Yes, I know the movie doesn't really classify as horror I don't think (but it is damn entertaining!), but has anyone read the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, that the movie is based off of? It is so nasty and explicit and the things that Patrick Bateman does to various hookers, losers, animals, and a small child are positively horrible, especially the basic way he describes it all without much feeling. I couldn't put the book down, though. It's not as funny as the movie was, but yeesh, words cannot describe how ******** up this piece of literature is...

Oh man, I need to come to this subforum more often.
Yes, American Psycho is, hands down, the greatest work of literature that there was, is, and ever will be; every single word has been so beautifully written by Mr. Ellis that they lift of the page and fly directly into my soul, thus making me a much wiser person.
Such a beautiful satire on the high-scale yuppie lifestyle and so many wonderful moments. My favorite part has got to be the scene when he makes Bethany read his poem out loud in the restaurant. That's gold, my friends--gold!

I haven't read the book yet (trying to finish another 2). but i had heard it was a great peice of literature. and from what you guys are saying, its a worthwhile read. Though I wouldnt classify the movie as a horror film either. I felt that Christian bale's acting as amazing. I hope that when i do get to reading the book that i am able to enjoy the story even more.

I feel the book is infinitely better than the movie (although I am rather partial to the movie). It's a perfect gruesome satire on the mindlessness of '80's culture. It depicts its shallowness astoundingly.

I love American Psycho so much. I lent my copy to someone though. :/ I'm about ready to kill the stupid ******** b***h; she's had it for close to six months.
I agree wholeheartedly with The_Wicked_Man.
Man, this thread is old.

I really love the book, but I must say that Ellis' newer books, Glamorama and Lunar Park, are serious masterpieces.
I think that American Psycho is a good place to start with Ellis, but don't stop there!
