I have been trying to have a deeper relationship with God and have examined my heart recently. I read and study my word, pray, and try to worship often. And it all comes down to one problem:How can I move in God if I have no faith in myself and attack myself? My youth pastor's wife says it has to do with not having faith in God's word and what He says about me. Maybe someone could beat some sense into me or so I'd quit it, but any advice?

I have many friends that also have no faith in them selves and I'll tell you what I normally tell them. Sometimes learning to have self confidence is a huge step in ones life. In a way having no faith in yourself is like having no faith in God's creations, remember, he has created you and your wonderful personality. When God created man he pronounced it good, you are a magnificent being that God created, so as your youth pastor's wife said, you have to trust in God in when he says that his creation, you, is good and that you are blessed by God in wanting to grow more in your relationship with God. Now, one question, may I ask why you have no faith in yourself? If it's about lack of achievement or something can I tell you something, I heard this from a youth preacher and it has stuck with me ever since. PICK YOUSELF UP, DUST YOUSELF OFF AND TRY AGAIN, no matter how many times you fail, god has a plan for you. Hope that statment helps because it really worked wonders for me ^^ Oh whoops, one more thing, what do you mean by attack you self? attacking verbally? phisically? Well either way I will pray for you.

I wouldn't necessarily say a lack of faith in ones self is lack of faith in what God has to say. Explore where those feelings are coming from. Remember that the Bible is full of people who were less than confident about themselves.
Just a few examples:
Moses: Asked God why God chose him to deliver the Israelites, tried to get out of it by using excuses Abraham: Believed that he and his wife were too old to have any children (now is the father of the Christians, Jews and Muslims) Samuel: Believed he was too old to have a son. God made him mute until the birth of his son Peter: Took his eyes off of Jesus while walking on water causing him to sink. In another verse even told Jesus to go away from him because he was not worthy Judas: Didn't feel that he was worthy of being forgiven (I don't suggest following in his footsteps though)
Trust me the feeling of not being confident, you're not alone. I refuse to say that it's because you don't have faith in God because I disagree with that completely as I said look above all of them (with the exception of Judas) had faith in God. Christians struggle with these things just as much as anyone else does. What you need to do is take a look at yourself, in a mirror or elsewhere and simply say to yourself "God made you perfect the way you are" then live your life as if you believe that statement even if you're faking it. Eventually by pretending to have self confidence you'll gain self-confidence without even realizing it

Hmmm, now that Friar Thomas mentions that fact about faith I see his point...Though it kind of depends on the situation... Anyway, one more thing to note is sometimes (kind of as Friar Thomas said) your self confidence is built through a period of time, but its mainly also built through having friends, family, etc. This is one of the numerous reasons in why church and youth group is a great thing!

Hmm...I see what you guys mean. When I said attack, I meant verbally and I'm pretty mean to myself. However, Friar Thomas I have to say I'm not into pretending either. I spent a lot of my life pretending to be someone else and putting up false facades, and once they were destroyed I realized I couldn't go on without God. I have heard of people saying to tell try looking yourself in the mirror and doing that, maybe I need to try it.Your point about those in the bible were true. Thanks for the advice guys I really am grateful. : )

Something that we all go through and are going through is progressive sanctification: our journey to christ. Sometimes it seems like we're not moving, sometimes we seem to be learning the whole bible off by heart! Either way, progressive sanctification will definetly have ups and downs: times when we question our abilities, ourselves and the world we live in. At times you're gonna feel like your so high, so high... like at a christian movement, and you're so trusting in the lord to carry you across everything... its gonna stop. You're gonna move and you're gonna stop. There are people who never continue. So listen to those two: PICK YOURSELF UP, look at who you are and smile because you're not perfect, and never will be, but you're loved and you know what? You're loved by the highest, most amazing being...
Its not a matter of Faith, its not a matter of Hormones...its the fact that we're imperfect at times...but its awesome that we can all get though. Remember God's holding your right hand: not your youth ministers wife, not you, not anybody else. A blind man leading a blind man... but you and I are lead by the Creator. never forget that.
