I finally got around to starting my virtual reality story, which has been stalking my brain for ages now. The only time I really get around to writing it though is during work when I'm working 8+ hours and have my lunch break so it's not much time but that doesnt' mean I plan on giving up on it.
Basic storyline is, you all remember .hack right? Well, in this it's about the same, people are playing a new virtual reality game called Twisted Reality. There are the administrators, as diverse as can be, and the players, the first 100 who are more "trial players" chosen at random. The beginning skips over the whole character creation process, at the request of my good friend as that is considered boring. It's not really important know-how but in case you're curious, the main-ish character was allowed a complete character creation, meaning they submitted their character design and is unique, I guess, compared to the rest of the players. The story starts a few weeks after the game has made its rounds to the 100 players, and in a place called Forêt de la Mort, which in french means the forest of death, following a druid.

"Dammit! Why did I have to get lost in this kind of place?" Daikuda grumbled, her frustration making the air around her body crackle dangerously with power. "This is what I get for not purchasing an Area Map when I had the chance."
A low-level skeleton stumbled out from the bushes, brandishing its rusty sword and lunging with a bestial warcry. The druid lunged to the side, automatically raising her Starter Staff to block. The creature tumbled back, a surprised cry escaping this time.
Daikuda jumped on the chance and raised herself onto her knees, slamming the butt of the staff into the ground. "Quaking Thunder!"
The ground split a path from the imbedded staff to the frozen skeleton, trembling like an earthquake as it sought to devour the undead whole. Daikuda gasped and unleashed another attack, this one not as powerful but didn't require her staff. "Water Shot!" The burst of water that literally shot from her hands was just enough to damage the enemy and knock it off its balance, sending it squealing through her homemade fissure. She waited a second before removing her staff, watching with wide eyes as it closed in moments.
All of the sudden a warm glow engulfed her body, leaving a tingling warmth in its wake. She tapped a point near her temple and her vision narrowed, then expanded, showing a young hybrid cloaked in a green glow overtop a feathery light-blue robe. Above her silvery curls shown the words Level Up in script.
"Oh! That monster gave me enough experience for two levels! s**t, this forest is too high for me; why couldn't I get lost somewhere with harmless little bunnies? Hm?"
A large transparent box appeared on the player's monitor that listed many skills and spells. Learned spells were gray, spells now available were white, and spells too high a level still to learn were red. Kitty Simmons scanned the box, touching the two white spells to read their description. It was a choice between Acid Pool and Curing Mist; attack versus healing. Being that she was a druid and tended to be more vulnerable towards attacks Kitty clicked on Curing Mist.
This time her staff took on that eerie green glow and at the top of the monitor scrolled, "You have learned Curing Mist!"
A smile crossing her features caused the same reaction on her character's face, one of tranquil happiness. Kitty still couldn't believe, even after nearly a week of playing Twisted Reality, how completely different she and her other identity were. "But that's the point of having an in-game persona, isn't it?" She whispered, her mic turned low for privacy.
She sighed heavily before tapping the temple button again, once more preparing to immerse herself in the game. When her vision cleared Daikuda found herself staring down at an odd, luminescent pink flower that had unfurled itself, glittering in the suddenly darkly forested area. She nearly jumped in surprise at the change and barely managed to contain herself, then squeaked when a bulky arm grabbed her around the middle and hauled her backwards.
A hoarse voice whispered in her ear, "son ici;" she had no idea what he said to her.
She opened her mouth to answer, or maybe question the mysterious person who had the nerve to grab her, but an unnatural, non-magical tremour of the earth stopped her.
