Peirs Anthony has a quirky sense of humor. If you haven't read his books you need to start with the Xanth novels

Well, I liked the Incarnations of Immortality series well enough, but I tried reading some Xanth once and I just couldn't stand it, (for one thing, there were waaay to many puns in the one I was reading, at least)... sweatdrop

I read the Xanth novels, which were good. I tried to read the Mode series...but it was incredibly sexual. I just couldn't take it, seriously all people though about in that series was sex and how they wanted to have it with certain people.

No offense to anyone who likes that series, it's good except for the sex.

I love the Xanth series by Piers Anthony (although I have yet to read Current Events and Pet Peeve). I haven't read any of his other series though since they seemed to be a little more on the sci-fi side than fantasy.

Quite honestly, I've never even heard of that author. sweatdrop

I read one of his Xanth novels about 15 years ago. I believe it was titled, Stanley Steamer. I thought is was interesting and funny. I had always meant to read the whole series, but never got around to doing it.

A while ago I wrote to Piers Anthony's website asking him permission to write a fanfic baced on Bio of a Space Tyrant, and his people wrote back saying that a movie contract was potentially in the works for that title.

I have read 7 or 8 of the Xanth novels and have started to make puns (sad I know) but those books are so much fun, I have laughed out loud in class and have gotten looked at realy strangly.

Pretty cool, you corresponded with an author. Well, an author's people but that's close enough!

I started the Xanth series in 4th or 5th grade. That was... uh...1986? hee hee

I think the books really appeal to kids at a certain age when they are full on into jokes and puns. I think that's when that side of humor develops in a young person (if I remember right from developmental psychology).

I have trouble staying in long fantasy series now, but I would like to pick them up again.

My boyfriend is a HUGE fan of puns (argh) and yet he hasn't read them yet... hope he will give it a go sometime too.

But that was it for me. I didn't read any of his other books. I went from Xanth to Robert Asprin & his Myth series (which was all pre-college).

I have read all of the Piers Anthony Xanth, Mode, and Phaze (sp?) books, so far. I love his sense of humor, and the seemingly endless puns he (and his readers) comes up with. I also love the huge amout of species he sticks in his books; all of the different creatures delight me, as I am a huge fan of animals. The stories never seem to get old, and no matter the subject, er, matter, he still puts his style into it, and makes it a great story.

Piers Anthony is a wonderful writer, I started with his Xanth series and it took me for a loop. I was like WTF as it is NOT conventional to other Fantasy books. Yet it is.

IT WAS WONDERFUL! You must read.

And has anyone heard the rumors that they are makeing a Xanth movie? Any confirmations on this or any info. I heard it at a book store the other day. I am not one for rumors but this one caught my attention nicely!

I read several of his books while in middle school and rather liked them but I did begin to notice a bit of repetition in situation etc. They are enjoyable those. Has anyone read his one and only collaboration with Mercedes Lackey? If I Pay Thee Not In Gold I believe it is called. It is an interesting book that turns it around that women are the warriors and men are the slaves. Interesting, but not amazing. Apparently the pair hated working together.
