Sister Sidonia needed some fresh air. She needed to get out of the convent - not only for herself, but for Desdemona as well. Most importantly, she just needed time to breathe and be by herself. What better way to do that then by going on an outing? Outings were always fun to go on, the nun noted. In fact, she was going to make it a point to go on them more often. The trip to visit Teddy had proven to be a productive one. Not only did she ensure that he would keep his mouth shut, but she also got him to tag along on her little adventures. That would be good, especially if she ever needed someone to pin the blame on. People would be much more apt to believe a nun over an arrogant teenage boy. Yet Sidonia digressed. This outing was of a whole other sort: it was a trip to the local grocery store.

As nuns, all of the women within the convent were given specific chores. Some had to clean the bathrooms, others had to cook the meals, and some had to wash the floors and clean the windows. The Sister, however, had none of these sorts of jobs. She volunteered to go out and do the errands for the other sisters: be it getting groceries or picking up anything else her fellow nuns might need. It wasn't a big job, sure, but it was enough for her. Most of all, it provided her with just what she needed; a chance to get away from the walls of the Church and just go out on her own. Desdemona, too, was thankful for this, Sidonia was sure. The poor little demon. She couldn't step foot into the Church like the other demons could follow along their contractors. She had to loom outside in the darkness and wait for the nun when she came out for the day. Then, and only then could she be near to the tainted holy woman, but those were the times she looked forward to the most, so the wait didn't bother her much.

"Come along, Des," the young woman said to her hellion companion, "and keep out of sight. The last thing we need is someone seeing you out in the open." The tiny imp said nothing right away in response. Instead, she merely flashed the bulbs on her antennae once. With a low, snake-like hiss of a response, Desdemona then melded into Sidonia's shadow. This sort of action allowed for easy travel for the demon. Besides, no one would notice her there. The nun would be able to walk to the grocery store in peace without being conspicuous.

Daily Goods Grocery Store was the complete opposite of Alchemically Unbalanced. Sidonia knew that for a fact. Where the Alchemist's shop was dark with a slight eerie aura to it, the simple store near the edge of downtown was brightly lit while emitting a warm, welcoming feeling to all those who came by. Her demon wouldn't be too keen on this, but hey - at least she was getting out. Desdemona had no room to complain at this point, and besides. The two of them would go back to the Alchemist's shop soon enough. The depth-imp seemed to be drawn to that place. Regardless, the visit to Daily Goods was a nice change of pace. Sister Sidonia enjoyed the overall feel of the shop, and was eager to find the items on the list for her other sisters.

She didn't, however, have any intention of getting her goods in a hurry. She was eager to enjoy her time outside of the Church walls, not to go back, so she'd be milking her time in the grocery store for all it was worth.

Yamato hurriedly carried crates of fresh apples, oranges and bananas into the store. New shipments always came in when the store was typically the least busy, but it kept Yamato busy during those time of monotony. After he unloaded the crates, put their contents in their proper places and double-checking the price tags to make sure that they were absolutely correct; Yamato sat down at his place behind the cash register and pulled out his book (an old science fiction novel he had found in a book store's half-price box) and began to read.

Of course, that was the perfect cue for a sister to come in through the front door. Yamato put the book down after bending the page corner he was on.

"Welcome to Daily Goods!"

The store's one and seemingly only staff member was quite chipper. Perhaps a bit much so, though the nun kept this thought to herself. In order to keep up appearances, she flashed the young man a kind smile as she entered the small building. Behind her, Desdemona skittered in and took cover under within the shadows before the door closed in on her. This was nice! Finally - a place where the two of them could go together; not where the tiny imp had to wait outside the stone walls of the church.

"Thank you," Sister Sidonia replied, her voice warm. Before responding again, the holy woman then raised her hand with the small slip of paper in it. It was her list of groceries she needed. "Could you, perhaps, tell me where I could find these items?" More out of habit than anything else, she then glanced over at her demonic companion, who was glowing in her hiding place. The nun's eyes hardened momentarily in warning. That creature -- she better not blow her cover here in the grocery store. There would be hell to pay if she did.

Yamato smiled again at the sister and hoped privately that she wouldn't try to convert him to her religion. He looked at the list politely.

"Everything you need would be in the produce section," he responded. "If you want, I can load up your cart for you..."

It was just as well, it wasn't as if Yamato had anything else to do at the moment. Something seemed to move out of the corner of his eye on the floor, but when he tried to follow it it vanished. Yamato blinked a little.

Well, hopefully it isn't a cat, he thought.

"That would be lovely," the nun said to the grocer with a relieved look, "thank you very much."

Yamato didn't have anything to worry about. If there was one thing Sidonia was there for, it certainly wasn't to convert him. She wasn't the type to push her beliefs like that. At least, not in a setting like this one. Let the other sisters preach openly while out and about town. She'd keep her thoughts to herself, thank you. However, if someone wanted to learn more about the Church and Its teachings, then she'd be happy to oblige them. For now, however, she'd just remain quiet. There were other matters that were more important at that time, anyway. Mainly keeping an eye on Desdemona, or two, if she could spare them.

A brief flash of red followed the second the teenager turned his eyes away. Heehee; silly humans! Such weird, backwards creatures. If only she were a little bigger, or if only the Sister would let her out in the open enough to show herself to the boy. She'd show him that she wasn't a cat. She wasn't a cat at all. The little imp was something much more sinister than your everyday feline. As a matter of fact...now that the demon thought about it, she ate a cat for dinner the evening prior. Hairy creatures, they were. Way too much fur.

Yamato's eyes narrowed slightly as the shadow seemed to flit out of sight again. How strange, he thought to himself but it ultimately ignored it. As long as it wasn't going to cause trouble, Yamato didn't particularly care. Yamato shifted his grip on the grocery basket.

"What were you looking for, Sister?" Yamato asked.

The nun didn't answer right away. Her attention was off of him when he addressed her, and had been turned to the demon who was too busy playing with the mind of the young boy to keep herself quiet and out of side. That cursed demon! She would have to reprimand her later (if one could scold a demon, that is). A frown of displeasure flashed on the woman's face before she jolted back to address Yamato directly.

"Not much," she admitted with a sheepish laugh. "Just what's on the list: bread, eggs, flour, sugar. Things like that. Staples for a simple life."

The demon noticed the young human boy's grip tighten on the basket. Oooooh, that was interesting! He had noticed her; good! That's exactly what she wanted. With a hiss of laughter, the depth imp then melded into the shadows. From her position in the corner, she then moved to that of Yamato's own shadow, hiding behind him and glowing while the nun gazed down at her with a glowering eye. Clearly, the sister was not happy with her desire to make her prescience known to the store clerk. Oh, well. She wasn't contracted to make Sidonia happy. She was contracted to get Sidonia what she wanted. That was all. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Yamato looked at the list to confirm: It was pretty simple. Too simple, really. The sister hadn't seemed to be weak in any way, she could easily carry the basket her self. Then again, it would have been rude to assume anything and Yamato focused back on his job. The groceries.

He felt reassured that the shadow did not seem to return and started to pick out the best of their produce for her. The church wasn't close to here, in fact, it was on the other side of town. Surely there were other places she could have gone to instead of walking across town? Yamato was proud of his store but he knew there was other competition out there.

It made him nervous for some reason.

"Places like this are the best parts of La'To, you know," Sister Sidonia told Yamato absent-mindedly. As she said this, she made her way over to the cash register of the store, her simple money pouch in hand. The Church was never one to distribute lavish bags with designer names to the sisters. Such things were a luxury none of them needed. "Small, simple, quaint; much better than those chain stores in the bigger cities." She paused when she said this, thinking about her own memories of growing up in a small town before continuing on.

"You get to know people on a more personal level, which I find lovely." A nod followed, mossy green eyes flicking toward Desdemona. The demon seemed to have learned her lesson. She had grown bored when Yamato went about carrying the basket and picking up groceries. Gah. He was no fun anymore, so she was going elsewhere! Quickly, she melded back into the shadows, this time blending in with Sidonia's own silhouette.

"It makes the trip to the grocery store much more worth it."

"I'm glad you think so," Yamato smiled as he started to check out the sister's groceries. He counted out the correct change for the sister and handed it to her.

"Please come again," he said. "Someone will always be here to help you."

Still, his eyes focused on the sister's shadow, as if he expected something...

Yamato was kind, ever-so kind. After the boy checked out her groceries, the sister extended out to take the change. Money in hand, she then slipped it all back into her small pouch and gave the boy a nod. He had went out of his way to help her, what with gathering her groceries for her and all. It was very kind of him, and since he could have said no to her, she respected him more for helping her.

"Thank you, sir," she said to him as she took hold of her grocery bags. "I'll be sure to stop by again."

All that was left to do was leave and make her way back to the church now. With her groceries in hand, the nun gave the young grocer a polite nod of her head before making her way to the door. As she walked out, if Yamato looked close enough, he could see two red, glowing orbs within Sidonia's shadow. They flashed for a moment before fading away. This was Desdemona's final farewell to Yamato for the day. After all this time she and her contractor had spent in the store, he had not seen her once.

Either the boy wasn't looking hard enough, or he saw her and chose to ignore it. In any case, he was clearly naive, but no matter. He was still fun to toy with, and the demon would take note to visit again later on. Perhaps, the imp thought, when she was bigger.

Yeah...now that would be a trip.
