Psychosele: March of the Imperium CHAPTER I
In a time from long before we can remember, the planet was settled. A vast nation spread itself across the stars, and thus Remus was founded. But then, the Age of Darkness came. The world was once covered with colonists, all serving together joyously, but they all lost connection with each other. The colonies fell into ruin, and few survived the following disaster. The vast nation of the stars abandoned the planet, in order to fight the great enemy, and that enemy sent vanguard troops to the planet, destroying many of the peaceful colonies before being repulsed. The great enemy was never seen again, but the colonies lost all contact with each other, and over the centuries, empires were build, and other came into ruin.
But now is the Age of Expansion, as the Venerable Imperiator has commanded his armies to venture to the Wastes and conquer them in His name. His lands reign from the Great Sea in the South and East to the Ematian Mountains in the West. Those are set and defined limits, but to the North, is another story. A series of forts were constructed along the northern border, as that any settlements were left ghost towns, and scout parties never return. The Imperium is composed mainly of wastes and deserts, but to this northern land, there is life; vast forests and fields and meadows cover it, making a much better land for acquiring food.
Therein lies the problem however, you can't just march up there and take the lands and use them as your own; That is why these series of fortifications were constructed. The Menace. That is all that they are known by, as that is all they are, a menace, a nightmare really. Any encounter disturbs even the resolute Imperial soldiers. And encounters have escalated. It seems that they are pushing for war, so the Imperiator has decided, why don't we push back...

THE CHAPTER BEGINS...
In the Northern Front. His most Glorious armies, that of the Imperium, had been sent to repel and hopefully take the lands of that most dreaded enemy, those known only as the Menace. But before large armies could be mustered and sent to the aid of the defending fortifications and boundaries, the existing troops where told to dig in and defend the border. And that is what they did, quite literally. Expansive trench networks were formed to defend greater territories than a few castles would have provided. It could be an understatement that the soldiers were unhappy with the conditions. It was constantly dry and all they had to do is sit in a ditch and examine the horizon. Food was harder to distribute, and there was nowhere to attend to personal hygiene, but this was of no consequence in comparison to the horrors that await them. Men would go missing in the night, most often when they went to go take a leak, giving rise to many a joke about never coming back from relieving themselves. But alas, it was no laughing matter. Soon, the War would begin. Armies of the Menace attacked lines along the trench, taking men screaming into the night. In some areas, the defenders were able to repel the attacker, but in other areas, all contact was lost. When troops were sent to retake the area, they either found it empty, or they themselves went missing. And thus, to save scarce resources and limited men, lines were no longer reinforced. But the Imperium's military would be here soon, they would retake the entire front soon, but would it be soon enough?
The battle-bunker Namus Rock would be a key point in the defense of the Northern Front. The trench networks on either side of it had been taken, and if it was taken, then not only would that give enough room for the Menace to launch a full scale invasion, but also supply lines to the eastern third of the front would be completely cut off, thus leaving much of the country undefended. Here a decisive victory must be won. Here a stand must be made. Here the Menace must be repelled into whatever Hell they came from. The Commanding Officer of Namus Rock, a man named Major Contectius, was luckily a brilliant strategist. He had the middle section of the land in front of the trenches and areas beside them covered in landmines, forcing the enemy into two groups. Any large groups of soldiers would be hit with artillery and either scattered or decimated, weakening them. That takes care of generalized infantry. However, he knew that the Menace had at their disposal some more... unconventional soldiers, who with their great agility and auspex could pass through the minefields unharmed. And for them, he had a small contingency of the Black Hand, numbering only about half a dozen. They were elite close-combat fighters, and where designed to encage in close quarters. Having them face off against general infantry however, would likely get them killed. Two of them where placed at base of each of the minefields, and where to take out any of the men who made it through. The leader of these men was a man named Thanni, and he would be issuing orders as a field officer for the area. The battle was expected to be long, grueling, gritty, dirty, bloody, and god-damned near anything else that you wouldn't want from a battle. But it must be fought, and this battle would prove a decisive win for either side. New territory for the Menace, but for the Imperium, the survival of millions counted on this battle. In the name of the Imperiator the soldiers do pray.

Kyle used to live in dirt, now he'll crawl in it once more. He was in his uniform with other soldiers whispering about him behind his back on the transport. He finally turned around, " OK, ladies! Listen, I'm here for a personal reason! Yes, it's true. SOME RICH GUYS CAN FIGHT! THEY CAN GET DIRTY! So, if you wanna ask me questions.....ask it to my FACE! Not to the guys next to you because THEY CAN'T ANSWER!" He turned back around. No one ever said anything after that. He hoped they would look at him like a brother soon. Because they were a Band of Brothers.
The transport soon arrived at Namus Rock. Kyle got off the bus and was told to report to the trenches because the enemy was in sight. He grabbed a rifle from the armory.....one with a grenade laucher, a pistol, and 6 hand grenades. He was ready!
After he was suited up, him and the other new arrivals were told to line up as the Major came out. The Major walked out of the complex, " OK CHERRIES! THE ENEMY IS COMING! YOU ARE GOING TO THOSE TRENCHES! AND YOUR GOING TO LOOK OUT FOR THE GUYS ON YOUR RIGHT AND ON YOUR LEFT. UNDERSTOOD? GOOD! THAT MEANS THAT ALL POTTY BREAKS ARE NOW! SO IF YOU GOTTA TAKE A PISS OUT THERE," He points the the man next to me, " HE HELPS! GOT IT? O MY GOD!" He looks at me with a smile. " LOOK EVERYONE.......WE GOT A PRETTY BOY HERE. You, boy, are going to the front line."
In response I cocked my rifle and said, " With pleasure sure. Pretty Boy is gonna kick some a**." Like he said eariler, he wanted to kill those bastards. His name just made that a possibilty.
The Major told us that we could go out into our battle stations so I filled up on ammo and also stuck extra ammo in my helmet, boots, anywhere I could in case some of the trenches behind us were overrun and the supply lines were cut off. I jogged up to the front line and waited. I looked thorough my optic scope searched for a glipse of movement. This front line wasn't going to collapse.

A huge mass of menace were on their way towards the front line. Carlos looked through the scope of his rifle. "Bang, bang," he said as the barrel moved from one menace to another. They were clearly out of range but Carlos was just waiting. As soon as they hit range he would take them out as soon as he could. Hearing the new regiment come in he looked down towards the group. Seeing the one in front he thought, Is that...no can't be. A rich brat like him? Here? He still had a puzzled look on his face as he tried to figure out if and why he would be here. Sighing he said, "Is this what we're reduced down to. Rich brats trying to look like heroes." He looked through the scope again as the menace kept closing in. With a slight grin he flipped the safety off. "Almost show time," he said as he went to his sidearm and checked it's clip.

When Kyle got ready he was next to a man and he said, " I saw your look as I came up. Let's just say rich boys get get dirty." He turned his head to the man, " Well, you obviously know my name, what's yours? I hope the Major gave you the same speech he did us new recurits........if not........just don't tell me you gotta piss during this thing."

Carlos gave an odd look at the rich boy. He had in fact not heard the speech earlier, he was at the front waiting for about a week now and the menace were thin in numbers until now. Shrugging it off he said without taking his eye off of the scope, "Corporal Carlos Sanchez." The menace were drawing ever closer and Carlos' grin got wider as they approached. He finally put his rifle down and flipped the safety back on. Taking a big sigh he looked back down from his perch to Kyle. "Grr, they're still out of range."

"Nice to meet you Mr. Sanchez." He now got out his weapon. It was a rifle with a barrell over top of it for grenades. " I created her. That's what I did when I got bored at home as a child. I call her the Mark 117."
Mark 117 Rifle//Grenade Launcher-Reliable 30 round clip-1/3 round burst and full auto of 10mm//5 round clip of 40mm HE/WP/FRAG. Demolition Experts ONLY!
He didn't even bother putting the saftey off or even flipping it on or off, seeing that Carlos had put his off. " And let's hope that stay out of range and away from this God-forsaken front line until we get some reinforcements!"

An eerie fog began to settle across the land, coming from yonder forest, whither here is now, hiding away the troops which advanced upon those resting here. Damnable fiends. Now only can he sit and wait, watch for them to come through the darkness. Last viewed, they were minutes away from being in range, but now, now they cannot be seen, they're putting making our battlefield their own, putting the fight into close combat. The fog was horrible, it let off a foul stench of decay, and could not be seen through more than fifteen or twenty feet. Horror indeed. Things look grim.
But none of this mattered, all that did was the task at hand; defending Namus Rock. And that is what he would do. Thanni stands to his full height to get a good view of the battlefield ahead of him, mainly into the minefields in front of him, and turns on an infrared to see if could sight himself an assailant. All that was seen however, was a burst of heat flowing from his right. Flowing, liquid, blood. He turned his head sharply to his right and... nothing. Only a dead corpse. How could this be? He decided to trust his eyes, and switched all filters off. How fortunate was this, as that he was staring directly into the eyes of the enemy. A soldier covering cloth, a metal mask covering his face, and wicked long daggers gracing each hand. He is covered with blood. Blood of an ally now laying dead on the ground.
There is no time for though, strategy, tact, anything. Only instinct may take over and prove to save you in a time like this. Saar raised his rifle to put a slug square in the mans face, but he was quite with haste. The rifle was slapped aside with one of the blades, but as the man closed in, he received a kick to the ribs, sending him back a few feet. The cloth was ripped, revealing metal cuirass underneath. However, the soldier was deterred not, and had back at Saar, taking a few steps along the wall of the trench, jumping at him off the wall, blades estranged. This however, gave Thanni enough time to pull out his pistol and put three rounds into his face and throat. Two hit the face mask, putting dents in it, but the other hit him square in the throat, from which he now bled profusely.
This did nothing however. He was at his knees, and Thanni turned his attention back to the minefield, looking for more soldiers to come. But what happened was that when he glanced down at the dying soldier, he was not there. Two long blades instead came before him, in front of his throat very own. Again, instinct came into play. He shoved his head back, ramming the back of his helmet into the mans mask, and grabbing his wrists, throwing him off to one side, but still holding on to one of the wrists. As the soldier tried to reorient himself, Thanni smiled and drew his own knife, swiftly bringing it down and slicing off the mans hand. He instantly withdrew and spread his legs, readying himself into a battle stance. However, it was evident that too much blood had now entered his lungs, and he staggered, and soon fell to the ground.
Just to be safe, Thanni walked over and stabbed with his knife into the left eye slit, then pushed the body off to the side. He then picked up his shotgun and resumed his watch over the field and spoke over his vox to command, "Black Hand Saar reporting. Some if not all of them cannot be seen with an infrared sensor, and they seem to have an unusual degree of constitution, unlike any that I have seen." He was soon responded to with, "Saar, this is command. Your report has been noted." Silence.

Nodding in agreement, Carlos still was slightly agitated that they weren't in the fight yet. Placing his eye back over the scope he watched the menace. Suddenly a haze of smoke started to hide everything around. Taking his eye from the scope he noticed that a thick fog had suddenly fallen upon Namus Rock. "Just great," he shouted aloud. Estimating his sight distance it was somewhere around fifteen to twenty feet around.
Carlos started to pull out the ISCK as he looked towards Kyle. "Well, we'll soon see just how dirty you rich boys can get." He stood up and jumped off his perch and listened. The creepiest thing was, there was no sound other than the Imperium men moving slowly with fear across their faces.

The worst part of being in a brotherhood, which is what the men were in, is that even if you personally didn't do anything to the enemy they woud kill you. Kyle saw the fog come in and wondered if it was created my the Menace or if it was the most odd and inconveitant concincidance one is this situation could have. He, using common sense, was going to turn on his infrared vision but he then heard the report over the radio and refrained from it. He heard the comment from Carlos and responded to himself, " Yes, yes we will see...who gets more kills." But the only audable response was the cocking of his grenade launcher and the flicking of his saftey. Showtime has come. Kyle didn't feel nervous. Why you say? Because he was too scared to feel anything and the gunshots nearby didn't help.
