Hello everyone. I'm doing a very important research paper in school on the discovery of dark matter and how to identify it. I already have most of my information, but anymore can't hurt. If anyone knows of any websites or books that could help me, they'd be greatly appreciated. Thank you for you time. smile

Hmmm....dark matter, eh? One random thing I know about it is that it can bend light and is what holds the galaxie (and all others) together. Without it, we would go flying into space!

Actually any matter bends light. The more massive an object, the more the light we observe coming from a source behind said object is bent.
Since we cannot see dark matter, the we can detect it when we see that light is being bent. That way we know there must be something massive there (and if we can't see it, then it's probably dark matter).

Also it's not dark matter that holds the galaxies together, but gravity. If there is a large concentration of dark matter, it exerts the force of gravity onto neighboring galaxies.

It's been theorized that dark energy is keeping the universe form expanding at an extremely accelerated pace, but that's another story.
