Dragon Quest had a Ballet.

That's right. In 1995, Ballet Dragon Quest was introduced to Japanese theaters and performed each year thereafter. It was performed by the Star Dancers Ballet and includes Sugiyama's music from the first five games, performed by the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra.

Most of it can be viewed on Youtube. Copies on DVD can be bought as well, but to my dismay, they are quite expensive.

I don't claim to be an expert on ballet, but I do appreciate it, as well as watch it. And I have this to say:

From what I've seen, it is a very good ballet with one huge problem.
My main problem with it is that it falls into a pitfall that lots of ballets fall into. Too much story, not enough dancing. When they dance, they dance really, really well. But there are parts of the ballet that feel broken up because the characters are interacting. We can't hear them, because they don't talk. They must dance to convey their emotions! Isn't that what ballet is all about?
In a similar vein; Torneko. They put him in there for a little fanservice, as he is very popular in Japan. But by his very nature, Torneko isn't the least bit graceful. So when I see him on stage, he takes the grace out of the other performers! WHY?

But enough harping. Because I really do love this ballet. And not just because I am a raving Dragon Quest fan. But as a raving Dragon Quest fan, I loved how the music from the games was put to use. The musical timing was, for the most part, perfect. The tone actually reminds me most of the first three games more than anything else. And that is so deliciously nostalgic.

And, believe it or not, this is a very manly ballet.
Before you go "no freaking way," consider the following:
To be a ballet dancer, one must be very, very fit and toned. They must be light, flexible, and strong. Especially in the core muscles, so that they can hold their positions and lift each other.

Now apply that to the fact that most of the cast consists of men, and that there are some well choreographed soldier scenes, my favorite on which can be viewed on my Gaia profile. And the fact that these men are secure enough in their masculinity to swordfight while wearing tights and still look badass. And you've got a recipe for awesome. When they dance, they dance really well. And they put their amazing physiques to use.

Enough out of me. What are your thoughts?

Well, it's kind of common that Japan does has ballets/musicals/etc on videogames or anime series. And the fact that they are done to please both the fan base and the general public, they are usually outstanding.

Now, I think since the begining you mentiones FF, I will asume that this topic is to discuss about why FF doesn't has one? User Image

The only reason would be that the jumping and that would be quite dificult - something that it's a basic in FF xd

Oh, no no. I just made the title to attract more attention. I think it leads into the discussion well. It's just a weird thing about me.

I just think having a ballet is more flattering than having two movies, one sub-par and the other a major box office bomb.

And Lyle, if you are honing in on my mention of "manly" that was just to offer a point of reference. It has that sort of vibe, and I would describe other things similarly. I didn't think it was sexyfine or anything. I like it for the cast dancing very well in the name of one of my favorite series. I loved watching them dance and jump like I could never ever do.

Say, Demonic Angel, what other games have ballets?
