The female was still not yet fully accustomed to her new body. Walking on all fours seemed more natural as time went on, but the idea was still rather alien to her. Animals walked on all fours, not humans...but she was no longer human. Somehow, she got reincarnated as some kind of four-legged beast. Not only that, but she gained a pair of wings!

Certainly, they weren't large enough for her to use them for flight, but they created a rather angelic look for her. She wasn't an angel by any means, but it wasn't as if she was a she-devil either. Just a plain, average woman who lived her life day-to-day and fell in love with a man.

Her story was no different from any other. Surely there were others like her who loved their significant other deeply as well?

She merely sat there in the sunlit pastures with a few flowers surrounding as she contemplated deeply about most everything; most especially about her fiancé whose life-status she was unsure of. Was he dead or alive? How could she even find out? Maybe some kind of sign will shine upon her, showing her the way...

He couldn't feel the sun on his back, but he knew it was shining. Snow fell from his coat and melted as it hit the air. Romeo heaved a sigh as he trod along, eyes watching the ground rather than where he was going.

It occurred to him that he would never see her again, and his heart sank again. Every day went like this, a cycle of waking up alone, wallowing in despair, getting over it and going someplace, and then thinking of her again. There was just nothing he could do.

Finally looking up from the ground, Romeo startled as a brightly colored Kage caught his eyes. Her miniature wings fluttered. He looked bemusedly at his own, flexing them out to their full wingspan. He hadn't really thought about them.

Slinking behind a tree, he waited there, not sure if he wanted to meet her. Deciding better of it he stepped backwards and straight onto a large branch, not only cracking it but losing his balance and falling ungracefully to the forest floor.

Wonderful.

She wondered, were there others like her out there? Creatures with spiky spines, a horn protruding from the tops of their heads who walked on all fours with little wings like hers? The wings seemed a little inconvenient considering they were only decorative. Perhaps they used to be bird-like creatures who devolved into what they were now. Creatures of the skies who lost their ability of flight, but maintained their tiny wings to decorate their otherwise plain bodies?

Perhaps they were used in mating rituals. Males would carry themselves proudly, possibly with larger wings, flapping them in some kind of elaborative dance in front of females in hopes of attracting a mate. This idea amused her. How funny would it be to see such creatures dance in front of her own eyes?

Her thoughts ended abruptly when the sound of a cracking branch caught her attention. Not only was there a tree branch snapping, but also the sound of a "thud" kind of noise. Was it a predator? Did they even have predators?

Turning her head to face the general direction where the noise came from, her cyan-colored eyes stared intensely at the spot where she thought the creature was. Her body was still and rose to a standing pose. The pink tail of hers stretched straight out as if to increase her size.

"Who's there?!" She demanded.

Romeo's tail tucked between his legs as he heard her voice. He hadn't even meant to find her, all he wanted to do was slink away...

Well, it wasn't an option now. Tucking his wings tight to his back he padded quietly out from where he had been standing, keeping himself in the shade at the edge of the clearing. He watched her a moment, the way she stood so defensively. He didn't mean her harm, he didn't. Oh well, typical day. After this he'd probably go think of sometime in the distant past and wallow away in his despair.

"Nothing to see," he muttered quietly, tail still tucked beneath him, "I'll just be on my way and you won't have to see me again." He hoped she'd leave it at that, this really wasn't his thing. Meeting people, that was. Some people reminded him of things he could barely remember, and he didn't like that. It was haunting.

Something about this other creature seemed out of place. His stomach was sunken in as if he were suffering from anorexia. Something else about him just seemed...unnatural. Maybe it was the color of his fur? It seemed a little...lackluster? Not only that, but the way he approached her, too. She understood he tucked his tail between his legs as to show signs of submissiveness, but what normal male would go this far?

Contemplating on what would be the right thing to do, she took a deep breath in before asking, "Are you alright? You look like a neglected dog with the way your stomach is sinking in. I don't know much about this place...but perhaps we could help one another out? It's not good to starve yourself..."

She couldn't say no to a stranger in need of help, even if he didn't explicitly ask her for it. It wasn't in her nature to do so.

Romeo blinked at her, surprised. He hadn't even thought of his current condition, the gnawing hunger in the pit of his stomach. It started to wedge its way into his thoughts, and found himself nodding slowly to the female. "I hadn't noticed..." he said quietly. His tail reluctantly relaxed as she offered help- he didn't remember the last time someone had done that instead of screaming and running in the other direction. "What do you need help with...? You seem fine to me, y'know."

She seemed perfectly fine, actually, now that he got a good look at her. It suddenly occurred to him how shabby he must look after all this time just wandering. It felt as if all those moments of having stumbled upon something not keen on his presence were wiped out of his head. A memory similar to this tried to fight its way in, but he pushed it away. Not now. Not when he had a chance for someone's kindness.

"Well, you're new then, in this area," he started quietly. He took a few steps closer and sat himself on a old stump, moving slowly as to not create alarm. "Or are you new here... completely?" His eyes looked at hers. "If you know what I mean. Do... do you get them? The bits and pieces of things you thought you knew?"

He felt like he was rambling, he wasn't used to talking at all. Even his own voice sounded a little strange to him. His tail curled tightly around his legs, like a blanket. "Or maybe it's just me... which could be true." His ears drooped a little at the thought. Perhaps he had said too much, now.. he didn't want to scare her away.

Amelia didn't have perfect recollection of her past human-life, but she did carry some of those memories with her. Those memorable, of course, were the days she spent with her boyfriend/fiancé. The two of them engulfed in one another's love, spending each day happily. She remembered she was human, too. All the other memories didn't ring as strongly as she'd hoped, but she didn't feel discouraged by that.

Shrugging those thoughts off, she turned her attention back to the anorexic Neverlin, "Huh? Oh...I think I'm completely new here, yes. You're the first of our kind I've seen." A small smile formed upon her maw, as she hoped to better understand him...and maybe even be friends with him.

"Hmm?" She nudged with her words, hoping he'd speak up a little more. Due to the way he presented himself, he was surely not a bold, out-going type by any means. But if he spoke so quietly she was going to have trouble hearing him, even if her ears can hear more acutely than her human ears did.

"You're going to have to speak a little louder. It's a little hard to hear you when you speak so quietly, sorry." She tried to make him feel a little more comfortable by flashing an even more genuine smile than her last.

Our kind. Not 'you filthy beast'. Romeo felt his tensions ebbing away. He pushed out his fleeting scraps of memory as he felt them threaten him again. His intense feeling of depression threatened to drown him, and he did everything he could to get away from it.

"Well, better me then one not so friendly," he replied, raising his voice just a little bit, "I find myself running a lot sometimes. There's a few big nasty ones around here, they look like something from nightmares." He shuddered a little as the snow perpetually falling off of him grew a little bit colder.

"B...but," he stuttered a little and had to take a quick breath to catch himself. "What I mean, at least. When I find myself not doing anything, pieces of memories come back. Feelings, emotions. Sometimes I feel like I'm drowning in them, sometimes I can force them out. I... I'm not sure what it is." He frowned a little, but looked up to spot her smile and relaxed a little.

"It's hard to explain." he added, heaving a quiet breath, "I think."

His voice was still rather quiet for her tastes, but he was getting better, she thought. At least this time around she could hear him. Though if anything else made a noise, surely his voice would be overpowered. It was just that quiet to her.

She didn't expect this place to be sunshine and unicorns where every creature got along together always like some kid's story. But thanks to his warning, she had a slightly better idea of some of the creatures that roamed here. She didn't want to pry any further on this topic, as it only seemed to bring about unpleasant memories.

"Hmm, well, I do remember bits and pieces...They're usually pleasant things, though. Then again, I guess I lived a pretty normal life..." Her tone was relatively neutral. She didn't want to give off a superior air about her, or make it seem she lived a better life than he did.

"Anyway...putting that aside, are you alright? You seem cold...Wait, that was kind of stupid of me to ask. Of course you'd be cold what with your condition like that! Here, why don't we at least warm you up a little in the sunlight? We can look for something to eat in the mean time..." The thought hadn't quite yet occurred to her what their species ate.

He heaved a sigh of relief. "At least it's not just me, then. I was worried maybe I was crazy or something." His wings relaxed finally, tired from clenching them so tight to his body. The feathers, probably the neatest thing about him, gleamed even in the shade.

"Cold...? I guess." he hadn't thought about that. Standing, he gingerly made his way from the shade of the trees into the sunny portion in the middle of the clearing. The chill went away, but the infinite snow remained happily on his shoulders. He wondered if perhaps it could someday go away.

"Something... to eat?" he repeated. His head tilted as he thought of something suitable. He certainly didn't want to kill anything for food, at the least. Eyes scanning the treetops, he looked for something that was edible...

Laughing lightly, she assured him it wasn't just him, "No, it's not just you. I definitely remember some things." She, too, relaxed her shoulders once he started. In comparison, though, she wasn't nearly as tensed up as he was, nor was she tensed up for that long, it would appear. Yeesh, he would probably kill for a massage on his poor shoulders.

The cheery femme made her way after him, following him back into the warm light. Briefly, she glanced over to see the white bits of snow remain on him. How peculiar, she thought to herself. Perhaps it was just the pattern of his fur giving off the illusion of snow. Either way, she figured there was a better time and place to bring such trivial matters up.

"Did you have something in mind that you wanted to eat? Perhaps I can go fetch it for you...Or whatever comes to mind first? I'll do my best to get something for you, but I'm not familiar with the terrain and what our usual feeding habits are..." She shrugged lightly, feeling a little helpless. The feeling of helplessness wasn't something which pleased her; especially in a dire situation such as this.
