Hello, I'm Elli, A mod for this guild. I am hereby building this step-by-step program to help you make somthing from nothing.

Please don't post in this thread, this is just my little helpful tips on how you can make it big in the world of Gaia.

Having Joined Gaia in July 2005, I haven't been here too long, and still have managed to bring myself up from a newbie in rags, to a guild owner with hundreds of thousands of gold in items and gold, as well as having donated thousands of gold and items to needy people as well.

Please don't look at this as me showing off, I just know what I'm doing

Now, I know this make me seem like a cold heartless person that only uses people to get gold, but it's not like that at all... These are just things that have helped me gain as much as I have

The reason I'm splitting up this list:
I'm prone to think of more things and add them in later. When this happens sometimes my posts get REALY long, so I split this list up so it can easily span more pages if needed.

Step 1.:
Sell your rags.

Naked avi's look better anyhow, make a mule and sell their rags too.
No one at the market place is stupid enough to buy rags, so sell them at the stores.

Take the potential gold loss here instead of trying to dupe some n00b into buying crap.

Step 2.:
Play games

A shovel costs 100 gold in the flower shop
A net costs 100 gold in the fishing store

Both these things can be used in the town to catch limetless bugs and pick limetless flowers.
You Get these for free, forever, so don't be greedy, start bids at 1 gold, if people want it, you'll make a profit, if no one buys it, get more of the same thing and try again with more of the item

Also gamble.

Making 1000 tickets can be done with as little as 200 gold depending on your luck.

Always try to sell in bundles of 1000 tickets, you will always make a profit, and most people will be able to bid on the bundle.

I've seen people try to sell giant bundles of 10k tickets and they just sat there collecting dust, because that many tickets costs too much to sell cheap.

I've personally never been able to fish, I have a touchscreen mouse, so PM me if you are a good fisher and can give me the ins and outs of fishing.

Step 3.:
Chatterbox = Fastest gold I've ever made

In the chatterbox there are so many contests, bump threads, and polls that it's imposable to go there without making gold.

Do as many polls as your fingers can handle, chat with as many people as you can.

Step 4.:
Clevage is a mans best friend

I hate to say this, but I've used my cuteness in order to sell things. If you're female use your cuteness to your advantage.
"Oh, thanks so much" *Kiss* heart

This works so often, but don't tell anyone I told you this redface sweatdrop

Step 5.:
Never, and I mean NEVER beg

Begging usually only makes people mad. Just calmly let your friends know that you want an item and put it in your signature. Mention it off hand every now and again, to remind people that you're interested and sooner or later you'll get it.

Step 6.:
Donate to others

Make a donation thread where you give out your own hard earned gold, and ask for donations to further the advancement of said thread. People are more than happy to donate so long as they know it's going toward further donations, or even just to someone who isn't greedy.

Step 7.:
Donation items = easy gold

(Donation items are sealed envilopes, or [whatever month](Whatever year) items
When donation items come out, they are normally priced pretty cheap (anywhere from 3k-6k gold. try to pick a few up when they are first released, then hold on to them for a month or 2 at least before selling them.
Example: The coco kitty plushie.
I bought 4 of these for 3k each, and now they are at 9k in the marketplace.

Either that or buy a bunch by donating to gaia. $2.50 isn't much to spend in order to make 9k 2 months later

Also, report any and all gliches. This one time I went to change my new homepage (the new one) and I ACTUALLY accessed Rina's profile. I reported it to her and the mods, and got last month's donation item for free.

Step 8.:
Enter Avi contests

Even if you think you'll lose. I've entered avi contests and lost just because it looks like I have too much gold.

If posable, try to keep to the 1 on 1 avi contests, and ask your friends to vote for you, but make sure they make it look like they "Happened" to find you in that thread, otherwise the contest holders will accuse you of cheating.

Step 9.:
Hold Avi contests

Now, I know alot of people do this, but Gaians seem to like thinking that theirs is the best avitar.
Also, make sure that all your contestants are required to have a linked banner in their signature as part of the contest rules.

Visit every bump thread you can, and have your bump linked to the contest thread. If you don't know how here is a basic code:

[url] {replace this including the brackets with the address of your contest} ] Bump (Or the img thing for your banner) [/url]

Step 10.:
Buy low, sell High

Now I know that this is the whole point to this guild, but here are some helpful tips to see what is low, and what is high.

Check your items first. Type the name of the item you wish to buy or sell and see the average price.
Afterward, change the search bar to "Lowest price" and see if you can bid or buy outright what you want for cheaper than the average price.

Another way to get cheap items is to change the searchbar to "Time remaining"

I have personally found phenominal prices there, because people put the item up for sale, and forgot about it, either that, or wanted the most money in the shortest time.

Step 11.:
Know when to quit

If you are bidding on an item you may want, know when enough is enough. Set a max price you are willing to go to and if the item goes higher, move on to the next one. There are always more of the same item.

Step 12.:
Know when to push

As much as you may not want to go that extra few gold, in the end it might just be worth it.

Keep both of these steps in mind always.

Step 13.:
Always watch your bids

Don't let a last second 1g higher bid steal your cheap buy. Keep a good track of what you're bidding on, and what it's worth.

Step 14.:
Always have a mule handy

This may sound like a dirty trick, but always have a mule account ready with a bunch of gold, in case you have bids on your item and it's about to sell cheaper than you expected.

You can take the item from your mule later and try again, just always make sure it's YOUR mule you accept the bid for.

Step 15.:
Taking chances with high end merchandise

This is a tricky subject, a double-edged sword as it were. If you like taking chances try this.

Always get the items you know people are looking for. look at wishlists check quest forums and the such. Also, search by lowest price for said item. Try bidding first, but buy if the price is good.

Step 16.:
Act like it doesn't matter
aka. "The poker face tactic"

When push comes to shove, and you don't want to accept an agreement that you may think is a scam, or is otherwise not good for you, act like gold isn't at all interesting to you.

Today I got an offer for one of my guilds, and the guy just wouldn't send the gold, so I showed him my gold count and told him basically "Trade the gold, or leave me alone"

This caused him to drop his attempted scam and leave me alone.

Step 17
The Art of guild whoring

This is a new area of expertise for me. I've been a guild owner on gaia for several months, and bought it for full price from the GGN.

As soon as I became a guild captain though, I was allowed into the Captains guild where most guild owners tend to sell thier guilds. Here you can find cheap guilds and people willing to haggle.

Generally if you buy here or at the guilds forum you can sell the same guild for a higher price in the other area.
