Alright, I'll explain the basics of EV training since there are people here who don't know about it.

Table Of Content

I. Basic Info
II. Items
III. Vitamins
IV. PokéRus
V. Berries
VI. Exp. Share

I. Basic Info

the term "EV" stands for Effort Values. It's a number used to increase the stats of Pokémon. By understanding how to train, you can maximize the strength of your Pokémon. The maximum amount of EVs you can have is 510. Every 4 EV points increases your stat point by 1. For one stat, you can have a total of 255 EV points. Since this is not dividable by 4, the closest you can get is 252.

252EVs 4 = 63 stat points.

Each Wild & In Game Trainer Pokémon will give you a certain amount of EVs in a certain stat when you defeat it. For example, the Pokémon Bidoof will give you 1 HP EV. So if I were to beat 4 Bidoofs, in theory I would have increase my HP stat by 1.

II. Items

There are a number of items that can help boost your EV points. They are listed below:

Macho Brace: When holding this, your Pokémon's earned EV will be multiplied by doubled per Pokémon beaten. (Example: Bidoof will give me 2HP EVs instead of 1.) Also, your speed stat is halved in battle, so be wary.

Power Items will give you 4 Extra EVs, along with what you'd get normally. (Example: After fighting a Bidoof your Pokémon will gain 5 HP EVs by holding a Power Weight. 4 from the item, and 1 normally.) Also, like the Macho Brace, the items will reduce your Speed stat by half in battle. Here are the items in detail.

Power Weight: Adds 4 Extra HP EVs.
Power Bracer: Adds 4 Extra Attack EVs.
Power Belt: Adds 4 Extra Defense EVs.
Power Lens: Adds 4 Extra Special Attack EVs.
Power Band: Add 4 Extra Special Defense EVs.
Power Anklet: Add 4 Extra Speed EVs.

III. Vitamins

Vitamins are out of battle items that can be used to increase your EV points. Although, you can only use 10 Vitamins per Stat. Anything after the 100 EV point mark, you can't use the Vitamin for that stat.

HP Up: Increases HP by 10 EVs
Protein: Increases Attack by 10 EVs
Iron: Increases Defense by 10 EVs
Carbos : Increases Speed by 10 EVs
Calcium: Increases Special Attack by 10 EVs
Zinc: Increases Special Defense by 10 EVs

IV. PokéRus

In the game, theres a certain condition known as the PokéRus. It can be only be obtained by wild Pokémon battles. The actual percentage of getting the virus is very slim, but if you do manage to get it, the amount of EVs you obtain per battle is doubled. (Example: If you have fought a Bidoof, you would obtain 2 HP EV points instead of 1 normally.) This can be very helpful, because it also doubles the amount of points given by the items.

Example:
Bidoof would give 10 HP EV points to a Pokémon with the Power Weight equipped. Breaking it down it would look like this:
*1 HP EV Given Normally
*4 HP EVs Given with the Power Weight
*Multiply it by 2 because of the PokéRus

V. Berries

There's a way to subtract EV points as well. Much like the vitamins, certain berries can be used outside of battle to subtract the EV points. If your EV stat is over 100, the first EV berry will drop it to 100 regardless of number. Any berry used after that will subtract it by 10. So all you would have to use is 11 berries in one stat in order to wipe all the EVs completely. The berries are listed below:

Pomeg Berry: Lowers HP EVs by 10
Kelpsy Berry: Lower Attack EVs by 10
Qualot Berry: Lowers Defense EVs by 10
Hondew Berry: Lowers Special Attack EVs by 10
Grepa Berry: Lowers Special Defense EVs by 10
Tamato Berry: Lowers Speed EVs by 10

VI. Exp. Share

Each Pokémon that has the Exp. Share will recieve the NORMAL amount of EVs given from the Pokémon that has been beaten. So even if the Pokémon who battles is holding a Macho Brace or a Power item, the one holding the Exp. Share will still get the normal amount of EVs.

Example: A Dragonite with a Power Anklet defeats one Bidoof in battle while a Machop is holding an Exp. Share.
*Dragonite will get 4 Speed EVs and 1 HP EV
*Machop will get 1 HP EV

Note: If a Pokémon is infected with PokéRus and holds the Exp. Share it will receive double the amount of EVs it would normally have gotten. So the Machop in the example would have gotten 2 HP EVs if it had the virus.

Thanks for reading the EV training guide. Hope this didn't confuse anyone. sweatdrop If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me. I'll respond to you as soon as I get the chance, thanks again! smile
