ok so we know that most of rat vocal communication is at a frequency too high for us to hear right? well i think my boys may have lowered their voices because all of a sudden they have been making these very high pitched squeaks and its so high pitched it hurts my ears. it sounds like a very light yet painful and annoying ear ringing.
and yes i know its them because they inhale and exhale at the right moments for the sound to be them and the sound comes from their cage.
sometimes they do it after a rat squabble and sometimes they will just look at each other and start doing it like its a conversation and not be tense

Huh....that sounds really strange. mad Hopefully they're not squeaking from pain or stress!
I've only heard really high pitched constant squeaking from baby rats, where they'll whine for like 10 seconds straight. It's so sad sounding!

at first i thought it was from pain or stress but they sometimes do it when they are playing and doing normal rat stuff.
