Gon' be brief to keep away the tl;drs. This story is firmly on the back-burner now (I enjoyed working on it, but I don't want to touch it again until basically I'm done with R&N's first draft), but I'll definitely still take into account any critiques or questions or whatever else you wanna throw at me. I was going for an over-the-top pulp novel feel, but there's a difference between that and writing suck, so, you know, keep me updated.

Mostly though I haven't talked about my NaNo characters too much and it's backing up on me so I figured I'd babble about them here User Image

Elliot Lewis, male, late twenties/early thirties.

Works for DA GUVMENT, attaching mechanical limbs and other cyborg prosthetics. Kind of a cranky, paranoid guy, although he's really very shy and just takes a while to warm up to people.

He's pretty frail and crippled: his lungs don't work well, both of his legs act up, he can't speak or eat very easily, and in general his life is pain. Walks with a cane, uses a machine to breathe (and sometimes to talk), and gets most of his nutrition from vitamins. He went through several years of medical school before dropping out for various reasons, though, and does try to take care of himself.
He says his injuries are from a bad accident at work and doesn't share many details beyond that.

As a side note, Elliot and Kamwell's daughter are super BFFs -- she was the one who picked out his pink glasses.

Ophelia Kamwell, male, late thirties/early forties.

One of my only characters with an interesting birth story: he was born a twin, supposed to be named Nicholas, but his identification card was switched up with his sister, who was to be named Ophelia. It was an easy fix but before they got around to it, his sister died of birth complications. His parents being very superstitious left him the name Ophelia so death wouldn't come looking for him again. Trufax.
He's not ashamed of his name, but does go by "Kamwell."

Aside from that he served a term in the military, had a short career as a boxer, and now works as Elliot's live-in bodyguard/caretaker/chauffeur/man-maid/etc. He has a girlfriend, who is unnamed (although if The Sims is any indication, her name is Yinda), and a daughter, whose name is Amy until I find one less "I AM AN ADORABLE LITTLE GIRL." He loves his family, takes care of them, and spends time with them, but isn't quite ready to settle down and get married yet. Plans on it soon, though.

Mary Parker, female, mid-twenties.

In the first part of the story she's an ex-police officer, but later on I decided that was unnecessarily complicated so now she's still a police officer. She lost her right arm to a frag grenade explosion in a riot several years back, and has it replaced with a mechanical one. Since she lost her arm on the job, the Cortown Police Department paid for and ordered the mechanical replacement, and Elliot was the one who put it on.

She's pretty no-nonsense and fills her life with work. So far, uh, not really developed enough to be super-interesting. Very competitive -- she and Kamwell, who is vain about being athletic, go at it a few times.

Sir Andrew, male, mid-late thirties.

The secondary villain, of sorts, who works for Cordelia. He's actually a Level Three cyborg, which means he has a crapton of internal mechanical alterations or prosthetics. Legally, he's not human, although he was born human, is human, and would consider himself human if he cared enough to debate the issue.

He used to work for an unnamed organization (naming companies and organizations isn't my strong point okay gonk ) that operated like a sort of Knights of the Round Table deal, but it was broken up by the Inquisitors after the war with the Serians ended. As a member of the organization he gave up his identity, but unlike most of the other members-at-large he didn't reclaim it afterward.

Sir Andrew's been through kind of a lot (and relatedly has gained a reputation for being unkillable -- he's been drowned, shot, electrocuted, and stabbed, but hasn't died) but to be honest he's a huge softie and a dork. He doesn't deal with people well and finds most social situations awkward, but does look for the best in everyone. *sparkles and rainbows*

SO YEAH

I omitted Cordelia because she's not really developed enough to merit much of anything (she's hugely pregnant and represents the Kace family's organization, but that's about it), and I'm ignoring Gunilla and Xavier because I'm lazy.
