A very powerful Miyazaki movie.
Though I kind of have mixed feelings about the ending.
I didn't really feel particularly sad at the end after the part where Setsuko dies. The record player montage had the effect of "she's gone but we'll leave you with the happy memories of her" which I thought was very good, especially for her character.
My main issue with the ending was that it just sort of, well, ended. The brother mentions in the very beginning that he's dead, and the main premise of the whole movie is that he's reliving his memories as a ghost, but it never really revisits when exactly he dies. It left things sort of unresolved for me, even though you know the brother dies.

the movie made me cry also. especially at the end.
the way setsuko died had so much power the way they made it silent added suspense and just said...she never woke up. see the memories of setsuko really made me think of what i would do if i was in that situation.

i really love that movie it really makes people appreciate what they have a lot more than they previously did. it made me think of everything from a new perspective crying

I didn't cry. I don't usually during movies unless it REALLY affects me somehow. But like I said, the record player montage kind of made that part of it better and I was like, "Okay. I can deal with that."

Miyazaki actually has nothing to do with this movie at all. It's a common misconception. This is a Isao Takahata movie.

Still this is a great movie.
