Well. I think that if there is evidence that says "Hey the dumb a** did it" And its a crime that he or she should be put to death for, or given life in prison and their crime was something harsh.
Like a serial killer... I honestly think they should be punished in the worst way possible. A slow and painful death. Something that would give them the pain of all the people they had hurt....

And if that pain of all the people they had hurt was merely constituting a bullet to the brain pan, do they deserve that? Or more?
Do you consider them worthy of an alternate punishment? Say...ten stripes at a public flogging?

more i think. i dont think our would would appreciate such punishments. but personally, i think they learned better when there was physical punishment involved.
Our prisoners are spoiled. My cousin worked in one. He was telling us how they were using a bunch of money to build rec rooms for the prisoners. That they have days of the month when fast food places come in and feed them all. They get a warm bed to sleep in. Three meals a day. And they dont have to pay rent. I mean... is it just me or do prisoners get free living for the crimes they have done?

You can think about it fiscally, as well. It costs approx. $50,000 a year to keep 1 inmate in maximum security. Bullets and electric chairs no doubt cost a lot less.

But what about the appeals and lawyers? Those really start to add up, as well. Not to mention the costs of the supervising physicians, medical equipment, lethal injection drugs, et cetra.

for lawyers and stuff, its just getting money back into the system, unless the squirrel it away somewhere. Human nature is, when you get money, you spend it. same with your little list of stuff. But I guess that can go both ways.

I don't think capital punishment should be about punishment. If they're being killed, they are then free from the punishment aspect. I like to think of it more in terms of "because of what the've done, they aren't ever getting out, let's save space, time and effort and just get rid of them."

Whether or not it is a punishment is expressly left to a person's personal belief. The idea of death being a punishment was convinced back when atheism wasn't such a rampant, popular belief. Meaning that the lowly mortals couldn't handle such a sinner, so it was evolved up to the High Authorities to do with as He saw fit.
On the other hand: it is entirely possible that a Capital Punishment convict was innocent.

Interesting, I never thought about it that way before. And yes, those poor innocent bastards. *sigh* Can't change the past, best change the present.
