Okay, so how many of you feel a certain sadness when you finally have to retire one of your cosplays?

I ask this because just today, I realized that I had to retire my Kuronue (character from Yu Yu Hakusho Poltergeist Report: The Movie) cosplay... and I am heartbroken about it. Why do I HAVE to retire him? he doesn't fit me anymore >.< This upsets me most because I had some great plans for improvement when I was going to wear it next (Sakura-Con 2010). I am really hoping that the retirement is going to be temporary and I can get new things together to make his outfit again. However I know that this won't happen in time for Sakura Con... so for now, he will remain retired.

It's strange though, because I have retired cosplays in the past, such as my Trowa Barton (from Gundam Wing) and Seguchi Touma (from Gravitation) and it's never effected me as much. I think my main reason for anguish, is because Kuronue was the first cosplay I ever really MADE myself. I mean sure I got some materials from the thrift store, but I made the vest, the hat, hell, even the pendant he wears around his neck, and it actually all came out looking good. I haven't really been able to do another cosplay as well as it, unless all of said cosplay, or a good portion of it, has been done for me. So having to give up Kuronue for a bit, it really bites.

Anyway, tell me people, am I alone in these feelings? Or is there perhaps another cosplayer out there who has been forced to retire a beloved cosplay?

Hmm. Well, I think when a costume doesn't fit, you always have the option to make a new one. Buuuttttttt... So many people just use new costumes every year they don't really care too much, since they only bring out older ones when they're in a pinch.

Personally.. I think I might cry if i have to retire my Umbreon XD As it is, I need to repair it, but that I don't mind so much lol

I think my GF is little sad.. this year will be the first time in a long time she's not cosplaying Aerith Gainsborough. But we agreed that it's time to move on to new stuff smile And even though it will be soooo overdone, we're looking forward to doing FFXIII cosplays next year and fully retiring the FFVII cosplays.

Yeah, retiring costumes is pretty sad... I've only had to retire one, and that was because it had really fallen apart to the point it wasn't worth fixing up... it was just time to put it in the back of the closet and move onto new costumes... was a good costume though, it had gotten through multiple days of like 4 or 5 cons over two years or someting.

I'm one of those new costume every event kinda people, and sometimes I'll go to more than one event a year, but I still hate retiring them, cause I've put so much work into making each costume that I wish I could keep them all on display all the time. Even though each costume only gets used like once by me, I'll often tailor and sell them so they get a little more use, sometimes that's harder than retiring them. sweatdrop
