To tell the truth-- and please don't eat me for saying this-- I was actually pretty disappointed. Johnny was alright, but it was nowhere near his best and I could hardly believe that Tim Burton directed it. It just didn't feel like a great Tim Burton movie to me.
What didn't you exactly like about it?
It just lacked. . .nonsense. Wonderland is supposed to be a place of utter weirdness, with all accepted behavior and societal norms tossed out the window. I didn't see enough of that. And there was a lot of predictability in the dialogue. . .I've probably heard similar lines in plenty of other adventure-type kids' movies. And I think Alice was poorly cast. Mia whats-her-face didn't have the right charm, the right flair, the right fierce curiosity that defines Alice.
Johnny's Hatter seemed like an Edward Scissorhands in a kabuki mask and given a shot of Jack Sparrow and James Barrie. It wasn't a bad performance, but it didn't knock me out of my seat like Sweeney Todd did.
There were some shining moments, though. And I understand it's a retelling.
