Life was just peachy. No really, it was, honestly - one day he was sitting around, minding his own business and running a fairly respectable one, then the next BAM. Mehrunes Dagon was skipping around in your district wrecking s**t and generally being a nuisance. Nevermind that the supplier from Kvatch had already gotten killed, as well as his sister and their nephew, leaving you with only that b*****d from Cheydinhal and his "Oh well I have to charge more because of the trip and danger~" and ...
Well he wasn't bitter anyway. No, really. He'd gotten caught up on his reading. That's how he found out about Loamhill, you know - even though it wasn't in any books yet, he'd read about it. The words told him about it. Sure, most people would call that "crazy" but it was here, wasn't it? Yes it was.
And it was the perfect place to continue his studies. Daedra were so utterly fascinating - why he'd never noticed it before, who knew? Oh but he knew now, they were terribly interesting. Though not that Malacath fellow, or that bestial Hircine...
Sanguine, though, that was an interesting creature. And Namira, though he wasn't particularly fond of her; the works she accomplished were amusing though. And the Madgod, Sheogorath - what an unsolvable puzzle. It just made him want to solve it more.
And that's what he'd been doing the whole time; his septims dwindled away as he stayed locked in an inn room, then his books went to purchasing a tent (at least the ones he'd already read), and gradually to buying food.
All good things must end, they say - and well, he knew that but it didn't stop him from reading his final book. A thin one, it wouldn't last the rest of the day, but an unusual one on the makeup of Sheogorath's realm.
How odd.
Malrun would find himself encountering something else to make him not-bitter soon, however, when his legs cramped and he got up to stretch. When he opened the door to his tent, he found himself not in the relatively dry little plot he'd picked out at Loamhill, but instead on a tiny island in the ... well, quite frankly in the middle of nowhere. It couldn't be considered somewhere if there was nothing but water around, now could it?
As he took a step out, however, the landscape shattered like a lamp slammed against the ground, thousands of tiny glass pieces falling and disintegrating to reveal instead an oddly bright forest.
"Lovely." Wasn't it? Oh the Altmer was just ecstatic about this turn of events. Oh no, really, really - he'd never been so happy in his life to find himself somewhere completely different!
Might as ******** well take a walk. Maybe Dagon would appear here too and step on him.
Not bitter.

Battle Time for Malrun!Rolling for Variable Nonsense. Malrun's 1st Turn! Malrun has encountered a skinned hound! Malrun probably should have wished that he was still at Loamhill reading books instead of wishing Dagon was there to step on him.
Maybe then it wouldn't have come true.
Well okay. So it wasn't Dagon, but it was sure as hell ugly like Dagon. Or maybe it was cute like Dagon. If Dagon could be classified as cute. In a sick, twisted kind of way.
Whatever the case, it wasn't long before Malrun would be accompanied by something that would, at first, seem like something completely ordinary. The hell-hound's growls would arrive first, its skinless body just out of sight, hidden by the small contour of the ground.
Then it came, with an amazing speed matched only by the size of its seemingly powerful jaws. The skinned hound made no attempt to be subtle about what it wanted either, lunging for the grumpy mer as soon as it thought it was close enough to do so.
But hell. at least it didn't smell like a decomposing corpse. That was a plus, right?

[Conjuration]
What the hells was that--
"Agh!"
The Altmer jumped out of the way, just barely skirting sharp teeth and slavering jaws. What in Mora's name was that hideous thing?! A dog without skin? He had to be having a nightmare, or something, didn't he?
But the teeth had been much too close, and much to real, for comfort. As such, Malrun decided he wasn't exactly up for a game of "eat the Altmer" and opened his book, focusing on the words inside for a moment as he read out the incantation of the spell he'd been researching.
While it wasn't as ... big as he'd been lead to believe, the strange lizard that rose from thin air apparently did the job. The Clannfear caught the hound mid leap, promptly teaching it what a real bite could do. Malrun simply watched on in horror, having never encountered real battle before.
Well ... maybe not ... horror precisely. More a morbid fascination. He tilted his head slightly, his pounding heart slowing when his summoned fiend disappeared after its work was done.
What a weird little dog. It almost got him too - heh. Just because he hadn't perfected his use of a blade yet didn't mean that he was defenseless.
When he was sure the damn thing was dead, he crouched near it, curious if it'd been wearing anything - did people keep skinless hounds as pets in his apparent dream world? Or maybe he could at least figure out what the ******** it was.
Dogs didn't really go around without skin, after all.
[Lewt check? lulz.]

Keep moving, Malrun!Rolling for Variable Nonsense. Malrun's 1st Turn! Malrun doesn't know the danger he's in by stopping. Malrun may not be completely defenseless, but that doesn't make him very astute.
Or does it?
Searching through the dead hound would bring him a rusted collar, worth perhaps 5 GP at market. Maybe he should set up a shop at Loamhill?
He really should continue on, however, as who knows if the dog was the only one around?
