Anyone have any thoughts on the series or seen it?
the series is a very controversial series in that it uses Judeo-Christian and Buddhist images and terms and it also uses Freudian and physiological terms as well.
it's set in 2015 after a giant meteor strikes the south pole which is referred to as the second impact awakening a giant being referred to as Adam. 15 year old Shinji Ikari is summoned by his dad, the commander of a secretive UN agency called NERV to fight giant beings called angels using a giant mecha called Evangelion, after a while Shinji learns that there are more children like him such as Rei Ayanami, and Asuka Langley Soryu.
the story gets more bizarre and the plot takes a turn during the story as character's psyche are examined. the people involved in the creation of the series said that if they knew it would become so popular in America they probably wouldn't have used all the religious imagery.

this scene is from the Rebuild of Evangelion movies but its pretty much the same as in the TV series.

Brilliant Anime, took me at least three watches of the series to still really get all the Religious references, truly spectacular.
