Not sure if this has been brought up yet but I think that it's very cool.
So if anyone doesn't know about it here you go:
A group of American-Muslim youth, after reading a book by Micheal Muhammad Knight called The Taqwacores have started a muslim Hardcore scene.
The book is about a group of young Muslims in a punk band living in a run down house in some big city ghetto. Of course the book featured many taboos (rebellion, rock music, the female band member leading prayers).
This resulted in the books pages being scanned and spreading via the internet to several young Muslims who found inspiration to start the Muslim punk movement.
So yeah...any fans?

its nice to see when music, and music culture can inspire minor cultural refformations. or at least inspire the dissillusioned to actually do something about what they dont like. if its not activism at least its living the way they think they should, weather its with god's law in mind, or just plain lawlessness.
another hardcore scene in NYC has spurred up in the late 80s from harre krishnists. its pretty big now. calling it krishnacore. its pretty goofy... but another great example.
the cool thing about hare krishna hindu is that it bases a great deal of its prayer and penetence on dancing and singing, along side yoga and meditation. so its realy an obvious place for hardcore music culture to mutate into.

lulz @ krishnacore Taqwacore kind of just got their first anthem. A very Tongue in cheek song by the band Komina called Suicide bomb the GAP XD ALSO a movie version of the book is set to be released this year. It's very independent and it may have come out already. The band is called The Kominas, not Komina.
One the guys used to be in the goth band Malice In Leatherland
al Thawra is pretty good.
