Well, I thought it would be cool if we could talk about the book of Job. I just started reading it in my scripture studies and I just can't put my scriptures down now; I was bad and was reading it in class even though we're still in Genesis in our lessons. It's a really fascinating book and a beautiful example of the ancient genre of wisdom poetry.

Well, the imagery is just beautiful, when Job and the Lord are pontificating upon various things like the creation and all of the animals, and all of the musings on life and everything. It's all very philosophical and incredibly sophisticated; I don't understand how anyone could think the Hebrews had a primitive literary tradition after reading the stuff in Job.

Yes, that's very true. I've never thought that they had primitive literary traditions.
So what is your favorite part of the book of Job?

I'm not sure yet, I haven't read through the whole thing; but I can definitely say that some of my favorite parts are the second part of chapter 23 ("When he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold") and the first part of chapter 38 (where the Lord is talking about the creation process). But really, the entire thing is beautiful.

I know. My favorite thing about Job is his strength and how firm his foundation is and that he is always turns to the Lord, even though things are really rough for him and he had so many trials. He is a real good example for everybody to look to.
