I've been trying to figure out the different alphabets they use in XIII, and I'm not having much luck. The hints I've been looking at so far?

1. The stores. When you first click on them, they have this little animation, right? With the store name. It's legible if you already know what it says, but they're not really the Roman alphabet, just close. Problem is, not all of them look like they're the same alphabet, either. A few of them look like completely different languages, so I'm wondering if they made up a bunch of different ones, all for the game.

2. This. (Screenshot from Chapter 12! No major spoilers except a new proper noun mentioned, but might not want to look anyway.) So anyway, what's written here is being narrated, but in this case, it's clearly not a straight cipher. There aren't enough letters. The first word looks like it could be Cocoon, but I can't make much sense of the rest. I'm wondering if it might be like it is in Tales of Eternia, where they kind of fudge things in Melnics, probably because they don't expect anyone to actually try and figure it out for time and space constraints. I don't really think Squenix would do that, but... don't know what else it could be.

3. The little sentence or so on the back of the strategy guide... the collector's edition, anyway. I've seen no other mentions of the writing in the guide, unfortunately, and I've no idea what that text says...

4. In-game signs and stuff. Those look the same as the back-of-the-guide text, but not the screenshot text.

So, um... basically I have no idea how this works so far, but I'm determined to figure it out. I haven't found anything else online about it, which I'm surprised about, but maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. Anyone have any clues that I'm missing? Particularly really obvious ones I'm going to hate myself for mssing?

If you have the Collector's Edition Guide, there is a little extra something in it. It's a translated alphabet, both Cocoon's and Pulse's. Pulse does not use certain letters, though.

...Damn.

I was afraid of that. They keeps saying the "Extras" sections is full of spoilers, so I've been avoiding it. Is it weird that I hoped it wasn't in there so I could figure it all out myself? sweatdrop

SO, UM, ANYWAY, PRETTY NEAT THAT THEY'VE GOT TWO ALPHABETS, RIGHT?

Edit: Only, no, wait... There are definitely letters on that screenshot I took that aren't in the guide. That's the Gran Pulsian alphabet, but not all of the characters on on the list. Maybe... they're the "missing" letters that for some reason the guide doesn't have? Or maybe I'm being dumb again?

I've only looked at the extras part to see on how to best develop my party, the alphabet, and weapon upgrades (though that confuses me a bit sweatdrop )
Once I get closer to the end of the game, I'll look at the spoilers lol

Yeah, I'm going to go through the whole thing after I beat the game. Supposedly you can keep playing after the final boss, so that seems to be the best time to go after all the extras. I'm paranoid about finding stuff I don't want, so I've been avoiding it entirely for now.

I've been diving into my guide, and so far, there are no spoilers. xD Like, unless you count things like 'this ability is avaliable now' and 'this weapon has x power and if found here' spoilers, you should be good. Maybe if you read the guide from back-to-front before playing, and with no real knowledge of the game, there might be spoilers, but if you use it as you play it's fine.

The alphabets are at the back of all the guides, not just the collector's (or at least, it's at the back of my not-collector's guide). There isn't, in my opinion, anything spoilery back there anyways.
