Poor Thatton. Poor Thatton, having to put up with all the silly things that everyone else had to put up with. He was above that! Most certainly.

Perhaps that's why the ruins apologized to him? In a manner of speaking.

As Thatton walked by, a small flight of bats erupted from a well-concealed door, revealing an entrance to the ruins. Just inside seemed to be a ... kitchen, perhaps? It was difficult to tell after so many years, but even after so long, there was a pair of slick black daggers resting on a side counter. Perhaps another adventurer's? They were quite ... well taken care of for being old - iron, upon closer inspection. Usually 6 gp each in a weapon shop, certainly. And 3 gp laying nearby, too!

Congratulations! No roll is needed here. Take what loot you want and make your next event roll!

Nevermind the shrieking when the bats tried to maul his poor face. After regaining his composure (which had you asked, he'd never lost in the first place, really, he was just letting out a warning cry for the bats' sake,) Thatton hesitantly into the space revealed. Wouldn't want to find anymore bats, after all. Wouldn't be fair to them.

"Is that a kitchen?!"

Incredulous sounding, Thatton seemed to forget all about the flying terrors and made his way into the kitchen. He had been feeling a bit hungry.

Moments later, cursing and bitterly pushing things around with his foot, he happened upon the coins. Deciding with a thoughtful 'Oh' and momentary smile that further berating of the poor innocent kitchen was not necessary, he eyed the daggers with a roll of his eyes and used them to clean his nails as he walked out and explored further. Daggers were such primitive forms of expression…

Perhaps, for Thatton at least, daggers were a primitive form of expression, but somewhere in his mind he had to admit they were useful. Especially for bats that were ... let's say slightly upset at being disturbed from their slumber.

Which is precisely what got one so irate. To say beauty sleep was needed in a dark, dank, musty, nasty excuse for a once-proud civilisation's ruins would be quite an understatement, wouldn't it?

At any rate, it wasn't long after their initial encounter that a bat of no less or greater size than Thatton's head decided to attack it (Thatton's head, that is). From high above the smug one's head it dove, screeching like ...

Well really like a bat out of he-- old ruins.

Maybe if the Breton wasn't so smug he could instinctively react with the weapons he'd just picked up. Because unless he was extremely quick with one of his spells, that's the only time he'd have before getting the new nickname "bat face".

Funny how that works, isn't it?

Roll your choice of battle skill before writing any post. If you get higher than me, you win, and may check the monster for loot (if you dare) before your next event roll. If you get lower, you lose 1HP (and the battle) and make your next event roll now. On the event of a tie, wait for my next battle roll!

Thatton had just finished polishing off his thumb nail when that ominous feeling of YOU'RE ABOUT TO GET YOUR NOSE RIPPED OFF came over him. Now, Thatton was never much for jumping head first into his instincts - he was more the type to argue with his instincts until his instincts gave up and told him to go die. Luckily for him, his form of 'arguing' was simply to look up and WHAM! Angry bat.

Another 'warning sound' came out the man as he, for lack of a better thing to do, (and proving that this particular Breton was really not a clever bulb) smacked at the thing with the broad side of his new loot.

Apprently, Thatton had some practice with girly slappy motions and managed to thwack quite hard! Surprised at himself (and vowing to rewrite this moment in history with massive explosions and glorious magical displays), Thatton looked wide-eyed in the direction of the bat for anything interesting...?

((LOL I'm fairly sure that won't work or I did something wrong lol guys don't kill me <3 <3 ))

HOLY CRAP THERE'S NOTHING!
Rolling for averret.
Thatton's 2nd Turn!

Thatton really didn't expect to find anything did he?

Thatton was a really lucky guy ... but not so lucky he could produce something out of nothing.

Seriously. The Breton smacked the bat so hard he could have gotten away with exaggerating some parts of his 'fierce battle' and still be accurate. Because as far as looking 'toward the bat' was concerned, that could be in any direction he wanted. He'd still be wrong.

Apparently the bat vaporized upon contact.

Let's just hope it was because that bat was actually some kind of shadow or something ... and not magical dagger properties that no one will ever find again until he hits someone playfully threateningly.

In any case, Thatton got lucky for a second time, as the direction he happened to pick for looking towards yielded a single shiny GP he'd forgotten to pick up on his way in.

Not much reward for flailing around like a little girl, but at least it was something.

(haha fooled you there was something after all)

You may pick up your reward. Afterward, this turn is over. Make your next event roll!

Thatton blinked three more times, sparing at empty air trying to clear his vision and fix that whole 'disappearing problem.'

When it became painfully obvious it was not a problem needing a blink, Thatton came to accepting the disappearance with a snide comment about 'stupid conjurers' followed by an 'oh wait' moment. He almost missed the last coin altogether, mumbling as he was, and when he caught sight of the glitter glanced over his shoulder once more like he were too good to make a trip back across the kitchen just to fetch a coin!

But of course he did.
And then he left the kitchen and, covering his head with his dagger-umbrella lest more things descended on him, continued exploring.

Oh, there would be more things. Oh yes, yes there would be.

As Thatton exited the kitchen there was anothe rflutter of wings. Ominously... but quietly. Not quite close, at least it seemed.

It seemed, until of course another bat dove straight for his face. Maybe he just had one of those faces. Maybe bats really didn't like Thatton. Maybe it was just an unlucky day.
