I got put on that on friday. I've been getting palpitations (think that might be what you're describing) and my jaw muscles are kind of tight. Its possible that it is the lexapro and if you've never had it before then I reckon it will be. Talk to your doctor about it.

I used to get that numbness and then black out on Lorazepam. Can you call your doctor directly? If your mom doesn't believe it, tell her to check your blood pressure. When that was happening to me, my blood pressure was far below normal.

hey guys i been on lexapro for over a year, and my sister is a doctor...

blackouts usually means low blood pressure...its common to many depressives and anxious people, thats mainly due to a change in body weight (if you're underweight) and metabolism and also how well your appettite is going.

lexapro as with most of the new generation SSRI has actually minimal side effects, these are related to sex drive, as well as functions that we do not control such as yawning, sweating. so for the first few weeks expect yourself to have sweaty palms and sore neck, and sore jaw and plenty of yawning...

but thats as bad as it gets...

things like palpitations are just hte fact that your body is adjusting the neurotransmitters in your brain and its also a symptom of depression etc.

on a good note this is as bad as things get on these meds, on an even better note almost everything is back to normal within 3 months...

the most important thing with lexapro is to actually gradually increase the dosage and NEVER EVER stop cold turkey if you're goin to stop it has to be decrease gradually...

you have to remember that like with any other anitdepressants the effect is not instant and usually it gets worse before it gets better...thats just your body adjusting to it all...

i've been through every possible scenario with this medication...i actually was on 30mg's for a couple of months which is actually more then the recommended those...but let me tell you this...no matter what you going through now these meds are worth sticking with...just over a year ago i was in hospital after an attempted suicide, a year ago i was cutting constantly, crying myself to sleep and not handling life at all...taking these meds everyday have changed my life...

my best friend used to be on xanax and i had to watch her get worse n worse, had to see her with cuts and scars all over, not handling life at all to the point she got hospitalised for over a week...thats when the doctors at the hospital put her on lexapro...within a week she was a different person...its been almost 2 months since then and she hasnt cut once, she's working, she's actually taking care of herself and fighting her condition...

Oh god, I hated lexapro when I was on it...it made me feel ill and made me twitch/shiver for no reason....luckily, got off it pretty quickly, but still....Yeah, some meds just don't work well with some people, which is why I gave up on that (besides the fact that I literally wanted to stab my psych because he was such a condecending b*****d)

anywho, I'm sorry, that was really off-topic...I would reccommend talking to you mom again, and letting her know that you feel like lexapro is causing these effects, and then getting put on something else, maybe.

The only thing Lexapro did to me was make me sleepy all the time. Other than that it really didn't do anything for me.

Oy, my mother insists that I have to take those.
By the way, my mother refers to me by my acual name and not "Stevo"

Thank you. I just got back from an appointment with the worst psychiatrist EVER, Dr. Napoli at Jewish Family Services in Buffalo, NY. I told him I wanted to get off 100 mg doxepin and 20 mg 'zac and he told me to stop those two immediately and start taking 40 mg lexapro--just because he had free samples of it. He's the most insensitive jerk I've ever met, he actually made me CRY. Excuse me if I can't talk about my father threatening suicide without getting choked up!! At least PRETEND to care!! God, he's so horrible, I complained in writing and I'm never speaking another word to him. You've got to be a really shitty psychiatrist to make your patients WORSE. I still feel like crying...

My advice is to talk to your doctor. Don't go to your parents. Mine are still in denial. I had the worst time when I was on Lexapro, but that doesn't mean that it is the cause of your problems. See what they can do. Maybe Depakote might be better.

i would suggest you start a journal where you record alll that you feel while on this medication then call up your doctor and ask him or her about it ... if your parents won't listen find someone who will Take Care!

I've told you this before, but yeah, you should talk to your doctor.

I've been on Lexapro for about 6 months now and I get that pulstating feeling too when I'm in withdrawl, like if I havent taken my medicine the day before.

I don't think its anything to worry about, but make sure you tell your doctor about it. Not just your mom.

From someone who went through psychotic episodes FROM medication and being TAKEN OFF medication... what you are experiencing is VERY REAL. gonk

For myself, Lexapro makes me feel like I'm on meth or something. Because of this I can't take it every day. If I take it every day, I stop eating, I stop sleeping, I get constant migraines, and my jaw clenches uncontrollably. o_o;;

I've been on Lexapro for a few months now, and I haven't experienced anything negative. I've had that feeling of numbness in my hands, however I think that has something to do with my diet. Then again, I guess it also depends on your dosage. Right now I have a small dosage, so that's affecting why my reactions are so limited.
