A couple months after book 5 came out I debated the fact that Sirius is in fact deceased. There were some hard to convince people that Sirius is in fact deceased. Now that book 6 is out, what is your position on Sirius's death? Provide evidence if you believe he is not dead, trapped, or is a ghost. Has your position on Sirius's death changed after book 6? Explain?

I voted dead, because
1. It doesn't seem like JKR to make it out as if a character is dead, when he/she is in fact not. Rephrase that: I think it unlikely that JKR would fake a character's death.
2. GAH! I had proof of this sometime ago, when that "Is Sirius really dead?" thread was still in the subforum. domokun There was an interview with JKR, who said she had cried after she wrote the character death. I'll try to find it later. I have to go to registration soon.

sota32 i think hes dead for he was hit with the unforgivable cures wasent he No, he wasn't.OotP, American Hardcover Edition, page 805 Harry saw Sirius duck Bellatrix's jet of red light. He was laughing at her. "Come on, you can do better than that!" he yelled, his viouce echoing around the cavernous room. The second jet of light hit him squarely in the chest. Doesn't say anything about color change.

Lupin would have to have some reason to know that if you fall/go through the veil that you would die - the ministry probably did some tests ect. on it. I mean, Lupin wouldn't tell Harry that Sirius was dead without being sure...

I think he's dead because nothing would keep him from Harry or fighting in the battle. If he was trapped I think he would've died trying to get out, because he doesn't strike me as the type to sit and wait for someone to get him out. Also, it's almost nice to have him finaly at peace, but that might just be me.

As someone else said, it is unlikely that JKR would fake a character death. I mean, it would be an interesting twist if he really was still alive - but I highly, highly doubt he's still alive.
Poor Sirius though, finally gets out of Azkaban and only a couple of years later he falls through a drapery.

Ooh, you really got me with the trapped. I think he is dead and his soul is trapped in the veil. Definitly not a ghost though. And since I think his soul is trapped in the veil, then I also think he will never be able to rest in peace.

I believe that Sirius is in fact dead. Like many here have said, JKR wouldn't fake a character death. I think that he died, and his soul left for wherever souls go to (I won't get into that.)
However I read an interesting fanfic a little while ago that put an idea into my head. Even though Sirius was an outcast of the Black family, Number 12 Grimmauld Place is still his, and how do we know that he has not become a portrait like his mother. Because he was an unpopular member of the family, perhaps he can be found in an obsecure room. Maybe it's just the part of me that doesn't want to see a book without Snuffles, but wouldn't that make for an interesting storyline if Harry could talk with his godfather again?

I think that Sirius is dead-- as dead as he could be, at least. That veil is an experiment, I think. I think they're trying to contact the dead through it. Luna Lovegood seems to believe that anyone who dies is never truly gone. I think I agree with her; Sirius is dead, but that doesn't mean he won't be able to help Harry in some way, even if it's just the thought of him. I guess I've thought a lot about this, and I've come to some unusual conclusions...

I wish he was alive, but I mean JK killed him. Why would she bring him back. But I don't think the veil was very well explained so, maybe he's trapped? We'll just have to wait.
