Right now, I'm in the middle of making a new EGA-styled dress. It's very simple and based on a pattern I found for an A-line dress. It's modified now, however, so that there are triangular, white and black inserts at the bottom between the dress panels. I've had to make adjustments from when I started it to now, as well [My cup size jumped from a small B to an almost-full C in the time from when I started to now] and so it's altered quite a bit from the starting point. The problem that I'm having though is with the lining.
I cut it to fit the dress before I made the modifications, and now it won't line up properly for hemming. It's smooth on the insides and lays fine with the inserts, bust-increasement and everywhere else, but bits and pieces hang down below the outer layer when I try it on. I'm not sure where it's getting the extra give in those places, either, as they were all fitted together just fine prior to having the inserts pinned in [I haven't sewn them yet, they're just temporarily pinned between the lining and top layer.
I'll have photos when I get back to my dorm to work on it, again, but I thought that I would check out any hints anyone can give me!
Also, I'm working on a pleated skirt that has to have some flare to it. I've not found a decent pattern for it, yet, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where to find one. I'd hate to have to deconstruct a perfectly good skirt just to find out how it works to make a new one. .:sigh:. Thanks, much!

LOL! Thank you! And it's not that I can't read the patterns, but I must have made a change in seam allowences? Or something? I'm not sure. The right side's lining just hangs down a good two inches lower than the left. I think it was. I'll have to check when I'm back with it again and can take photos. Anyway. The side that's shorter lines up fine with the outside, but the other half hangs too low.
Meh. I guess I'll start by repinning it..
Anyone have any clues about the pleated patterns or [new addition!] puff-sleeved tops? All I can find are box pleat patterns and "instructions" on draping to make a flared skirt. But no patterns that are appropriate. It's for a cosplay idea-- Haine from Shinshi Doumei Cross. If I can't find a pattern, I'll have to go with her winter uniform with the box-pleat skirt and plain old jacket.

I just had to make my petticoat tighter, so I think I know what you mean with the one side hanging lower. Did you have to sew an angle like /___ on the sides? If you have room, and it won't make it tighter, sew the angle at more straight up and down. I hope I'm getting the idea of your problem at least, since I'm a little confused. ^^; Are you looking for somthing like this for pleats? http://www.thimble.ca/?p=168For the flare on the skirt, its not how the material itself would normally fall. I'd say to expand whatever pattern you're using for the skirt, and make a small petticoat to fluff it. And for the sleeves, I suppose make a normal jacket with longer than normal shoulders, and use shoulder pads to make those stick out more. Sorry if I didn't help at all. ^^; Btw, where are you going to be cosplaying? A convention, or which one?

I'll see how that works out if the repinning doesn't work, because it does have quite a bit of flare now that it has the inserts in place. It was an A-line tube dress to begin with, but now.. well. Now it's Huuuuuge! I'm sort of curious as to how it might look with petticoats or hoops. Woo!
That skirt looks pretty much like the one I'd make for the winter uniform, but longer. Ah well. I have a skirt that would be perfect with a peticoat! ... but it is black. Sadly, I like it black. So I'm not going to redye it or anything. I know that there'll have to be a sort of "arc" to the cut of the original fabric, sort of like a circle-skirt. I also know it has to be three times [at least] the final flare and waist measurements.
Maybe I can just figure out those distances and then arrange a suitable curve? We'll see. If all else fails, I'll get a math-minded friend to sort out the number parts for the costume.
And I'm hoping to have the cosplay done for ACEN this spring. I promised a friend that I would try and go with her to it, as I've never been to that particular con, and would like to go dressed up-- if that plan fails, I have many other garments to wear. I just think Haine's cute. ^_^;

Yay! Photos of the progress of the project, so far. There are some things I need to fix in the dress, though, sadly. One-- the pattern was designed for someone with a much lower waist than I have. Thus, it fits rather.. oddly. Two, the lining is still a bit off in places, but now that I've repinned the left side of it, it's much better. And three-- the top needs to have work done to it. I messed up the zipper installation [irreparable] for one mess, and for two-- the top doesn't cover properly, anymore. I grew too much and it slides down due to a lack of ribbing. Bah.
Anyway. Photos!
This is the front of the dress with the insets spread open. This is the side/front panelling on the right side. Here's where the back insets go, they're not yet.. cut out. Haha. And there's the whole thing!

I am all for cute ideas. I was thinking of making a bow when I add the extra fabric, or maybe a choker? I'm also trying to figure out if I have enough fabric left to make a shrug-style jacket to wear with it. For now, though, I'm stuck where I am-- my friend hasn't come over in a while, and I need her help to get the hem pinned up before I can sew it all together t the bottom. Rawr.

We have no dress code requirements what-so-ever. We can be barefoot, bare bellied or whatever we so please-- so long as we don't got topless, and put shoes on when the professor requests it, or when eating in a dining hall or the student union building.

the white is your printed material. this will help you out with your boobie coverage problem. the litte lines represent darts, i figure they would be ideal to hep it stay up and catch that boob shape. the white thing down the back is an insert that has robbon x's on it for the corset look. if you do the white one you can do that down the back or on one of the sides. depends where your zipper is. if your zipper is on the back the corset like inserts can be put on both sides for a spiffy look as well. the 1st drawing is the front the second is the back. the pink is a diffrent route you sould take. on the front you just add on thick straps with the printed material and you take it all they way to the back. x ribbon over then will give the corset look. you can either make the litte back inserts stop mid back or a** length or you can make both of them meet around your but in a triangle shape. you can make all the ribbon meet up in a 4 strand bow ( thats spiffy) if you take the pink one i would remove the white corset insert because... that would just be too clutterd and busy looking. enjoy! tell me what you think

The zipper, when I'm wearing it, is on my back, left side. Hrmm. I think I might do the quasi-decolletcrew whatever it's called on the front. The sheer, frilly stuff brought up to disguise the bust. Straps might be a good idea, as well, though.. it's iffy. I could always sew a corset of the material I have left to go over the dress? Instead of the jacket?
I'll play with the mockup materials I have and see... yay grommet guns and ugly, pink broadcloth!

if you make a shrug that ties in front that would always help with keeping the top up. but that may clash with the style of the dress. a waist clincher sounds real cool.
how much did you get your groment gun for?
