Hello all, I'm back with two more questions i'm stumped with, well, here ya go, hope you can help. Thanks! wink

1.) Bath Time Troubles - My wonderful mare Cookie goes through water, streams, rivers, deep-ish water, puddles, and would rather stand outside in the rain than go under cover. But...when it comes to bath time she becomes a scared little filly. She constantly moves around side to side. She is bipolar at bath time, she'll stand still then move, stand still, then move. Even when the water isn't on her and i'm...lets say, filling up the bucket with water and soap, she shuffles to the side. I just don't get it, I don't know what is wrong or how to make her bath time enjoyable since I'm guessing she doesn't like it. Tips and tricks?

2.) Ear Clipping Evasion - Again, a problem with Miss Cookie. I can clip everything on her except her ears which i can normally just touch easily. She raises her head and tenses up when anything comes near them, and i'm tried slow, desenseitizing methods. Nothing. I know eventually i'm going to have to clip them, even just a bit for shows. Little clipers, big clippers, she does not like them. How should I approach this?

Thanks everyone! smile

Could you use scissors for her ears? I know a lot of horses that ear clipping just never quite clicks with, and short of twitching or sedation, there's not really anything you can do about it. A friend of mine was able to do most horses because he was quick about it and tall enough that it didn't matter if they raised their heads.
But anyway, unless you're planning to hollow out the ears for shows (I don't know what your personal preference or the style in your area is) then you can neaten them up with scissors just fine.

As for the bath thing, what is your wash rack like? Does she act like that any time she's in the wash rack, or only when you're about to give her a bath? Is she okay with the hose outside of the wash rack?

I've tried scissors, they don't seem to help, I'm not going for a hollowed out look so just a neat trim so there isn't hair flying out of her ears. wink

The wash rack is outside and open so she does have room to move about, its two poles, we can't really put anything up for it its also a parking space for cars. Our other horse stands just fine. Its always when she's in the rack, its only used for bathing. We've bathed her in hand before and she still moves about, we desensitize her to the hose and she's prettyyok when its just at her feet, but sometimes she'll still move over.
