She could feel the morning air caressing her wings, pushing and vibrating gently across her thin leathery membranes. She pulled her wings in, tight and close to her body, and let herself fall towards the ground... watching the earth below rush up at her like a wave. Just before crashing into the mountain scene below she thrust her wings out and caught herself in the dive... spinning happily in the air before taking off again into the sky to do it again.
Down below a giant golden dragon watched her from the flat tops of the largest peck, and on his back sat the only man in the planet she would dare to call handsome... even beautiful. He was absolutely stunning, with his cold and yet passionate eyes and his short silver hair. He had saved them when they were still young dragons... after the humans slaughtered all the others... Now she was desperate to find another dragon, just one... and her brother was desperate for a mate.
She dived one final time, this time thrusting her wings out and slowly descending softly to land just behind her brother; who didn't follow her with his eyes and was carefully scanning the horizon. She followed his eyes as well... finding the sight he was locked on, a small trail of smoke leading up into the heavens.
"That's a large fire..." The man spoke with his usual cold and hard voice, nodding slightly to himself as her brother spoke up.
"Should we check it out?" Her brother could feel his agreement and knew she would follow. In one swift push from his large and powerful hind legs he threw himself up into the air, her right at his tail.
He was larger than her by a few hundred pounds, but he was also male and older; however his personality always shocked her... when he was seriously, which was very rarely, it scared her... and she could feel her worry clog in her throat as she followed him towards the blaze.

It was a short flight for them, and when the found the source of the fire below them they could see a large demon tearing apart the village which had got in a blaze. The demon was a large and horrific demon, it's form indescribable but alight in blaze. Whatever it was it had caused the fire, and had to be killed for the sake of the few remaining humans, who were firing arrows at it which simply burst into flame upon contact without even fazing the demon.
Of course the humans began to scream at the sight of the dragons and run from them.... She hated how humans were more afraid of her kind than the demons which truly haunted them, but she pushed this from her mind as she and her brother, with the man on his back, dove down to fight the demon.

It was an easy fight, and the demon quickly melted into nothing more than dirt and ash upon it's death... it had been nothing more than a puppet gone astray, a very common sight recently... but now something new entered the village, a young and beautiful woman...
She glared at them as if they were the beasts, and the villages were pushing her own telling her "That's them, those are the demons!"
Kaori, the female dragon, could do absolutely nothing to stop the apparently human girl... and with her and the other two already being drained from energy her inhuman like abilities were unbelievable.
She was faster, and stronger, and that blade she wielded was the most powerful thing they had ever faced.
In fact, it was a disgrace.... just how easily she took them down... it was obvious, painfully so, that she had been trained for this.
She watched the girl slaughter her brother, and then the other man... who had hurt her the most... and as she huddled in the fire, her wings torn from the fight with the demon, she was quickly knocked off as well... and she watched her world go black, and silent...

Every spring flowers blossom, and every winter they die never to rise again. This is simply the way of things, people are born and then die... and in the large scheme of things nothing lasts as long as they seem.

She felt her fingers move... a sensation that shocked her profoundly for reasons she couldn't understand... except for that she didn't remember the battle with the hunter ending... and she didn't remember returning to her human form at all... and yet here she was, with fingers that moved and toes that were numb and yet painfully there.
Then she opened her eyes, and stared up into the painfully wrong sky above her... it wasn't even fit to be a sky, stained in blood and dark... and the ground below her was hard and dry... like thick desert... and she was alone. She could smell nothing but dirt and mud and ash... and her own blood...
Slowly, she pushed herself up to sit... and gasped at the emptiness around her... there was... absolutely... nothing...

It was all black... Everything was quiet... Only the sound of a pulse keep beating through Kearo's ears. "Ahhhhhh......!" He gasped for breathe when the world came back to him. Kearo was looking up at the sky, which was outlined with black. He felt a huge pain coming from his chest, his arms where hurting, and he was barely hanging on to life. He pulled his hands up to his face to see the damage. There were huge cuts on his arms and his hands were stained with blood. The red blood was staining his blue shirt. He rolled over and slowly pushed himself up to his feet. He was very weak, he stumbled as he stood. He looks in front of him to see that there were two guys dressed in black, two big and sharp objects where sticking out of their bodies. One had an axe on his back, the other had a katana going through him. He heard footsteps coming towards him. It was a young boy, around 5, covered in dirt and he was calm around the bloody Kearo and two dead men. "It's okay... You're safe..." Kearo said to the kid. The kid pointed at Kearo's chest and Kearo looked down. There was blood dripping from his shoulder and blood spilling from his chest. He reaches and feels a wooden handle hanging from his chest. He ripped it out of his chest, causing immense pain, and saw it was a hatchet that tore a hole in his chest. "AHHHHH!!!!!" He screamed from the pain and stinging. He stumbled back and looked at the kid. "Good luck, I'll see you..." He said to the kid before the kid ran of screaming 'Mom!' The black outline in Kearo's vision shifted to white and Kearo fell back. He was looking up at the sky and everything became consumed by the white."

"Haaaaaa.....!" He gasped and opened his eyes. "What the hell?" He rubbed his chest to find no wound or tear, but he had to look down. He looked under his shirt and saw a scar over where the hatchet sunk into him. His arms where scared from the cuts that he received. "How did these heal? Where am I?" He looked around the area and it was very different from anything he's actually seen. He tried to push himself up, but he felt something sitting next to him. "What's this?" It was a cross lying next to him and it reached up to his chest. "Where did this come from?" He looked at it, with the letters "RIP: KN" engraved on it. "Just a cross? Nothing else?" He slung it over himself and made sure it was in place. "I get to carry cross, too. But, this one seems to be different." He just left it on his back and looked around the area. He started to feel something familiar coming up in his head. "Don't think about it... It's long gone..."

She heard the life stir even though it was well over 100 miles away at least, her dragons sense still burning well alive within her. She stood, without thinking, and pushed herself off the ground to dash quickly towards it. She knew her wings had been torn, and were more than likely no where towards mended and healed yet and she also knew that she had to find Raiden and Kin... that was the only way to get out of this mess and figure out what was going on, she had to find her older brother and his friend. She absolutely had to, and that stir of life just had to be one of them. It had to be.
She kept running, far faster than any human was capable and even faster than most demons; her body built for speed both on land and in the air and she ran cutting through the air with her slim and powerful human body.
She ignored her long red hair beating against her face with the wind, she ignored the pain in her body, she ignored the ache of her face, and she ignored... or was completely unaware of, her completely naked form dashing across the empty wasteland. After all, dragons didn't wear clothes, and she had gone from dragon form to human form without being aware of it.
She ran faster, the scent of another life form assaulting her senses... and yet... even though she knew it was Kinzoku or Raiden she kept running... she ignored it, her mind too fried and wired... she had to find life.
Then she saw him... standing just feet in front of her... she skid to a stop, and stood there, staring at him with her wide bright purple eyes and slightly shocked face... her long red hair covering her breasts, but the rest of her completely naked...

"There are others?"

She spoke softly, her voice singsong like and beautiful... absolutely entrancing... and absolutely not human...

Kearo looked around the area. There was nothing. It was very empty. "Is this purgatory? Not good or bad, but I'd like something to move around this place." He looked for any signs of life. No people, no plants, just a gloomy dark sky. "This definitely seems like death." He listens to a very soft breeze that made the area even more empty. Suddenly, out of the quiet, he heard something behind him. It was the sound of running and then he hears a voice come not soon after. It had a soft tone in it, but it didn't sound like anything he heard before. He turned around to see a girl staring at him, and he stared at her. He stared at her face and went down to the rest of her body, until he came up to her chest and saw that her hair was covering her breasts. "Oh! God! Sorry..." He held his hands in front of him to cover the girl's body but could see her face.

She watched him, her eyes wide with wonder... and her face blushed deeply when he reacted the way he did... and she realized she had been standing naked this entire time.
"Oh god! I forgot! I'm so sorry!" Within an instant her skin began to thicken into a thin layer of red scales.. covering her chest and her lower half from just below her belly button down to the bottom of her feet... blending perfectly with the remainder of her pale human flesh.
"There... I'm sorry about that... I was in such a daze I forgot about the whole... lack of clothes thing..."
She cleared her throat slightly and stood straight up as she ran a hand through her long and perfect red hair, before readdressing the man.
"What are you and who are you? And... what is this place... the last thing I remember... was a fight... and that b***h..."

Kearo moved his hand to see the changes on the girl's body. "Well... that makes it a bit more comfortable..." He took a deep breath and tried not to think about what just happened. The girls asked Kearo questions, questions that he was still asking himself. He looked back at his wrists after he tried answering the first question. "I'm dead. That is what I am, as far as I know. But really, I'm human, well, the spirit of a human, maybe. My name's Kearo." He looked back up at the sky. "I don't know what this place is. Honestly, I just got here after hitting the ground." He looked back at the girl who was remembering what happened to herself. He slowly started to see the memory. "Was this before you died? A fight... in a village... and... fire...?" He described what he saw.

She stood there, listening to him talk... pondering to herself... He didn't smell human... at least... not like all the other humans, he smelled too much of dirt and mud... of course... she smelled like that as well...
She listened to his description, and nodded slowly,
"Yep... that's what happened... guess I am dead as well then but..." she slowly leaned forward and flicked him in the forehead... the thud of her finger ringing clearly in her ears.
"You're completely solid, not a spirit... which means that all of our legends are true..." She spoke quietly almost to herself, still leaning forward towards him but with her hands on her hips.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 8:43 pm

"That was necessary." He rubbed his forehead. The girl had her hand on her lips, she was thinking about something. "Legends? Like what? Spirits are not intangible? You flick someone on the forehead to find out they are spirits?" He said with sarcasm. "This is not the afterlife I expected though. Ending up in the middle of nowhere with no signs of life, except for a... a... girl... whom I don't know..." He tried to figure out who and what the girl was. "But, then I find this cross sitting next to me." He pulls on the top of the cross to find a blade come out from the end. It was a big sword with the top of the cross being the handle for the sword. "Whoa...A sword... What does this say?" He read what was engraved on the blade. "Where did this come from? 'Kearo, you've done so much for us. Even after your problem, you deserve to rest.' Who put this?" He said as he read the cursive writing on the sword. Suddenly, his vision started tunneling and he gasped, he stood there frozen and still staring at his sword.

She huffed slightly and stood straight up once again.
"Hey! I'm not just a girl you know! In fact I was the most powerful dragon... of the two of us that were left... but now we are gone... you know what, fine..."
She grumbled slightly to herself, and watched him study his weapon with an odd intense interest...
"Um... hey...hey... 'boy'...are you okay?"
PostPosted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 9:08 pm

As Kearo's vision tunneled, he slowly started to see a field covered with head stones. "What is this now? Wasn't I just dead?" He looked around and a group of people gathered around a coffin. "A funeral..." He walked over to see who was being buried. He couldn't see as it was closed and being lowered into the hole "Guess I won't know..." he looked at the crowd and saw his mother watching the coffin. "Mom? Who is being buried?" He asked her, but she didn't respond. "Mom? Mom!" He came up to her and just passed right through her. "What the hell?" He turned around and looked back at grave. His mother walked up to the hole and laid something on top of the coffin. It was a cross, similar to his sword but smaller. On it was engraved 'RIP:KN'

As his mother place the cross on the coffin, she cried even more. "He always had those blades around... At least he can take one more with him..." She knelt next to the hole and put her hand on the descending coffin. "Goodbye... Kearo..." She whispered.

He suddenly snapped back after hearing the girl break through the other voices and sounds in his vision. He was looking at the sword and then at the girl. "Yeah... I'm okay..." He looked back at his sword. "So that is where you came from." He said to the sword before he put it back in the sheathe on his back.

She stared at him, quiet with wide eyes before a smile small pushed onto her lips.
"Heh... you're odd..."
She didn't mean it as an insult, she was simply stating a fact.
"So um... welcome back? Now that you're back... I need to find my brother."
It wasn't so much of a request as a... well, he has nothing better to do now... comment.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 9:46 pm

Kearo crossed his arms. "I just got back from... uh.... my funeral..." He didn't know how to state it. "You need to find your brother? You mind if I come along? I don't think we want to be walking alone through this place." He said as he turned his head.

She shrugged, already walking away from him... she had listened... sort of... partly... but had already started walking away before he was even able to answer the question completely.
"Yeah, I've got no problem with it, just no... spacing out on me. By the way, I'm Kaori."
PostPosted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 10:02 pm

"In a little hurry there." He quickly walked up next to her. "Kaori... That's a nice name..."
As he walked beside her, he felt the quiet take over again. "So... Your brother... what happened to him?"

She kept walking, a slow and steady pace... listening to everything, and tasting the air with all of her senses for any sign of another person...
"Same thing that happened to me... we were fighting off a demon when a hunter came in and killed the three of us instead... I'm assuming... unless one of them got away... I know Raiden was killed..."
She grew quiet... and solemn... her eyes darkening noticeably.
"I saw her carve clean into his throat..."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He screamed at her to run, to get away and spread her wings and fly... to be safe... that he would follow... but she didn't move, she simply backed up further and further into the flames until she had disappeared from sight... his world had gone black then, as the hunter dug her blade through his skull...
He felt a gentle... warm hand touch his cheek, and stirred slightly at the touch... he could clearly smell Kin's scent next to him... but he smelled... wrong... dirt like almost...
"Wake up." Kin's voice was dark and cold as always... and yet thick and rich like warm hot chocolate, a voice that both he and his sister fell in love with...
Of course he had no choice but to obey the voice, and he opened his eyes obeyingly... a single question on his soft lips.
"Kin... where's Kaori?"
Of course... Kin gave him no response... and simply sat there in silence next to him.
