So, when I was younger, I had developed hearty interest in herbalism. For various reasons I was not able to pursue it at a younger age. However, my interest uninhibited warrants me stepping forward with something that I really wish I would have continued with whilst younger.
So as such, taking the little bit I remembered, I've been expanding my knowledge, exploring resources, and am taking bounds forward in the subject.
My question here is: Do you have any recommendations, or any helpful hints to help me entering into this field.
I've been doing a lot of researching. I currently have a few books in my possession on the subject.
Are there any must have reads that I should get on the subject?
Are there any definite tools I will need? (Currently, all I have is a mortar and pestle, and am planning on getting an herb mill, amongst other things).
Are there any major tips you might have about the subject? I.e. I was reading through one of my books "The Way of Herbs" by Michael Tierra, and it mentioned an older couple who picked what they thought was Comfrey, but actually ended up being Foxglove. After-wards, they brewed a tea of it, which proved to be fatal. Obviously, I wouldn't want to run into an even remotely similar situation.
I guess as an overall, I'm just looking for tips.
At any rate though, thank you all for your time!

A good way to avoid mix ups is to get yourself a field guide to medicinal and wild herbs that grow in your region. Try to find one with photos and very detailed descriptions. Are you planning on collecting in the wild or planting an herb garden?

That's definitely something I'm looking into. I'm just having trouble deciding as our local bookstore just closed, so I have to search the internet articles. :
I'm planning on doing a little bit of both actually. Of course, I need to wait until the weather starts to get better and all. So I might start off growing a few. 3nodding

Another thing to check into would be any botanical gardens within a days drive. They sometimes offer herb walks or similar in spring and early summer that are open to the public.

Oh very exciting. Nothing helpful to offer, just wanted to say I'm excited to see the results of your exploration!

MercyWild Another thing to check into would be any botanical gardens within a days drive. They sometimes offer herb walks or similar in spring and early summer that are open to the public. A friend suggested something to that nature. We weren't sure if that was an actuality; more assuming really. It's something I really want to look into though, I think it would be a very informative experience. And let's face it, brewing a cup of foxglove tea is bad news bears.Viscerim Oh very exciting. (off-note)By the way, we should get-together some time relatively soon.

I'd love to know more about herbs. I've never really had a 'green thumb' biggrin (despite being an earth sign and green being my favourite colour) but I always thought herbalism would be interesting. I'm actually trying to find some sage and lavender right now, but I hear that lavender is really strongly scented so I couldn't bring it home, my dad's got allergies.

Why are you interested in lavender? I might be able to suggest a substitute for it depending on the purpose. A few of the members of my circle are highly allergic to lavender so I have had to learn and come up with other options over the years.
