Thread in the GD which makes me want to reach through the screen and beat this guy to a bloody pulp. No, I am not exagerrating and no, I don't think that I'm overreacting.
I have seen way too many instances of women just sitting back and laughing,
laughing at sexual harassment. It's 2010, a century ago, women got the right to vote (99 years ago for me, being Canadian). I can't believe that we've made this little progress. At least when women were considered property, if you played the game right, you could expect to "win" at the end: a decent husband, a good house, financial stability, social respect. What do you get now? The accepted attitude that it's alright for men sexually harass you and if you get angry about it, you must be fat and/or ugly and therefore "jealous" of the "compliments" that attractive women get. Compliments? Since when is having some random man say lewd things about your body a compliment? Since when is that
not harassment?
I'm so sick of women and men telling me that I should "calm down". That it's just a joke, lighten up, don't take it so seriously. Wow, I must be so "uncool" or naive or friendless because I see these remarks for what they are: another disgusting way to beat women down and stop them from ever having the gall to think of themselves as equal to men. Why? Why is this still going on? Why don't people see this for what it is? Why are people so ******** content to sit there and encourage this when they
know it's wrong, they're just too cowardly to stand up and say something about it.
People talk about Afghanistan being a shitty place for women. From where I'm standing, the only upside about being a woman in North America is that you won't get killed for talking to a strange man.
