Setting About 2 weeks before the timejump!Chuunin exam is supposed to happen. (Ziri and I got bored.)
Type Open!

Sasuke still wasn't sure exactly how Orochimaru-sama had done it, but he had to give the Sannin credit. Despite declaring war on Konoha with Suna's help three years ago, Orochimaru-sama had managed to ask for and receive permission to send a Genin team to Konoha for the Chuunin exam being held there. Of course Orochimaru-sama wasn't going to set foot in the village again, and neither was Kabuto unless Orochimaru-sama ordered him, but Sasuke was going as officially he was still listed as a Genin despite his skill level being past that of a Jounin's.

He knew it for the slap in the face of the Hokage that it was: even though Sasuke was still considered a missing-nin, he was a shinobi of Sound and regardless of what terms the villages might have with each other, the rules clearly stated that no home-village-approved Genin could be barred from the taking the exam. The Hokage had no choice but to allow the team Sasuke was assigned to entrance to the village without worry of assault by Konoha's ANBU. The Uchiha smirked with dark humor, adjusting his pack on his shoulder. A part of him wondered what his former teammates would think, while another hoped Naruto would be there. Orochimaru-sama had gotten word that Naruto had been training under Jiraiya and, like Sasuke, was still technically a Genin. Sasuke wanted to see how Naruto had improved. If the dobe was capable of improvement. It would be a good test of his own ability, a good way to see if he was closer to his goal of surpassing Itachi without becoming him. He would be better than his b*****d brother. The next time they met, it would be Sasuke walking away and Itachi on the ground, preferably dead to unconscious.

One day, brother. One day soon.

The sun shone down on the Uchiha compound, light filtering through the leaves on the trees that stood at the gate, dappling the ground with shifting shadows. She sat in the branches, one long leg dangling from the thick bough, her chakra supressed until it was almost stilled within her, her breathing slow and steady. She watched him as he approached, her eyes emotionless as she reclined against the trunk. Pale bangs were caught by the wind and blown across her face, but she remained motionless.

Sasuke lead the way to the Uchiha compound, ignore the stares, glares, and outright hostile looks thrown his way. As he doubted any of the hotels would rent a place to Sound-nin, he lead his two Genin companions and the Jounin also with them to the one place where he couldn't be denied entrance. Though the Hokage was more than welcome to try.

As he neared the compound, he picked up on something. He came to a stop, his senses reaching, reaching to find the source, and moments later, he did. "Might as well show yourself, Sakura."

She dropped from the tree and landed with the natural grace of a cat, releasing her hold on her chakra, allowing it to flare back to its natural flow pattern. The usual vibrant spark in her eyes was gone, leaving them flat and cold as she crossed her arms over her chest. She met his words with silence, her spine straight, leaving no trace of the broken pride he'd left her with two years before. The lost little Genin that had followed him everywhere was gone, replaced with a young woman who had the power to level hillsides, and she waited. Whether it was for an explaination or an apology, neither her posture nor her gaze let on, but she stood between them and the compound, denying them passage.

Sasuke's eyes flicked over her, noting the differences in her stance, her eyes. He regarded her silently, waiting for her to say something. The silence stretched and strained, until he finally he spoke again. "Move."

Two steps and she was before him, the only warning he had was the slight shifting of her shoulders before she slapped him. The loud crack filled the air, whether it came from her hand striking his face or his connecting with the compound wall, Sakura didn't care. He wasn't worth the effort of pulling the strike, and old rage rolled off of her in waves as she pulled off her gloves and stuffed them back in her kunai pouch.

Lightning reflexes had him taking the force of his body impacting the compound wall in a way that was least painful...relatively speaking. Still, he was back on his feet just as his entourage was squawking out "Sasuke-sama!" Sasuke merely raised a hand, indicating that they should shut up and stay put. A faint smirk brushed his lips before his expression went apathetic again, his left hand absently wiping at the blood coming from his nose. His cheek stung like a b***h and the bones there felt odd. However, self-healing was something Orochimaru-sama had insisted on Kabuto teaching Sasuke, so it wasn't a problem. He kept his dark eyes on her.

"You've got her strength. How's the genjutsu?"

Without lifting a finger to make a seal, the air around them rippled and turned black, mangled bodies covered the ground in a writhing mass. Moans and screams of the dying and the wounded filled thier ears, hands grasping at their clothes and ankles. The stench of blood and bile filled their nostrils, the gore soaking their sandals and seeping into their clothes. The air suddenly both hot and frigid at the same time, the sudden shifts in temperature giving them the shakes. A figure wreathed in white, their robes unstained by the filth, pierced them with thousands of burning needles before everything snapped back to normal in an instant, and still Sakura was unmoving.

That was tame compared to what Orochimaru-sama had subjected him to. Tame. Still, it was intriguing in a way. She'd gotten much better, and he could admit that freely without any stings to his pride. Though it amused him that she had entertained his question.

Behind him, his companions were shaking off the effects of the illusion. Sasuke shook his head minutely in disgust. Weakling idiots. If it weren't for the fact that Genin had to participate in teams of three and needed a Jounin to accompany them, he would've come alone.

Again, he waited for her to say something. If she persisted in this useless silence, then there was nothing to be said, and he would be on his way.

"I hope you're happy, Uchiha." Venom coated her words, and she nearly spat his name when she said it. Visibly bristling, her eyes burned with her fury she'd had years to nurture.

That smirk which had so often graced his features back when they were teammates returned now as his hands slipped into the pockets of his pants. Her fury didn't bother him; he had been expecting it. "It's too bad you're Chuunin. It could've been fun to meet you in the arena."
PostPosted: Sat Dec 17, 2005 9:23 pm

"Hokage-sama would be furious that I ruined the arena. Besides, I'm afraid Orochimaru wouldn't be too happy if his next vessel was returned to him in a bucket."

Sasuke made a hmph of laughter. "We're going to get settled in the compound," he said, reaching up to lightly scratch a spot on his left shoulder near the base of his neck. "Was there anything else?"

"Curse seal bothering you much?" The sneer curled her upper lip. "Or do such great, honorless shinobi such as yourself feel no pain?"

"Presumptions unbecome you," Sasuke replied, dropping his hand. That you reacted... He left the thought incomplete and moved his head to the side a fraction. "Come on, you three. We still have work to do."
