more and more i see stupid scene kids just playing acoustic pop and claiming it's folk and/or indie. its rather annoying. thats like saying anything on an electric guitar is automatically rock.
i may have already said this in another thread.

Plus, there are lots of great folk musicians that use electricity.
I don't understand why acoustic would be directly associated with indie, though. I feel like popular indie bands like synths too much.

Agreed. I play acoustic versions of everything, but I still consider them to be the genre of which they were written.

Screamo was a genre in the 90's BEFORE people renamed "emo" to screamo. What people call screamo is neither emo nor screamo. Real screamo is now called SKRAMZ as stupid as that is. And for real emo look up Cap'n Jazz.

Real screamo is now called SKRAMZ as stupid as that is. And for real emo look up Cap'n Jazz. This. Though I hate the expression "skramz" and I refuse to use it. But yeah, the term "screamo" predates scenesters. Like emo, it's a bastardized term and it's often misused. However, I assure you with full confidence that it is a legitimate genre. If you want to listen to some early screamo, check out Antioch Arrow and Heroin. And Cap'n Jazz rules.
