected her. There was a river alongside her, a soft trickling emanating from it, under the ice. The moon, conspicuous in the clear sky, was so bright even the trees managed to cast long shadows, and it was like watching the hooting, flying Putnar blink: light as she weaved through the edges of the bare forest, dark when she padded behind a trunk, light again when she passed a gap in the trees, then dark, and so on and so forth.
It might have been interesting, and even exciting to some, but to Deirdre, it was nothing but a hassle. There were so many shadows, so many gaps, and her eyes had time to adjust none of it, as it flickered back and forth as she walked. She could have simply stopped, and so would the shifts of light, but she had yet to reach her destination, a cave she had recently found that offered more warmth and shelter than a hole in the snow would, and so she continued to walk, occasionally uttering low growls of displeasure.

Aguta had been wandering around in the snow getting used to her first winter. She had been born just at the end of last winter and wasn't quite used to the cold. It was seeping in through around her cuts on her muzzle and shoulder and making her a little cold. She was glad she had her chipmunk skin on her leg though. That was keeping her pretty warm. She sniffed under a tree for something to dig into and make a den. She was getting quite tired and since she didn't have a pack she had been wandering around, rather hungry and tired, always moving to keep from staying in someones territory too long. She sat down and then scooted her tail under her butt as the snow made her even colder. "Stupid snow..." She said as she huddled down and looked for anything that might let her hide in it and stay warm. She saw a cave in the distance and thought she might be able to make her way there. She stood back up, shook off the snow and made her way towards the cave she saw, hoping no one else would be there. Spicy Marmalade! Now that it's exploded into being, seize hold of this evening's chance.

Soon the trees dispersed, and Deirdre gladly trotted to the safe confines of the cave. It had been abandoned for some reason or another (possibly its former inhabitant had been killed on a trek for food) but it was not much concern to its new resident, so long as it was hers to use, and hers alone.
She went about the cave, which was large enough for a few Varg to fit in close together, before choosing a spot. She spun a few times before coming to rest, a contended sigh leaving her as her eyes drifted shut. Yes, it was much warmer here, and she could see why a she-Varg she had met before had suggested she find one.
But her comfort was short lived, for a new scent suddenly reached her. It was that of a young, female Varg, probably wandering about in the snow for its first winter. A chill wind blew in, and although her fur bristled, it was not because of a cold. She pulled back her lips and flattened her ears, lifting her head as deep, warning growls emanated from her throat, echoing clearly in the cave and out into the open, into the ears of anyone close.
