So LoSI’s taken off again and everyone seems ready to bring in some fresh meat. My question to you is: what are your ideas on how to do it? I figure we’re going to stick to the usual methods.

A recruitment thread – This is the biggie. Reenact the old one? Start a new one? I think this has been talked about before and we concluded that a new thread would go along with LoSI’s thematic new start. So how would we set it up? This is our most recent one. They take a lot of help from all the guild members, especially now that our 4 leaders have dwindled down to 1. But you were all very good about that last time.

Single Thread RPs– This is unique to LoSI, as far as I know. I really like the idea, but I’m biased… because I made it up. People didn’t really jump about it when it first came out, but there was some interest.

Checking out similar guilds/RPs – I’ve done this before, skimming through the GGN or Barton Town looking for superhero RPs or otherwise good members. It’s not always the most reliable method, because we’re going to them rather than them coming to us out of their own interest. But it’s an idea.

Inviting friends – We’ve gotten a lot of great members in the past from people who invited their friends – often times real life ones – to LoSI. If anyone wants to do that, it’d be great. Actually, the first LoSI attempt was a small movement by Atrox, Nevi, MU, and some real life friends.

Any other ideas? Or comments about these ones?

Alrighty.... In order... or something... On ones I have comments about...

Recruit Thread - Like I think Nicole had said earlier, an old thread might deter some possible 'cruits because of it being old. They might think we're fairly inactive...or something. I'd say a new thread would be a good idea and I'd be willing to help set it up as long as I'm not the only one. sweatdrop

Single Thread RPs - It sounds like a good idea but I probably wouldn't partake in this option... Mainly just because I easily get confused in these threads... That's really the only reason.... heh heh... sweatdrop

Inviting Friends - Sounds like a good idea! But most of friends have either dropped off the face of GaiaOnline or are probably not interested in a superhero RP.... I'll ask those that are kinda active though.... Hm....

For the recruitment thread, I don't want anyone doing it entirely alone. I just feel like it has to be a group effort to succeed as well as it did last time. Thanks for offering to help, though. That's a big relief.

And for Single Thread RPs - They are big responsibilities (especially if you choose to run one yourself), so don't feel pressured to take part in one. But what about them confuses you?

I believe that we should create a new recruitement thread and similar to the old one have people try out to get in but also show our own characters and maybe include a summary of things that have happened in LoSI thus far.

I don't know... Mostly having all the locations all in one thread and.... I just like the orginization of Guilds better.... It's neater... *shrug*

funny I always thought that the multi location overwhelm of this style of guild would be more confusing. But then I spent a few years doing single thread rping before Saint got the dough together for the first LoSI.

Single-Thread RPs can be simultainously rewarding and frustrating as hell. For an example, take Unsung. This RP was designed to establish some background for LoSI and also bring in new members. It was both a success and a failure in those regards, but it taught me an important Role-Playing rule: Always screen your RPers. For an example of why, look at the character "amber."

I think a new recruitment thread is our best bet. I agree that the old one will deter members simply because it's so old (I speak from experience--I have refused to join guilds that look cool simply because their recruitment threads are old; it's an indication of inactivity). An individual RP would be ideal, because we can get firsthand experience of roleplayers' skill before letting them into the guild. However, it's a big commitment of time (which, being a busy college student, I, for one, don't have much of), and in this stage it might not be the most promising option.

Alma - That makes sense.

Amber was the basis of a fantastic conversation between us, Trox. Remember?

So everyone seems to like the new recruitment thread idea. I think that's a go. So the new questions are, how do we set it up? and what do we require of new members?

I don't think the summary, if you think we need one, has to be too detailed (since big summaries would scare me away, unless it's spectacularly written). I think a summary should basically be something that says, "Don't worry about the specific happenings in our guild. Our plot makes it so that someone new can join in at anytime." Summaries, in my experience, rarely get tended to or updated.

The first post needs to introduce our unique set-up to everyone, and make all the steps of joining very clear, but not frightening.

Angelic Turtle - A lot of people ask for RPing examples. What if we just ask them to link to an RP they've been in, or if they're new to RPing, submit something short and original, in order to get a feel for their literacy?

---

As for single thread RPs - should we keep them as is, optional, and only a secondary method of recruiting?

We need some more ideas on how you want this done.

Who wants to contribute posts in the recruitment thread?
What type of posts should we have?

I kinda feel this thread needs some love.... heh...

Anyway, I'd be willing to post in the 'cruit thread if told what to say... o_o' I just don't want to post the wrong thing.

And I think structuring it similar to the old one would be fine. It was set up well it's just that its age may deter people that may think it is inactive, thus thinking LoSI is inactive.

I'll take a closer look at the old thread.

Thanks for posting. This discussion could use a lot of love...
