In Krav Maga, cardio training is done via standard exercises such as jogging and jumping jacks, and also a form of shadow boxing known as retzev. This exercise is basically shadow boxing, extended. It is typically performed alone, as partner sparring in Krav can be very dangerous. In function, it is a set period of time spent in constant movement defending oneself against visualized (read, imagined!) opponents. Starting students are expected to be able to perform a three minute constant retzev, while more advanced students can go from ten to fifteen minutes straight!

a very good form of cardio is working with kettle bells. it also is good for a full body exercise.
ille normally be swinging 2 30lb kettle bells for both strength and cardio
but for a basic cardio workout 10lbs is well enough.

Interval swimming. This might not be applicable to most of you since you're fighters though. I also do a lot of drills (e.g. no hands, one hand, no kick, swimming sideways, ankle/wrist weights).

The thing with MMA is that ... since it is a young sport ... anything could work ... cardio, strength, conditioning ... there isn't a must workout for MMA ...

Well, I was thinking that the cardio would be immediately followed or preceded by actual training. If you're doing the cardio on its own, it's applicable to anyone with the physical capability of course. (I'm not a fighter, just a swimmer and competitive sailor)

(I'm not a fighter, just a swimmer and competitive sailor) Many good fighters do their shadowboxing in the water (though it looks stupid).Swimming is really good for you. I hate swimming, but I know how good training that is so I try to swim a lot. Its also good if you have some injury (happens frequently).

I sometimes go down to the local lake (not in the winter, obviously) and perform taijiquan forms underwater. Though it is a soft motion, the resistance of the water substantially increases the workout provided, as well as the challenge of maintaining a root on the silty bottom of the lake.
