I myself spank for extreme behavior. I do belive that a large amount of spanking can lead a child to run with their temper so I only use it for the worst of things. I started when Sasha showed she could understand it which was about 11 months.
She would Get into a cabnet she shouldn't have and I would give her hand one could whack. She would cry for a moment but she'd never go back to that cabnet. Now once she gets older and understand more verbal commands we'll do timeouts but for now she doesn't understand nor does she have the attention span for them.
