:3 Gasp! My first topic!

Okay, so I see a lot of Bleach/Naruto/Kenshin/Deathnote online. I was wondering what kind of lesser known anime or manga people watch/read.

Shows like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, or Hidamari Sketch, or Gokusen, or School Rumble...

What do you watch/read that a newly christened anime fan doesn't?

(I'm replying straight away because the squished space where there's no replies is intimidating. eek )

There's a music anime I quite like, Nodame Cantabile, which is silly and brilliant. I'm not sure whether I like it better as an anime or a live action, because they're both just so awesome.

Also, this is more mainstream, but Azumanga Daioh is completely pointless and brilliant. If you've never seen it, DO. I've watched it too many times to count and I'm not sick of it yet.

Lastly, I reccomend Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge, which is sort of like Ouran High School Host Club, only Haruhi is a scary blood/gore obsessed kid, and the others are charged with making her into a lady.

YAY, someone that knows their manga!!!!
I love all the ones you just listed xd .
Yotsuba&! is also a good (same mangaka as Azumanga Daioh).
1/2 Prince, Bakuman, Yakitate!! Japan, Nadeshiko Club are just a few manga that are less well known but really good.

Things I watch that few others do/have heard of:
Rama 1/2
One Piece (until they started making those references in the Naruto Abridged series)
Descendants of Darkness

@ wanderer: I've glanced at Yotsuba&!, but the idea of a green haired Chiyo was too weird for me to watch it. ^^;; I guess I could give it a try. My brother watched Yakitate!! Japan and he said it gave him a strong desire to make croissants. I think I've heard of Nadeshiko Club, but I'm not sure. I'll go look at those other ones I don't know.

@ Resara: ^^;; I've read a bit of Ranma 1/2, but the drawing style annoyed me too much to keep reading it. Oops. I quit One Piece for more or less the same reason, but my brother swears by that last series. He's even up to date on the zillion episodes they have out. owo Never heard of Descendants of Darkness.

OH! If you like psychological anime, GO READ "Othello"!! You can read it on mangafox, and it's really awesome. It's a little repetitive in the beginning, but you need that to get a feel for the characters. It's a split personality thingy. It's VERY good.

I've only read two books of Ranma 1/2. it's on my mangafox to-do list

Descendants of Darkness is awesome, but the jerk who creates it is on hiatus at the worst possible cliffhanger.

One Piece cool I've been watching the tv series, but I don't watch subs, so I had to stop about 186 or something. English Dubs only for me.

Othello? Sounds interesting. *adds it to the list*

Oh! And I would like to add more: Scryed, Angelic Layer, and Yu Yu Hakashu

>w< Hahahahah! Yu Yu Hakusho. I used to read that. I found it interesting, until he got his body back.

Angelic Layer!! Ah, I should finish that one of these days. ^w^ I like the drawing style and characters. I'd forgotten all about that one...

Oh, wait, that's right. I have Descendants of Darkness on my computer somewhere...o_o;; Whoops.

^^;; And I think I've heard of Scryed, but haven't actually seen/read it.

So my new anime that I'm watching is K-On! (well, season two of it). Also, if you'd like something a bit more realistic, "Tokyo Magnitude 8.0" is completely... crying "AAH!!" and brilliant. It's an earthquake/apocalypse anime and it's really well researched and impressive.

I wouldn't consider Vampire Hunter D to be obscure since there is a healthy fan base in Japan, North America and in Europe, but within the Anime/Manga/Comics forum in Gaia, it is buried beneath Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and whatever series has easy access.

I'm hoping there are a few Gaians here who can enter a discussion with me about the series-- and not just the movies, but the books and manga as well. 3nodding

edit:
Yes! "Tokyo Magnitude 8.0" was brilliant. The ending threw me off a little bit, but the beginning and middle of the series was extremely well done-- well worth it to watch, and if you're so inclined, to buy as well.

TT^TT I liked the smiley one!

^^;; I still don't like Vampire Hunter D. Eh.

K-On! is like a musical version of Azumanga. I think you'd like it.

The triangle smile. : >

That's okay; I'm not fond of VVB. We all have our preferences.

I think I may have seen a snippet of K-ON, but I'm not sure. It had something to do with Detroit Metal City.
