Today was a typical warm and rainy spring day. Cords of raindrops hung from the eaves of houses and animals huddled under trees or headed into burrows to try to say dry. Earthworms emerged from the earth and slaked their thirst. Birds engorged themselves on them. Ducks and fish alike were frolicking at the lake.

Amongst all this activity, Umibozu was looking at her reflection in the lake - she thought the ripples the raindrops in it made it look so cool - and every now and then, she'd bat at a fish that came close to her. "I love this!" she finally said...

Umibozu looked up at the male gryphon nikku and thought he looked rather peeved. "Are you okay?" she asked.

Umibozu didn't know why he had to be so short with her. She couldn't figure out why anyone wouldn't enjoying themselves in this kind of weather, so that's why she asked. She thought it was better to ask a supposedly stupid question than to clam up like some dolt.

She tried to be polite, nevertheless, in her response. "Oh, I see. Sorry about that. If you want to get drier, you could go under a better tree, some business's overhang, or inside. I could walk with you to any of those places. I could even carry a big old leaf over your head."
