A black dot on the horizon would soon bloom into the shape of a black Charizard as Ryugi and Eclipse made their way to the small town from Mount Silver. It wasn't hard to spot Oak's lab. It was absolutely sprawling with all the pokemon wandering around, including what appeared to be a whole herd of Tauros... After a few circular flybys of the town, Ryugi decided to set Eclipse down near what appeared to be an abandoned lot of sorts.

Alright Eclipse, you've done great. Time to take a rest.

Ryugi returned the Charizard to his pokeball and then turned and began to walk up to the door of Professor Oak's pokemon lab. He took a deep breath, and gave it a few solid knocks.

It would be a few moments before Ryugi would hear any hint that his knock had been heard, but hear it he would. "Muk! Please! There's someone at the door, will you please stop smothering me?!" There was a shuffling sound, as if another person were prying the Pokemon off, and a sign was audible before the door swung open, revealing a slightly disheveled looking Professor Oak, who, despite having been glomped by a Muk only moments before, looked happy to see Ryugi.
"Ryugi! Now this is a surprise! Come in, come in, I'm sure I can rustle you up a cup of tea, or lemonade, or water, or . . . well, you get the idea." He stepped out of the way of the door, heading back into the lab expecting Ryugi to be following close behind.
The lab was the same as always, overflowing with Pokemon and books, papers, Poke Balls of all sorts, even what looked like a Time Capsule partially disassembled. In the midst of the Poke-Paraphenalia, Oak was straightening his collar and hunting around in the cupboards for a teapot - it was obvious where his granddaughter, Daisy, had developed her taste for the drink. "What brings you here, young Dragon master?"

Nice to see you too, Professor.

Ryugi followed the older man into his lab and looked around at the myriad of things strewn about. It seemed that the Professor was as busy as ever in his daily routines. He was busy admiring it all when the professor asked him what was up for the reason with his visit.

Actually, Professor, I've come about a very specific dragon, one that I hope you might be able to help me with...

Ryugi spent the next few minutes recounting his travels so far, as well as his dream, and his fight with Red in detail. He also showed the professor the pokeball he'd received as proof. After that, he finished with telling about the shrine, and how he was still lacking the orb he'd seen in his dream.

So you see, Professor, since you were close, I figured I would drop by, say hello, and see if you can help me, or at the very least give me some direction.

Oak listened intently to Ryugi's story, offering little input as he prepared the teapot - there was a silence after Ryugi finished his story, a silence filled only by the sound of tea filling a mug and the Professor adding his milk and two sugars. It was as Oak began to swirl the tea around that he began to answer. "Ryugi, you must understand me when I say that I wish you had never had that dream. I wish you had never visited Mt. Silver or that shrine, because it means I have to tell you something - something terrible."
He turned, placing his mug onto the kitchen counter and facing the gym leader with a very severe expression on his face. "Two months ago, two Master Balls were stolen from Silph Co.'s HQ in Saffron City. You won't have heard about it, since Silph Co. likes to keep these things quiet, and the only people it affected were researchers like myself. Earlier this month, the Weather Institute based in the Hoenn region reported several discrepancies in local climate - weather in certain areas, which had little to no relation to one another, was acting very oddly; where it had been sunny, hail suddenly started to hail. Rain became snow . . . it was very strange. And it wasn't until my contemporary, Professor Birch, sent me a very special artifact that I realized why."
He reached into his lab pocket, and produced a lustrous jade orb, identical in every way to the one in Ryugi's dream. "This Orb - I shouldn't have it. It should be resting at Sky Pillar in Hoenn right now. But it isn't, nor is its compatriots, the Red and Blue Orb. The three Orbs should be with their masters, Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza. They aren't any more - the first two were stolen, by persons unknown, and the third removed before it too could be taken. Professor Birch sent me this Orb for safekeeping." He reached into his pocket, producing a Poke Ball, and released it, the red energy producing a Dragonite, the seven foot tall Pokemon having to bend in order to avoid hitting its head against the ceiling. Professor Oak stroked the dragon's side, seeming lost in thought once more before continuing.
"This Dragonite . . . we've been together since I was twelve. He's seen me through thick and thin, and I him. When I sent him to retrieve the Orb for me, I knew he would be able to protect it. When he came back, he was very close to fainting, but he had the Orb." The Dragonite looked at Ryugi somewhat mournfully. "Ryugi, whoever stole those Master Balls, whoever took the Red and Blue Orbs, they tried to take down my Dragonite and steal the Jade Orb. Someone is attempting to collect the Hoenn legendaries, and I don't know why. These Orbs . . . they allow the owner to form a link with the legend. Mental, physical, I don't know, but the legends say that you need these Orbs to master Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza." He looked at Ryugi as if trying to see through him. "Ryugi, Rayquaza sent you that dream. It wants to be found. It may even want to be caught. It would most definitely want me to give you this Orb. But before I can, I need to know you can keep it safe. It's said that Groudon and Kyogre - they formed the land and seas. The very continents upon which we stand. If someone has them, and their Orb - with the link it provides, I don't want to imagine what one could do to the legend - they could reap untold destruction, upon the entire world. If Rayquaza, their master, falls into their hands, almost nothing could stop them.
So can I trust you to keep this safe, with your life if necessary?"
PostPosted: Sat Apr 17, 2010 3:04 pm

Ryugi listened and listened well. So the disturbances in Hoenn had something to do with this after all. Ryugi knew he wasn't strong enough to defeat Red, but he was certainly strong enough to battle and defeat most trainers and their pokemon on a daily basis with his team of powerful dragon types. Was he powerful enough to defeat two legendary pokemon? Probably not. But with Rayquaza's help, if that was indeed what he had been send the dream for, he was sure he could manage to keep it all safe.

That sounds like bad news Professor. Very bad news indeed. However, I've seen my share of stuff, and Kyogre and Groudon have been released and sealed away before. Now, I'm no Red, Professor, I've seen that boy's power first hand, but I assure you that I will defend that orb and Rayquaza with my life if necessary, and I'm certain my pokemon would all feel the same way.

Oak smiled gratefully at Ryugi, and offered the dragon tamer the Jade Orb, the polished sphere seeming to become strangely lighter as he did so; the Orb seemed to be reacting to Ryugi's presence. "Then I have no problem with entrusting you with it." He held up the hand not holding the Orb, his index finger pointing up. "But on one condition - when you find Rayquaza, try and drop by the lab. I'd love to see it for real." That was Oak - academic to the last. "If ever you feel you need help, don't hesitate to call me, or my grandson; he was Champion too, once. Just don't mention Red to him - he can get a bit touchy on the subject."

Ryugi took the orb, and as he did, he felt it fill him with a faint warmth similar to the feeling he'd had in his dream. For the time being, he slipped it into his bag before continuing.

Will do, Professor. But, if you'd like, you're free to come along with me to Mount Silver. I'm sure Eclipse can fit more than one.

Ryugi grinned. He doubted the professor would take him up on the offer, but nonetheless it was there for the taking.

Oak seemed to have a knowing look on his face as Ryugi accepted the Orb - given how it had reacted before, he was willing to bet his Dragonite the dragon tamer had felt something. With the man's offer, however, Oak was actually struck with indecision. It wouldn't take too long, after all, and it wasn't like he had anything pressing to do at the moment . . ."Why not. Why not? It's not everyday I'm able to witness the bonding of a trainer and a legendary Pokemon!" He finished off his tea, leaving the mug in the sink for later washing-up, and called through to the next room. "Tracey? Tracey!" Moments later, a rather tall man wearing a headband and clutching a sketchbook emerged in the doorway. "I'm going to Mt. Silver for a while with Ryugi here - I need you to look after the lab while I'm gone." Tracey nodded, looking at the two curiously, before his attention was grabbed by a Scyther gently using its razor-sharp scythe to tap him on the shoulder. As the artist turned to leave, Oak looked at Ryugi with a gleam in his eye. The gym leader would have a hard time getting rid of the Professor now that he'd made his offer.

Ryugi certainly wouldn't mind having the professor follow him around for a while. After all, the man was practically a celebrity in these parts. Not to mention it wasn't every day that you had access to the world's only walking, talking PokeDex. Ryugi grinned.

Glad to hear it, Professor! Now, let's head out. I don't want to keep Rayquaza waiting now that I have the orb, and the sooner we finish with this the better.

Ryugi would then head out of the lab, presumably with Professor Oak in tow, and would release Eclipse outside the Lab.

Alright Eclipse, change of plans. We'll be bringing Professor Oak with us to Mount Silver. So make sure you take it easy.

Ryugi chuckled as Eclipse grunted and flapped his black wings. He then hopped aboard and helped the Professor up as well.

Alright then, we're off! Let's go Eclipse, we've no time to waste.

And with that, the pair were off to the meeting with Rayquaza atop Mount Silver.

Oak certainly wasn't going to argue with Ryugi's reasoning, and despite his fifty years of age, he managed to keep pace with Ryugi quite easily - even though May, his co-host on Pokemon Talk (she was recovering from a nasty encounter with a Toxicroak at the moment - she'd banged into Bruno's whilst trying to get an interview with Lance) complained as to his speed. He chuckled as Ryugi told Eclipse to take the flight easy - it was strange how people seemed to assume that scientists and professors were made of glass; they needed to be quite hardy in order to carry out their research. "No need to put on the training wheels, Ryugi - I owned a Charizard myself once upon a time." With the dragon tamer's help, Oak made himself comfortable on Eclipse's back, holding on tight as the Charizard took off in the direction of Mt. SIlver . . .

Time passed and soon, Ryugi, Professor Oak, and "Ray" arrived in Pallet Town. Ryugi hopped off Kajiru and patted the Garchomp's head before returning him to his pokeball. He then moved to address Professor Oak and Ray.

Well, professor, if you hear anything else, make sure to call me immediately. For the time being, I think its best if I get back to my gym as soon as possible. If any trouble happens in Johto, I want to be there to head it off.

Ryugi then hopped onto Eclipse, and helped Ray up as well.

I'll see you later, Professor.

And with that, Ryugi would head back home to Blackthorn City with all kinds of tales to tell.

Oak jumped off of Eclipse with a surprising sprightliness - his having witnessed such a monumental event in human-Pokemon relationships seemed to have filled him with energy. "You'll be on speed-dial, Ryugi my boy. Make sure to remember you can call on me or my grandson if you need either of our assistance." He stepped back as the dragon tamer helped Ray up, and gave the two one last smile. "You two take care now - you especially, Ray." He waved the two of them off as they headed back into Johto, and headed back into his lab.
After all, life went on, no matter who you had on the back of your Charizard.

Amari hesitated then raised her hand to knock, then paused again.

There were so many thoughts going through her head at once. Would he listen to her? Would he accept her? Could he possibly help?

Well this was the acclaimed Professor Oak after all.

She glanced down at her partner Ditto anxiously. "Keep your fingers crossed."

"Ditts?" it looked up at her curiously.

Now was the time....she would have to be brave.

She just had to ask if Professor Oak could teach her a few things about being a pokemon researcher.

She rapped her fist lightly on the door.User Image

Tracy was the one to open the door this time, the artist looking at Amari oddly. "Hi. Uhm . . . you're here for the Professor, aren't you?" A slightly odd question, given Oak's renown, but Amarti wouldn't have time to think on it for long. "Professor! You've got a visitor!" There was a shout from the depths of the lab, sounding vaguely like 'bring them in!', and Tracy opened up the door, allowing the girl and her Ditto inside.
