Chapter 1
Shimmerpaw slinked out of her den quietly and padded into the center of the camp clearing. She sprawled herself out and began to sun in the rays that were beginning to break into the canopy of trees that protected camp. A few cats were beginning to emerge from their dens and wander into the clearing. Rowanpaw padded over to Shimmerpaw, sitting down once she reached her.
“Hey Shimmerpaw, we’re needed for the dawn patrol.” she announced.
“Ok. Thanks. I heard MistClan is pushing to get the Crossing.”
“Yeah. Things might get interesting!” She said jumping around purring.
Rowanpaw always got this excited. Rowanpaw and Shimmerpaw were litter mates and best friends. The two she-cats followed the other three cats, Hazelfur, Flamecrest, and Moongaze, out of the rose bush tunnel and along the border with MistClan. As they were approaching the Crossing, a yowl from a cat rang through the area. The patrol darted towards the sound to find Stormstar, the leader of MistClan, with a large group of cats.
“What are you doing?” hissed Flamecrest.
“Taking back what should rightfully be ours. The Crossing.” Stormstar stated.
The Crossing is a small piece of land that used to be covered by the river. The two clans fought over who it belonged to for many moons.
“The Crossing is ours, it always has been!” Hazelfur argued.
“Then I guess you’ll have to fight for it.” Coldmist growled.
Coldmist is a MistClan warrior known for his sharp tongue.
“Bring it!” Rowanpaw hissed.
Moongaze silenced her with a flick of her tail.
“Go get back up!” Flamecrest commanded to Rowanpaw.
“But I want to fight!” she wined.
“I’ll go!” Shimmerpaw offered running towards camp.
She made it there in record time a notified the camp. She left camp with Flutterleaf, Raindrop, Pumkinfoot, Shadefrost, Shadowclaw, and Mapleleaf. When they arrived at the Crossing, the battle was going on full blast. Shimmerpaw jumped on the first cat she saw. She landed a large scratch down his side and jumped back before he could strike her. He jumped on her and pinned her down where she couldn’t move. She recognized Coldmist step out of the shadows with a struggling golden brown shape in his grasp.
“This should teach you MoonClan kittypets to give us what we want.” he hissed holding down the squirming cat.
“You recognize this kit, correct?” he asked turning the writhing cat for her to see.
Shimmerpaw froze in fear as she locked eyes with the cat. It was Rowanpaw.
“Stop! What are you gonna do to her!?” Shimmerpaw said fighting to get away from the cat who was holding her.
“Oh, nothing I’ll regret.” he snickered.
He raised a paw and cut down the side of her, making her cry out in pain.
“Stop!!!!” Shimmerpaw screeched, but it felt like no one could hear her.
Coldmist raised another paw and slashed it down the left side of her face.
“Ahhh! Shimmerpaw, I can’t see!” Rowanpaw cried, flailing her paws.
Shimmerpaw had stopped struggling by now. Coldmist gave her many more life threatening wounds and then left her there. The cat pinning Shimmerpaw down removed himself and the she-cat scrambled up over to her friends side.
“Rowanpaw? Are you ok?” Shimmerpaw asked, her voice high pitched with worry.
“Yes.” She replied opening her uninjured eye.
It sparkled with knowingness.
“Don’t look at me like that!” Shimmerpaw said expressing her grief.
“Shimmerpaw, you know, don’t you?” she asked.
“Yes.” Shimmerpaw buried her nose in her fur.
“I want you to become a warrior. I want you to train hard, and be good. For the both of us.” Rowanpaw said sighing.
“No! Don’t leave me!” Shimmerpaw cried.
“Shimmerpaw, StarClan has a plan for all of us. Obviously they want me to join them. I’ll see you in the very distant future.” She said closing her good eye.
Her body became still and her heat slowly faded.
“Rowanpaw! Rowanpaw! No, Roawnpaaaaaaaaawwwwww!” Shimmerpaw cried.
Her cry rang through the clearing but was lost in the sound of the battle. She buried her muzzle in her best friends fur and grieved in the midst of battle.

Chapter 2
Shimmerpaw sat bathed in moonlight, her nose buried in the fur of her dead friend. Rowanpaw would be buried when sunrise came. Shimmerpaw sat up and looked up at Silverpelt.
“Are you up there?” she asked Rowanpaw.
She heard rustling as Sootpaw exited the apprentices den. He sat next to Shimmerpaw, nuzzling her.
“You look beautiful in the moonlight.” he purred.
He was known for having a crush on Shimmerpaw, even though he had access to almost every she-cat in the clan.
“If your trying to flatter me to cheer me up it’s not working. Nice try though.” Shimmerpaw purred.
There lost den mate was too much grief to be lost at once.
“I’m going to miss her‘ Shimmerpaw whispered.
“Me two. We all are.” Sootpaw replied, “Come and get some rest.”
“No. I’ll sleep here.” Shimmerpaw answered settling down and pressing her nose in her friends fur.
“Then I’ll stay with you.” He said lying down beside Shimmerpaw and pressing their pelts together.
The two apprentices sat like that until the sun rose into the sky.
“Come on, you two. Get up.” Flamecrest said, prodding the apprentices in the side.
Shimmerpaw rose to see Rowanpaw being dragged out of camp to be buried. Sadness welled up inside of her. Sootpaw was already padding over to the fresh kill pile. She joined him and grabbed a vole. As she bit into it, as the other apprentices joined her and Sootpaw.
“Tell us about the battle!” Dandelionpaw pressed.
“She doesn’t want to talk about it now.” Sootpaw growled.
“We can always hear about it later.” Robinpaw stated.
She was always to serious. It was a surprise that her and Dandelionpaw are best friends. Despite their contrast, Robinpaw manages to put up with Danelionpaw’s sudden outbursts.
“I wish I could have sat with you, Shimmerpaw.” Skypaw said.
She was also Rowanpaw’s best friend. Shimmerpaw, Skypaw, and Rowanpaw were the MoonClan trio.
“The Gathering is tonight.” Sootpaw said, changing the subject.
“Oooooo! I hope I get to go!” Dandelion squealed.
Shimmerpaw turned to see Wisteriastar heading towards the group of chatting apprentices.
“Hello Wisteriastar.” Skypaw greeted.
“I would like to tell you which one of you are going to the Gathering tonight. I will take Shimmerpaw, Sootpaw, and Skypaw. You two will be able to go to the next one.” She explained, walking away.
“Yay! I’m glad we get to go.” Shimmerpaw said excitedly, “I just wish Rowanpaw was here to be with me.”
Shimmerpaw peered over the edge at White Rock. The area was slowly beginning to fill up with cats. Wisteriastar gave the signal with her tail and led the cats down the side of the hill. Shimmerpaw met up quickly with her MistClan friend, Waterpaw.
“Hello, Waterpaw.” Shimmerpaw greeted.
“Hello.” Waterpaw greeted lightly.
“How have things been?”
“I heard about Rowanpaw after the battle.” she said sadly.
“It’s ok. It’s not your fault.” Shimmerpaw said giving her ear a reassuring lick.
“Coldmist wasn’t punished for what he did. He should have been though. When I talked to Dewstream about it, she just said that Stormstar favors him. I probably shouldn’t tell you this, but Stormstar is planning something. He-” She was cut off suddenly.
“Shouldn’t you be with your mentor?” a voice sneered.
Waterpaw spun around, fear coming off her in waves.
“S-she said t-that I could talk.” she stuttered.
“Of all the cats, you choose to talk to a MoonClan cat.” he growled.
He padded off and signaled with his tail for her to follow.
“I have to go. Goodbye.” She said running after him.
Shimmerpaw watched after her friend as she scurried, worried. A yowl from the top of White Rock signaled the Gathering to start. Cometstar of SpiritClan spoke first. He informed the cats of a new group of apprentices, and two apprentices that became warriors. When he was finished, Blackstar of GhostClan told the clans of an elder that passed on to StarClan and of some kits that went missing.
“So you should keep an eye out and keep your kits in camp.” he finished.
As Stormstar of MistClan went to speak, Wisteriastar pushed in front of him.
“Cats of the Clans, MistClan attacked a passing MoonClan patrol yesterday. We were able to send reinforcements, but one of their warriors killed one of our apprentices!” She hissed.
Their were roars of outrage spreading through the crowd of cats, mostly from MoonClan.
“We had no intention of killing any cat.” Stormstar defended.
“Then maybe you would like to have a word with my apprentice.” Wisteriastar hissed.
“Are you really going to believe an apprentice over a fellow leader?” Stormstar sneered.
“Shimmerpaw, please come up here and tell the clans what you witnessed.” Wisteriastar commanded.
With a nod of her head, Shimmerpaw scrambled up the rock to stand beside Wisteriastar. She looked to Wisteriastar for permission to speak. She nodded her head.
“After I returned from bringing back up for the battle, I was pinned down and the MistClan warrior Coldmist came out of the shadows with my best friend, Rowanpaw. He said that he would show us ‘MoonClan kittypets’ to give them what they want. He then proceeded to kill her. Him and his friend just left us their then.” Shimmerpaw finished up.
“Where is Coldmist?” Wisteriastar asked, her voice ringing through the clearing.
“He did not come to this Gathering.” Stormstar answered.
“Trying to protect him, are you?” Wisteriastar accused.
“Why would I need to protect someone who hasn’t done anything wrong?” Stormstar flexed his claws against the hard white stone.
Wisteriastar hissed as a response. Suddenly Autumnfield jumped up between the two leaders.
“Be forewarned, StarClan doesn’t not appreciate violence at Gatherings.” She spoke, flicking her tail to look at the sky.
A single drifting cloud was floating toward the moon, and omen from StarClan. The leaders let their fur lie flat and sheathed their claws.
“The Gathering is over.” Wisteriastar growled and jumped down from the rock.
Shimmerpaw and Autumnfield followed. Wisteriastar rounded up her clan and headed back toward camp.

Chapter 3
The cats arrived back at camp a little after moonhigh. Shimmerpaw headed straight to the apprentices den. Her head was spinning as she curled up next to Sootpaw. She drifted off into an uneasy sleep.
Shimmerpaw sat in an open area. The ground was dry, sandy, and cracked. There was a single tree, but it was dehydrated, twisted, and knotted. Shimmerpaw tried to move, but it felt as if she was glued to the spot.
“Shimmerpaw!” A voice whispered.
Shimmerpaw looked around frantically to find what had spoken the voice when a figure descended from the gray sky. Shimmerpaw recognized the figure as Rowanpaw, but she had a haunted look about her. Her pelt was the same color, but she had a faint glow to her.
“Rowanpaw!” Shimmerpaw purred.
Rowanpaw’s eyes held the same excitement as Shimmerpaw, but her face stayed the same serious expression.
“What’s wrong?” Shimmerpaw asked.
Rowanpaw looked to the side and then faced Shimmerpaw.
“Beware the enemy who is hidden by the mist.” she spoke, the started to fade.
“No! Rowanpaw! Wait! Don’t go!” Shimmerpaw said, struggling to break free of the invisible grip, but it was too late.
Rowanpaw was already gone. Suddenly Shimmerpaw was plunged into darkness. Though there was no water to be seen, she began to drown. She flexed out her arms and legs, but the water had already engulfed her.
Shimmerpaw awoke with a jolt. Sootpaw stood over her and prodded her again in the side.
“Are you ok Shimmerpaw? You were wailing like a kit.” he purred.
“I’m fine.” Shimmerpaw mumbled.
Her den mates were staring at her unphased. Of course, they didn’t believe her. She doesn’t have dreams often. Shimmerpaw stood up, grooming clumps of moss out of her fur before heading into the center of camp. The camp was washed in moonlight as she stared up at the clearly visible Silverpelt.
“Oh, Rowanpaw. What do you mean?”

Chapter 4
“Attack me.” Wisteriastar said.
Shimmerpaw pounced and aimed for her back, but missed. It had been a moon since Rowanpaw had spoken to her. Every once and a while, she thought about what Rowanpaw had meant, but the forest was peaceful and busy. Shimmerpaw slid underneath her mentor and pretended to score her belly with sheathed claws. This caught Wisteriastar by surprise. She let out a yowl and tried to roll over to avoid Shimmerpaw. Shimmerpaw took advantage and trapped her mentor to the ground.
“Very good!” She exclaimed as Shimmerpaw let her up.
Shimmerpaw smiled at the praise.
“Your training is progressing nicely. If you were older than nine moons, I could make you a warrior.” Wisteriastar stated.
Shimmerpaw joined Sootpaw after training for hunting under orders to get fresh kill for elders.
“Sootpaw, you remember the dream I had a moon ago?” Shimmerpaw asked, once they were away from any cat.
“Yeah. You said it was nothing.” He said concerned.
“I know. But it wasn’t nothing. I saw Rowanpaw.” Shimmerpaw said looking at the ground.
“Did she peak to you? What did she say?” Sootpaw asked suddenly.
“She said ‘Beware the enemy who is hidden in the mist’. I’m not sure what she meant.” Shimmerpaw said, stopping.
Before Sootpaw could reply, Shimmerpaw dropped into a hunting crouch and began stalking a vole. She neared it and pounced. She killed it in one swift blow and scraped some dirt over it so she could get it later. She suddenly spotted movement in the undergrowth. She dropped into a hunting crouch. She hoped it wasn’t smart, because she was downwind from it. She suddenly leaped, digging her claws into the animals flesh. The animal let out a yowl of pain and started struggling. At the moment, Shimmerpaw realized that it was Sootpaw. She sheathed her claws and climbed off him.
“Oh Sootpaw! Are you ok? I’m so sorry!” Shimmerpaw said looking at the ground.
“I’m ok.” He said, tense.
Shimmerpaw, of course, didn’t believe him. She started to lick his wounds, cleaning the blood off before sticking cobwebs on them she found earlier. To her surprise, he began to purr. Shimmerpaw felt heat begin to creep up her spine.
“I didn’t know you could fight like that!” Sootpaw exclaimed.
Shimmerpaw just looked away, still feeling bad for what she did.
The apprentices headed back to camp after a little more hunting. Shimmerpaw dragged the rabbit she caught earlier to Patchfur in the elders den.
“Hi Patchfur.” Shimmerpaw greeted dropping the vole in front of Patchfur.
“So you finally brought some fresh kill. I thought I’d drop dead from lack of energy.” she croaked.
“I got it here as fast as I could. I saved this one special since I knew you liked them.” Shimmerpaw purred.
“Show off!” Shimmerpaw heard Dandelionpaw whisper as she took fresh kill to Blacktail.
“You are right. I guess I could tell you a tale for the good ya’ done me.” Patchfur smiled.
Shimmerpaw settled down in front of Patchfur as took a big bite of vole.
“It happened many season’s ago, during leafbare. It was one of the worst leafbare’s we’ve ever had. The snow was so deep you couldn’t walk in it without your belly dragging through it. Prey was so scarce, that only the queens, elders, and kits could eat. The rest of us ate herbs and whatever else we could find. When our warriors resulted in stealing fish from the river in MistClan territory, MistClan was furious. They pretended not to know, hoping we would stop, but we didn’t. They decided they had, had enough after a moon and plotted against us. They launched their attack deep in the heart of leafbare. They attacked the camp directly and the battle was magnificent! Fur and claws flying and whirling. I was a warrior then. And, what’s his name, Coldmist? He was just an apprentice. He was bad, attacking the nursery. In fact, he stole one of our kits. I believe it was Brookekit. We never saw her again. Anyway, how was that for a story?” Patchfur asked once she was finished with her rabbit.
“Thank you Patchfur.” Shimmerpaw exiting the elders den.
Shimmerpaw sat in the center of the camp clearing and stared into the sky. There were dark clouds gathering over the horizon and a stiff, cold breeze cut through her fur. Had Patchfur told her that story for a reason?

Chapter 5
Sootpaw cuffed Shimmerpaw’s ear as she threw a bat at the side of his head. He managed to dodge while she didn’t. Shimmerpaw then pounced on top of Sootpaw, pinning him to the ground with her forepaw.
“Very good.” Graycloud complimented.
The two apprentices were having their assessment.
“Your training is going well.” Wisteriastar commented.
The two warriors padded towards camp and left the apprentices alone. It had been a couple moons since Patchfur had told Shimmerpaw her story. The days had already grown colder and yellow-tinted clouds were billowing in the north. A cold wind ruffled her fur and chilled her to the bone. Shimmerpaw hurried back to camp. She was supposed to help the queens today. She poked her head through the entrance and blinked a couple times to adjust to the darkness.
“Whisperwind, Honeycloud? I’m here.” Shimmerpaw called.
Shimmerpaw moved out of the way to let the two queens pass and their kits to follow.
“Hi Shimmerpaw!” Flowerkit, Honeycloud’s kit, greeted bouncing around her.
“Have you came to play with us?!” Vinekit asked excitedly.
“I’m tired…!” Quailkit wined opening her small mouth in a wide yawn.
“You need to get out and exercise.” Whisperwind told him and nudged him toward the other kits.
It took Shimmerpaw by surprise when Raintail crept out of the nursery.
“Raintail? Are you expecting kits?” Shimmerpaw asked.
“I’ve been expecting kits.” She informed the white apprentice.
Shimmerpaw stood feeling dumbfounded for a moment wondering why she hadn’t noticed before.
“I guess I’ll get to work.” Shimmerpaw said entering the nursery again.
The three of the four kits followed her as she drug the dirty moss out of the den and out of camp, clawing at the parts that dragged. Shimmerpaw finished up with the den by placing in clean moss.
“If you bring us some fresh kill, I can tell you something that you might want to know.” Honeycloud mewed as Shimmerpaw rushed off to the fresh kill pile.
She squeezed through the entrance to the nursery and dropped twosmall voles at the queens paws.
“Shimmerpaw, have you heard about your mother?” Honeycloud asked.
Shimmerpaw shook her head. Honeycloud was the oldest queen in the nursery. Did she by chance know about Shimmerpaw’s parents and the long lost past that she felt she would never know?

Chapter 6
“Well, I’m sure you have heard she was a great cat, yes? Your mother, Wildflower, is actually Wildstar. She was previous leader of MoonClan.” Honeycloud explained to the wide-eyed apprentice.
“Really?” Shimmerpaw asked.
She could hardly believe her mother was clan leader, but what happened to her?
“Yes really. She was a wonderful leader, brave and noble, willing to die for the clan. But isn’t that what every warrior feels? The problem with your mother is that, well, she dove head first into danger and refused to have help. That’s what used up most of her lives.”
“Is that what she died from?” Shimmerpaw asked curiously.
“No, no Shimmerpaw. Otherwise you wouldn’t have been born.” Whisperwind replied.
“Then what happened?” Shimmerpaw pressed.
“Your mother did the most foolish thing she could have possibly done during her leadership. She fell in love with the MistClan cat, Stormpool. He was rejected as it was because of his mixed blood of MistClan and SpiritClan, but obviously Wildstar saw something in him that other cats couldn’t. So they met in secret and eventually it came to where she was expecting you. She kept it a secret from everyone except me. We went off on patrol together one morning late in Greenleaf and that’s when you were born. Wildstar was on her last life and in giving birth to you, she gave up that life.” Honeycloud finished.
“So that’s what happened? Why didn’t someone tell me sooner?!” Shimmerpaw questioned.
“They left it up to me to decide when you were ready.” Honeycloud replied.
“What about my father, Stormpool? Where did he go?”
“No cat knows. He visited you as a tiny kit one day and then just disappeared. Many say that he became a loner.” Whisperwind mewed.
Shimmerpaw stood, shaking a few scraps of moss from her pelt.
“Thank you for sharing that with me. I must get back to my duties though. They don’t do themselves, you know!” Shimmerpaw said leaving the nursery.
Shimmerpaw padded out of camp to hunt for the fresh kill pile. As she crouched to stalk a rabbit, the same thought kept crossing her mind.
Where is my father now?

Chapter 7
Shimmerpaw woke with a jolt. Sootpaw was prodding her in her side sharply with his paw. She glanced up at the sky, guessing it was about moonhigh.
“What do you want Sootpaw?” Shimmerpaw growled at the young tom.
“Raintail is having her kits, she called you to be there.” Sootpaw explained laying down.
Shimmerpaw jumped up, not bothering with the debris clinging to her messy fur, and rushed to the nursery. She waited out side until red streaks began to spill into the clearing, almost ready to fall asleep. Autumnfield exited the nursery with her apprentice Reedpaw, weary, and motioned for Shimmerpaw to enter. Shimmerpaw squeezed into the small space. It was empty except for the silver tabby and three tiny kits huddled next to her belly.
“Raintail?” Shimmerpaw called softly.
“Shimmerpaw, is that you?” She asked.
“Yes. How are the kits?” Shimmerpaw asked settling down.
“Wonderful. They are all healthy she-cats.” She informed her.
“That’s great! Have you thought of what to name them?” Shimmerpaw asked.
“I thought about it a little, but I’m not sure yet. You should get back to your den now. I know I called for you but I didn’t think you would have to wait that long. I’ll see you later.” she said licking one of her kits.
“Goodbye.” Shimmerpaw said exiting and heading back to the apprentices den.
Shimmerpaw flopped down onto her bed of moss and let sleep take over before she could decide otherwise.
Shimmerpaw was suddenly floating in a dark void. After about a minute, she was in the exact same place as her last dream. A thick wind flattened Shimmerpaw’s white fur to her sides and caused her eyes to water. Shimmerpaw glanced around, hoping to find Rowanpaw, but the only sound that came out of the dull place was a rising wail. Shimmerpaw panicked and swung around, trying to detect what was making the terrifying sound. Then she spotted it. A silver tabby kit was sitting not to far away from her, it’s small pink mouth showing as it continued to cry. Shimmerpaw raced toward the kit, but never seemed to reach it. Shimmerpaw stopped to rest. The kit stopped wailing and gazed at Shimmerpaw with glowing blue eyes. Shimmerpaw matched the kit’s gaze and the wind picked up again, whispering over and over in Shimmerpaw’s ear. Beware the enemy who is hidden by the mist…

Chapter 8
“Raintail?” Shimmerpaw called poking her head in the nursery.
The only reply was the squeaks of her kits, Littlekit, Lunarkit, and Rosekit. They tumbled over each other playfully, but their mother was no where in sight. Shimmerpaw made her way through the rosebush tunnel and out into the woods. She dropped into a hunters crouch as she heard the scuffle of a nearby mouse. She stalked quietly but it somehow heard her and darted into the undergrowth. Shimmerpaw followed it but came to a grinding halt at the scene before her. A lump of twisted silver fur lay at the center of a small clearing. Shimmerpaw managed to shake off some of the shock to walk over to the heap of fur. She nudged it over until she could see the face of the dead cat. It was Raintail. Shimmerpaw let out a wail of grief before burying her nose in her friends fur. Shimmerpaw’s whole world froze. She could no longer feel her paws, as if she was floating. She grabbed Raintail by the scruff and drug her to the center of camp. Sudden gasps of shock and clusters of wide eyes burning through her fur. She huddled like a tiny kit beside it’s mother with her nose buried in Raintail’s fur.
“Who will care for her kits?” she heard Wisteriastar murmured sadly behind her.
“I will.” Shimmerpaw said sitting up.
“Very well.” Wisteriastar replied, “You will be excused from your apprentice training for the time being. The queens will help you.”
Shimmerpaw left the dead queen in the center of the camp and entered the nursery.

Chapter 9
Shimmerpaw shifted, remembering where she was. She propped herself up, not to disturb the three bundles of fur sleeping in the crook of her belly. They had been asleep since Shimmerpawhad entered the nursery. Wisteriastar left it up to her to tell the kits when they were ready. Shimmerpaw laid back down and sleep washed over her like a black wave.
Shimmerpaw opened her eyes to be in the center of camp. She looked around eagerly as if she expected something to be happening. Suddenly Littlekit emerged from the apprentices den. She looked to be six moons old, with wide blue eyes filled with excitement.
“Littlekit, what are you doing outside the nursery?” Shimmerpaw asked confused.
“What do you mean? I’m Littlepaw. Littlepaw.” she snapped.
“Oh, sorry.” Shimmerpaw replied, “When were you apprenticed?”
“What’s wrong with you, do you have bees in your brain? I was apprenticed this morning, remember? You were there. You even promised to take me on patrol!” Her eyes gleamed.
Shimmerpaw’s head spun.
“Ok then, lets go.” Shimmerpaw replied exiting camp, the thorns of the rose bushes tugging at her fur.
Shimmerpaw padded along the border with GhostClan near the Thunderpath.
“Smells awful, doesn’t it?” Shimmerpaw asked, wrinkling her nose.
“That’s so cool!” Littlepaw exclaimed.
“I’m gonna hunt for a minute. Don’t go near the Thunderpath.” Shimmerpaw warned before slipping through the bushes.
She froze the moment she reached the other side. Raintail was sitting in front of her with a worried expression on her face.
“Raintail? What are you doing?” Shimmerpaw asked in distress.
“Don’t let her go, Shimmerpaw! Don’t leave her!” she cried and flicked with her tail to where Shimmerpaw had left the white apprentice.
Shimmerpaw darted back through the undergrowth and towards the Thunderpath.
“Littlepaw! Littlepaw!” she called anxiously.
There was no response as an eerie silence set in. She cautiously approached the Thunderpath and peered across the hard black surface. Lying in the center of it was a heap of mangled and bloody white fur.
Shimmerpaw eyes flew open, but she did not dare move.
“Are you alright?” asked a voice.
Shimmerpaw turned to see Sootpaw staring at her with wide anxious blue eyes before bending over her to lick some of her ruffle fur.
“Fine.” was all she could managed without her voice giving her away.
Suddenly she came back to reality. The kits were missing!
“Wait! Where are the kits?!” Shimmerpaw cried.
“Calm down. Whisperwind took them out with her kits.” Sootpaw replied pushing a mouse towards her.
Shimmerpaw gulped it down in a few bites before stretching. After grooming a few bits of moss from her pelt, she exited the nursery. As soon as the sunlight struck her the rose bushes at the camps entrance rustled to a reveal strange cat entering. He let out a loud yowl and the wall behind him was stormed by many other cats. The camp was under attack.

Chapter 10
The queens rushed the kits into the nursery as fights began to break out. Shimmerpaw jumped at the nearest one, a bluish tom, while Sootpaw and Skypaw partnered up on a large black and white tom. The bluish tom shook her off. He was the first one in camp, obviously the leader. He was laced with scars and his blue eyes pierced Shimmerpaw’s fur. He raced toward the nursery, but Shimmerpaw blocked his way. She slid under him this time and scored her claws down the tender flesh of his belly. He yowled in pain and jumped back a tail length. Shimmerpaw charged at him but he dodged and landed a blow to her head, blurring her vision. She stumbled back for a moment until her vision cleared. By that time the rouge had reached the nursery. Shimmerpaw took off at full speed and jumped, landing directly on the tom’s back. He shook and shook, attempting to throw her off, but failing. Shimmerpaw bit down hard on his neck, causing him to yowl in pain and flee toward the bushes. Seeing their leader flee, the other cats broke apart and disappeared into the bushes.
“This is not over yet. I will get you.” The rouge hissed at Shimmerpaw before followed the others, leaving a silence over the camp.
