Ok, so I was watching the History channel (I believe it was a week ago) and they were featuring a 2-hour special about dragons. It was really interesting about how much dragons were involved in history around the world.

If you know anything about dragons in history, post something about it here 3nodding It'd be interesting to see what people come up with.

lets see, what i know about dragons....
-western countries(britain, etc) saw tem as satanic -chinese & japanese thought they represented yang(darkness i believe sweatdrop ) and brought them rain -dragons thought to be off shoot of dinosaurs -most thought to breath fire -supposedly lived hundreds of years -came in several forms: wyverns(no front legs), wyrms(no wings, and rear legs), mountain dragons, kites, lungs(four legs but no wings) -dragons in cold regions(Iceland) were smaller and didnt breath fire but a poison that had all the appereances of severe frost bite -flight bladders were needed because they were so large -fire breathing capable from hydrogen stored in flight bladders and platinum ore that they ate, when they met in the mouth, a valve closed the air passages and fire shot out, -hydrogen derived from the digfestive enzymes in their stomachs, the enzymes released hydrogen as a byproduct -if too much hyrogen was used, flight was impossible so it was used to quickly end a battle or for showing off -fire was used as a tool to burn off hides of mammals -dragon eggs had to be kept a certain temp or they would die -different ranges in temp caused different genders -dragons died out of overhunting by humans(again thought to be evil), too much distance between males and females and slow reproduction
WHEW! thats everything, and most of it is very debatable

a...fairy...dragon
ok, first those words should not be in the same SENTENCE unless the dragon is eating the fairy, let alone the two being related as to infer a cross between them
that is called twisted, wrong, and an abomination to nature

Wow, that is a huge list, hw250, though I don't see how some of it relates to the history of dragons.
Well, my favorite place to think about when it comes to dragons in history is Ancient Babylonia. Upon the great architecture known as the Ishtar Gate, there were three main reliefs repeated many times over. They were of lions, bulls, and dragons. The dragon upon the Gate was meant to symbolize the great dragon god, Marduk. Marduk was one of the principal deity's of Ancient Babylonia, and was celebrated and feared by the people. Even the newcomers to Babylon were frightened by the supposedly mythical beast god.

I think my favorite dragon is the Olde English dragon. I like the whole idea of wings rather than no wings.
I've never really found anything that distinguishes Marduk's gender. I believe it's better to leave Marduk an it; of course, as force of habit pushes me, I continuously call "its" he's. sweatdrop

a kite was a type of oriental dragon that had two large wings spanning from where the fore claws are supposed to be to the rear legs. They have a long, serpent like neck and tail.

I watched that special when it was on, found it quite interesting. I hope they make another one. until then, I'll just have to settle for playing dragon video games, and reading my books on dragons.
