To the one that I serve

Most people I have met practice a religious form of witchcraft. Even "traditional witchcraft" seems to have religious and nonreligious components. It seems that many have a supreme witch mother and witch father. Do you believe all witches essentially worship the same deities? Why or why not?

Well I view it this way, if you call yourself a witch, chances are you are like me and not a Wiccan. Most witches I know have a male and female deity that specifically choose them and are usually not worshipping a just the Lord and the Lady. Which I wouldn't view your choosen deities as a supreme father and mother just your father and mother.

SFG brings up a good point. Most ENP witches appear to be soft polys. That rather throws things out a bit.

I dunno really. My practice seems pretty far out of kilter with my religion. But then again there's something religious in the way I observe the seasonal changes. When I work magic I petition to something...not my deity but something else.

Clearly I need to do some discovery work but at the moment I've got no idea where to start.

You do have a point. Though I was thinking that it might be possible that these deities are mistaken as other deities because of similarities.

Well it seems that most authors have a simialer God and Goddess that to me makes me think that they all worship the same deity just in different forms.,

Although it is so hard to trust some authors, you know? I think some just care about the money and not the knowledge that they are supposed to be sharing.

Pretty much. If they ever cross it's once in a blue moon. I'm much more confident in my craft than in my religion. I just don't have the resources to further my religious education at the moment.

What about those who are Christian witches? Surely they do not worship this 'supreme witch mother and witch father'

The thing about witchcraft is that it is a practice. You do not need a specific god or goddess to practice it.

Let's take an example of a simple spell: Cord magic. Nine knots in a piece of (usually) black cord. Each knot is supposed to hold the powers of the witch and the will of the witch.

Meet Maria, a nice Christian school-girl that practices witchcraft. Also meet Sabrina, a nice girl that doesn't worship anyone but practices witchcraft.

Now, both Maria and Sabrina want a date for the prom (yay prom) so they do a simple cord spell to "pull" in the date of their dreams. So, Maria invokes the power of YHVH the almighty and begins construction on her pink Cord.

Sabrina does the same except that she invokes within her personal power and triggers this into the cord as the chants her spell. She may even put a bit of saliva or blood on each knot to power it.

Voila, both get their dates.

Yes I realise that witchcraft doesn't necessarily involve deities. I was pointing out that not every witch worships a certain god and goddess.

I agree. That said there are some differences in them.

I was talking specifically about traditions of witchcraft that revolve around the worship of a God and Goddess. Typical religious modern witchcraft.
