Now, one difference between English and Irish (especially when writing) is the fada. Not sure what a fada is? It's the line put above vowels in certain situations when writing a word eg. á, é, í, ó, ú. Sometimes the only difference between two Irish words is that one has a fada on a letter and the other word doesn't, eg. cead (permission) and céad (first). And seeing as we here are learning Irish through a medium where typing is inevitable, I thought this would be useful. But enough waffle, here's the secret;
1. Hold down Alt Gr. 2. Press the vowel that you want to put a fada on. (And no, you won't be able to put a fada on a consonant.)
Sorry, I know it isn't as amzaing as I lead you to believe, but it is handy and I hope it helps ^^

@_Lil_Immortal_Angel_: No problem, it's really handy but not many people seem to know about it. ^_^
@rockyrogue: No clue, sorry. I've never even seen a MAC, which is quite sad, I know.

umm, what is alt gr. ?
you can also do alt plus a number code on the number pad: make sure 'num lock' is ON, hold down the alt key and type 160 for á, 130 for é, 161 for í, 162 for ó, and 163 for ú. and there are others as well ^_^

It's a key that is right beside the space bar, on the right hand side smile

Anti-Sugarplum Fairy It's a key that is right beside the space bar, on the right hand side smile umm, ok. but on any computer i look at it never says gr, it only says alt, lol. and i don't think that it works to just hold it down and type a vowel and get a vowel with a fada on it sad all that does for me is it makes file, edit, veiw, and such tabs it makes them extend out as if i had clicked on them

It's called Alt Gear, but the key has Alt Gr written on it. Ctrl and Alt together work too. That's weird, I thought all computer keyboards had that key. I've never seen one without it.

on my keyboard I have to type out the codes. the code on mine always starts
Alt+0 and then whatever numbers it is for the rest of the code for that particular accented letter.
pain in the arse, really.
